There's certainly no shortage of ways to get your
YouTube fix on the go, but it looks like those options just got a whole lot bigger, as the company today launched a newly expanded mobile website that provides access to "most" of YouTube's catalog on any capable mobile device. That's quite the improvement over the version of the site that
launched last year, which was also open to any device but only provided a select few hand-picked videos. What's more, the new site will also let users log into the site and personalize things a bit and, just as importantly, users will also now be able to upload videos straight to the site from their mobile device of choice. Of course, while the service itself may be free (and even without ads, for now), all that data floating about most definitely is not, and YouTube kindly provides a hard-to-miss warning about that before you're even allowed to enter the site. If that doesn't deter you, however, you can hit up m.youtube.com and watch your productivity hit the floor.

You don't need this. Get FULL YouTube on your Windows Mobile Smartphone or PPC Phone or PocketPC via WiFi.

Another great program for windows mobile/ iphone/ symbian is vtap... basically it will get you youtube + other video sites + audio only streams. Works pretty fast over wifi and edge, in my experience... vtap.com is the website, check it out...

Now that I have emTube... this is not so hot.
Superevil @ Jan 24th 2008 12:53PM
Does anyone really NEED youtube on their cellphone?
Phishisgr8 @ Jan 24th 2008 1:11PM
Holy Moly. I just did a search which revealed 0 results on the old m.youtube two weeks ago. Now? 9,564 results. That's more like it. It's worth a bookmark now!

Still won't play videos on my Blackberry Pearl.
Jason @ Jan 24th 2008 2:18PM
I have a BlackBerry Pearl 8130 and all of the videos play fine. If you have an 8100, it could be that the software version you're running doesn't support the video format.

I've already been using ytpocket for a while... at least I can now use mobile comments, but you can only make a new comment, you can't reply to other people's comments... :(
Mister Blue @ Jan 24th 2008 1:52PM
I have a Blackberry Pearl and I can not view the videos. Does anyone know of a plug-in, software or a work around to enable this?
rento @ Jan 24th 2008 1:30PM
I have an N95 and I use emTube. It's free and can stream or download all You Tube clips through its lovely GUI. I gave up trying m.youtube. The only other alternative is Tiny Tube (web based) but it is slow.
Jason Talley @ Jan 24th 2008 1:38PM
I can't play the videos on my Treo 700WX, but regular youtube works fine
tamoghno @ Jan 24th 2008 1:46PM
i am doing this for months on N95 with emTube, its no news for S60 apps , though it might help SE fanbois.
emtube on S60 FTW.

Now if only they'd get their shit together and fix up the iPhone YouTube app so we can link that to our actual YouTube account and hence share our favorites between the iPhone and a desktop computer. That's how it should be, not this separate bookmark business on the iPhone. Somebody fell asleep while implementing the YouTube iPhone app, I think.

How the heck can something be new AND improved?
iDevin @ Jan 24th 2008 2:15PM
Finally! Now I can actually get some decent videos on my Helio Fin without subscribing to Helio's ridiculous premium tv-clips service.
Richard @ Jan 24th 2008 2:23PM
Yeah! I just went on it. Searched for a fave video: "Weapon of Choice". It found 4 or 5 sampled. I clicked the first one and got: ...file type not supported.
What phone am I using?

Sam Zebian @ Jan 24th 2008 2:43PM
I've got a Tilt and it works... maybe you should install adobe flash mobile and/or try ytpocket
Richard @ Jan 25th 2008 1:23AM
Thanks Sam.
I have loaded the Adobe player, soft reset, and get the same message. Realplayer opens and that message pops up. Perhaps the thing to do is to whack realplayer...or to try it in PIE instead of Opera.
Jon Shipman @ Jan 25th 2008 3:26PM
Look for and download HTCStreamingMedia.CAB
Sam Zebian @ Jan 24th 2008 2:43PM
yea, but you don't even have a touchscreen or a good input method, so it takes a lot longer to get things done on the mobile web. Using a phone with no touchscreen or joystick type of input method is like trying to control your pc with only a keyboard (which I and many others can do very well, but sometimes a mouse is nice)
decypher44 @ Jan 24th 2008 3:11PM
Works great with my Centro!!!
nojok3 @ Jan 24th 2008 3:44PM
Finally we have functionality!
Jeremy @ Jan 24th 2008 3:53PM
I keep getting "unknown errors" from Windows Media Player. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!
Adam B @ Jan 26th 2008 11:00PM
Me too. For all videos.
JerryA @ Jan 24th 2008 4:27PM
Nice. I had been doing this via launching in TCPMP but this looks simpler.
samer @ Jan 24th 2008 6:01PM
Any palm treo users out there that can tell me what video software or browser update I need for this to work? I have the 650p
Mo @ Jan 24th 2008 11:29PM
its been out for over 6months. i;ve been browsing it but i keep on getting a file format error on my windows mobile 6
namtastic @ Jan 25th 2008 11:48AM
There is also a client for the N95 downloadable from the mobile site!
You can find some screenshots of it on Flickr. It actually leverages the RealPlayer code built-in on the phone for the 3GP streaming, which is crazy, but shows that it is actually designed for the device despite it being Java based (just like the N95 Google Maps client).

I think he was referring to having to tab through links instead of being able to click on them.
