LawnBott LB3500 offers Bluetooth control, stylin' rims
iRobot may own the market for autonomous indoor cleaning devices, but when it comes to taming that wild jungle you call a backyard, the new king of the hill may well be the LawnBott LB3500. This fourth-generation LawnBott from Kyodo America improves upon its predecessors in nearly every category: even though it weighs ten pounds less than the entry-level LB2000, it offers up a greater coverage area, increased cutting width, greatly improved incline climbing capability, longer runtime, and best of all, a Bluetooth radio for programming or direct control by cellphone. Of course, all these high-end features don't come cheap, and when the LB3500 does come to market (date: unknown), we imagine that it's gonna cost a good deal more than the current high-end, $2,500 LB3200. Check out the gallery below for some more angles.
Update: Wow! Reader John Locke somehow managed to send an email from the island notifying us that The Robot Store has the LB3500 listed at $3,699, on sale for "only" $3,249. Also available is the "Super" LB3500, which is really just a kit that includes two extra lithium-ion batteries and tacks almost $600 on to the price. Thanks, John, but we bet Jack and Kate won't be too happy when they find out you have Gmail access.

No, he's not.

I've never gotten over the notion that some punk kid would just run up and steal the thing while I was inside watching the game.
Juice @ Jan 25th 2008 11:14AM
While it's running!? Haha! Hopefully there's not an off switch on it.
yishai @ Jan 25th 2008 11:30AM
I hope it comes with a tiny Rick Moranis action figure.
tcc3 @ Jan 25th 2008 11:38AM
Does it have Lotus Notes?
tom @ Jan 25th 2008 11:50AM
Does it "zoom zoom"?
Pavan @ Jan 25th 2008 3:48PM
I wan't to post-birth abort that stupid Mazda kid. Any idea if Dysons are on sale anywhere? For god's sake...it's the same word repeated two times, at least pronounce it right. Hope he dies in one of those tin cans. On that note,
Why did Princess Diana cross the road?
Because she wasn't wearing her seatbelt

I cant see a point to this, the day everything in our homes is done by robots my bet is that it will be 1 robot rather than 15 different ones
until then we marry women.

Looks like their inspiration came from Batman's tumbler!

is there a model with the blade moved to the front so it can be used on neighbors annoying dogs and not lawns?
KYDS3K @ Jan 25th 2008 12:14PM
does it run Doom???
computer.dude.28 @ Jan 25th 2008 2:25PM
Now, this is just ridiculous. I think engadget should filter the word "Doom" from comments from here on.

What, no spinners? At least it is already lowered.
Tom @ Jan 25th 2008 1:34PM
Its $3249 at http://www.lawnbotts.com with 30 day money back trial. I paid 2499 for my lawnbott lb3200 which is similar to this but no bluetooth. I LOVE IT! Theft is covered under home owners so I dont worry. Seems like everybody thinks i'm hiding behind the window controlling it anyway - haha. Mowing grass sucks. Lawnbott w00t!
anonymouspimp @ Jan 25th 2008 1:34PM
Just a thought, wouldn't it be weird if you hired someone to mow your lawn, and a truck pulls up and dropped off a couple little robot things on your lawn and a guy just watched it work? Then picked them up 10 minutes later and went next door and did the same thing? lol
computer.dude.28 @ Jan 25th 2008 2:27PM
You can buy a winter charger for it! Why the HELL would you need a charger for it in winter?
CanCar @ Jan 25th 2008 2:41PM
This is phenomenal, mainly for those sluggish adolescents to whom it corresponds to clean the backyard
Jimbo @ Jan 25th 2008 3:04PM
It's useless without a poop detection/removal/avoidance system. After pooper-scopping, mowing is the "fun" part. Maybe that's the real market for the previously covered "slug-bot"!
Pavan @ Jan 25th 2008 3:49PM
Why do that when mexicans are so cheap?
Sara @ Jan 25th 2008 4:55PM
My lawnbott has a blog...
Rick @ Jan 25th 2008 5:37PM
Yea this is great and you live where grass grows as thin as hair. Put that thing on some St Augustine and watch it explode.
Arkaris @ Jan 31st 2008 12:54PM
The LB3500 as is can easily handle 1/2-3/4 of an acre of St. Augustine grass. Put the extra 2 batteries as you should be able to clear one acre. When the Evolution model came out it was just not heavy enough to handle St. Augustine grass, the mowing motor was more than strong enough. The LB3500 has the weight now to be able to sink into that thick grass and chop it up. The only problem most people have is the height. While St. Augustine will grow very nicely at 2.5 inches high, most people prefer the 4 inch mark because it strangles out all weeds. The cutting height of the LB3500 is just under 3 inches. You can find a full in depth review of the LB3500 at http://www.bamabots.com/lawnbott-lb3500-review.htm or for a brief over view http://www.bamabots.com/lawnbott-lb3500.htm

This has to be better fun than remote control car. Imagine controlling this beast using cell phone via Bluetooth connection. By the way, what happens if it lost the signal out of sudden?
http://giftgadgetgateway.com
Arkaris @ Feb 27th 2008 9:34AM
If the mower loses contact with the signal it will revert back to it's on board guidance. If it is within a wire boundary it will not cross over the wire. If it is outside of a wire boundary it will just move slowly forward and you just have to get back within range.
