How much would you pay to be the first Optimus Maximus owner?
We wouldn't have expected the first opportunity for consumers to pick up an Optimus Maximus to be in the wild frontiers of eBay, but hey, we'll take what we can get. Currently at $300 with 14 bids, but seeing how fast our pathetic bid was shot down, it looks like there's going to be quite a frenzy when the auction winds down on February 4th.

No direct link???
Does the keyboard come with firmware???
Nick @ Jan 29th 2008 2:46PM
Click the picture
John @ Jan 29th 2008 3:12PM
I could never justify paying over $30 for a keyboard, regardless of how many bells and whistles it had. It still looks cool, though.
Don Wilson @ Jan 29th 2008 3:54PM
So I'm guessing that stealing Apple's box designs is fair game these days?
Superevil @ Jan 29th 2008 3:57PM
So I guess white boxes aren't up for grabs anymore because crApple uses them? Take your lame ass fanboyism and jump off the nearest tall building.
Eric Leung @ Jan 30th 2008 2:18AM
O_O so does that mean that putting stickers on your boxes is copying microsoft?
jeeesus @ Jan 30th 2008 2:36PM
i am only going to bid if (s)he sticks on an apple sticker, like the ones that come with ipods.
then it will be worth the massive overpricing
James Cameron @ Feb 11th 2008 6:03PM
So was it Art Lebedev the proud ebay buyer is now the owner of that Maximus?
J @ Jan 29th 2008 2:24PM
Looks like you can spot the 'key remover tool' in the box. I wonder how many active OLED keys this particular Optimus comes with? Probably 1. Only need 112 more after you drop $3k on this bad boy on eBay.
Jack @ Jan 29th 2008 7:06PM
It says right on the page that all 113 are OLEDs
Marcus @ Jan 29th 2008 7:11PM
Sorry for comment abuse - But I really really really think Engadget should stump up the cash and buy it so that they can show us the ins and outs of this mystical beast.
Nubaeus @ Jan 29th 2008 2:32PM
...4 years ago I would've paid 1k, but the delay is just stupid now.
Mark @ Jan 29th 2008 2:36PM
I'm winning!
lanejasper69 @ Jan 29th 2008 2:39PM
not for long probably, but good luck!!!
timatl @ Jan 29th 2008 2:39PM
my logitech keyboard is working just fine for me. i think i spent maybe $80 and it came with a wireless mouse. i would be willing to spend maybe $100 for a very nice keyboard. this is useless.
dj-kenpo @ Jan 30th 2008 9:08AM
again, for someone with a $400 pc it's useless. for those of us with $6k workstations a $30 keyboard is just silly. would I use a $50 15" crt as well?
some people are content users and others creators. this is a tool, not a toy or bling.
lanejasper69 @ Jan 29th 2008 2:40PM
It's a keyboard people!!!!! Jesus this thing is so over hyped it's ridiculous!!! and LATE to Boot, I would pay more than 100.00 (like any other decent keyboard and mouse combo.) I don't care if it'll make toast for me in the morning!!! It's a keyboard any way you "slice it" Pun intended!
Faslane out
dtpmia514 @ Jan 29th 2008 4:09PM
in response to your comment, if you check out the ebay auction the guy is now including a toaster so you can have your precious bread in the morning.
monkfishbandana @ Jan 29th 2008 4:19PM
Actually the seller has updated the description. He is now throwing in a toaster for the winning bidder (seriously, check it out).
If $3000 for a keyboard sounds too much, I'm pretty sure the toaster justifies it. Wait...no, I'm definitely sure that justifies it.
lanejasper69 @ Jan 29th 2008 5:07PM
Okay, Now He's talking!!!!!!! I'm SOOOOO IN!!!!!
I'm sure. this guy's a nutjob
lanejasper69 @ Jan 29th 2008 5:07PM
I should have suggested a new Car!!! or at least a 1973 Ford Pinto, might have gotten it!!!
Faslane
Abuzar @ Jan 29th 2008 9:58PM
Q: What is the make and model of the toaster? Thank you kindly.
A: The toaster will be a Hamilton Beach Ensemble Toaster. Color-red. Model: 22903H. Seller reserved the right to select a different toaster if Best Buy is out of this one.
Fank @ Jan 29th 2008 2:55PM
Stupid Americans. Have fun with your recession, buy more imported goods!
Anthony @ Jan 29th 2008 3:05PM
Are you for real?
Fank @ Jan 29th 2008 3:07PM
What gives?
Superevil @ Jan 29th 2008 3:58PM
He's just got a little bit of sand in his vagina.
macona @ Jan 29th 2008 4:07PM
What recession? The economy has had positive growth for the past three quarters. Thats the opposite of a Recession.
Fank @ Jan 29th 2008 4:10PM
Step 1: Denial.
You people be sure to spend that rebate on imported goods now! Especially oriental goods! And buy war bonds at your work or bank!
Superevil @ Jan 29th 2008 5:25PM
WTF? Do war bonds even exist anymore?
Onetruebill @ Jan 29th 2008 6:00PM
Fank - I am guessing you are from china and trying to spell FRANK
Zach @ Jan 29th 2008 2:56PM
Wouldn't the person selling it be the first owner?
jivetrky @ Jan 29th 2008 3:26PM
ahhh touché!
IndiaTech @ Jan 29th 2008 2:57PM
I have lost my faith in eBay after I lost the 700 MHz auction.
Beata Yamin @ Jan 29th 2008 3:03PM
Did u really expect to win?
Josef @ Jan 29th 2008 3:08PM
Google is a great buyer. Would not hesitate to sell to again. A++++++++++
IndiaTech @ Jan 29th 2008 3:53PM
@Beata
Yep. Otherwise what's the point in bidding?
Student Driver @ Jan 29th 2008 6:01PM
Hey, you can't win if you don't play...
thethirdmoose @ Jan 29th 2008 6:45PM
Instead of spectrum, air contained bobcat. Would not buy again.
jtc970 @ Jan 29th 2008 3:04PM
I don't buy anything online without reading reviews.
Since this has been a big let down as far as price hikes and release dates, I'm gonna figure the trend will continue and the product will be a let down itself.
No bid from me.
Saad Rabia @ Jan 29th 2008 3:07PM
I would pay absolutely nothing for a bid on a product that will be out soon and will not be alone in the market after many companies adopting this technology and idea!
Raheem @ Jan 29th 2008 3:08PM
So this is a keyboard?
mike @ Jan 29th 2008 3:08PM
0.00001 cent
Mitch @ Jan 30th 2008 4:00AM
So if some one offered to sell it to you for $10, you wouldn't take it? Ass.
Ray @ Jan 30th 2008 2:22PM
You are a very greedy man. The other dragons shall hear of this.
Steffen Jobbs @ Jan 29th 2008 3:09PM
I mean it's a nice keyboard and all, but.... I'm only willing to spend whatever I find under the livingroom sofa cushions or winter coat pockets. I don't believe any keyboard should cost more than the computer you hook it up to. It's not that I think it's not useful to anyone, but it sure wouldn't be useful for my home use. Might be good for bragging rights, but that's about it.
Randy @ Jan 29th 2008 3:09PM
I'd pay one Dollar.
NHAnimator @ Jan 29th 2008 3:09PM
"How much would you pay to be the first Optimus Maximus owner?"
Replace 'first' with 'only'?
Brandon Halsne @ Jan 29th 2008 3:10PM
actually if you go to the site http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/optimus/ they are listing it for just over 460 bucks available for order now.
MitchSchaft @ Jan 29th 2008 3:12PM
$460 is for the keyboard with the spacebar and that's it.
jivetrky @ Jan 29th 2008 5:09PM
Actually it's a full keyboard with all but one key being normal plastic keys. You get ONE OLED key and can purchase more as you need/want them for a mere $10 each.
