Yeah my guess it's because of the weak dollar
For $100 more you can buy an Eee PC!
So ya take one of these guys, add a trivial VoIP interface, el-cheapo camera, and some minor voice recognition software and end up with a "videophone" hangable anywhere.
And I'm sure someone will get right on that after obtaining their Electrical Engineering degree!
You could buy an eeePC, hang it, and install voip software also. It has speakers and a mic jack. No hacking, and it turns out to be a pretty nifty laptop on top of that.
Hmmm...does an EEE open up flat?
Why is it so hard to find a digital picture frame that is just a digital picture frame! No mp3 or video playback, no speakers, no bells and whistles!
I see basic models from time to time, but they're always budget brands that have a reputation for suckiness!
I agree. I don't care about having video on a picture frame. Don't care about listening to mp3s on a picture frame. I care about looking at pictures on a picture frame. Give me one that has high resolution, reliable, excellent slide show features, looks nice and at a decent price and I would get one.
Bout the only other option that would be nice would be very good wireless support. Give it the ablity to connect to a shared drive on a network and bam! That I would be willing to pay extra for.
When are they going to put a bloody motion sensor on one of this things????
I don't want another piece of equipment on 24/7 for no reason...
There seems to be a subtle "you're touching me again!" behind her grin.
Whatever happened to the Ality/Mustek Pixxa Wireless that was hyped like crazy before the new year? I think there was a mini press release during CES but barely picked up by anyone. I was actually interested in getting that... nothing like being able to remotely update my parent's photoframes with our latest photos from a million miles away...
Check out http://www.photovu.com for high quality, but expensive digital picture frames. I don't think they support mp3's and videos. From their website, it looks like they bundle a compact computer with an LCD monitor coupled with a decent operating system (probably a linux variant).
