It may be a low-end DSLR contender, but Nikon's
D60 can still surprise. Seems Nikon and
Eye-Fi are in cahoots as the D60 was just announced as the first shooter crowned "Eye-Fi Connected." The D60 recognizes the Eye-Fi wireless 2GB SD card when inserted then automatically adjusts its "power timer settings" so that picture transfers aren't interrupted. Kind of important when uploading
hundreds dozens of 10.2 megapixel photos over WiFi. In return for the powerful industry nod, Eye-Fi will offer on-line integration with Nikon's "my Picturetown" this Spring. We'll be sure to go hands-on with the combo at PMA just as soon as we get the chance.

:\
I'd rather pay an extra $100 for the camera with this integrated...
I despise having to carry multiple SD cards, and 1gb is not enough storage for a 10mp camera, ever...
But it is neat, i guess i'll look for integration in the D60x or something or other.

Fsck that. I've had my Eye-Fi working in my D50 for about four weeks now.
Jeebus @ Jan 30th 2008 12:26PM
I believe the correct spelling is 'fuck'.
John from Buffalo @ Jan 30th 2008 2:14PM
If fuck meant fsck, then I would have typed fuck. But I didn't. I typed fsck. :)

Good thing that it's 2GB then isn't it?

seems like a good concept, getting WiFi onto DSLRs have been ridiculously expensive up to this point. Having an cheap affordable alternative is very nice. For instance, the Wifi battery grip for the Canon 40D, the WFT-E3A, cost $800.

"my Picturetown" ??? Sounds like Nokia's product development division has been taken over by 3rd grade girls. (With no offense meant to 3rd grade girls.)
Irene Rojas @ Jan 30th 2008 9:31AM
Nikon, not Nokia.
Josiah @ Jan 30th 2008 9:35AM
Haha, I had the N95 on the mind as I wrote that comment, oops!
LegendZ28 @ Jan 30th 2008 10:18AM
So not just the wrong company but the wrong device? Looks like you've got the reading comprehension of 3rd grade girl as well. ;)

They really need to _somehow_ get the ability to add accesspoints, wpa keys, log into captive portals etc on the eyefi for it to be really awesome. Having to preconfigre it on a computer really hurts its usability.

This is an interesting, and necessary addition to a camera that feels dated before it is even released. Still holding out for a surprise from Nikon during PMA.

This camera supports a feature that aught to stun you, it steals from your child's college fund and/or your retirement fund. Something other cameras only wish of.
Also, it has lightning fast ninjitsu skills, can your Rebel do that?

I recently purchased the Eye-Fi card and returned it after about a week. I was very disappointed in the way it worked. I couldn't take my a friends house and upload pictures. I had to be on my wi-fi network with access to my machine that I installed the Eye-fi software on.
It should find any open network and upload, not just the ones I pre-configure
Chris @ Jan 30th 2008 11:15AM
This is cool but I'm not sure of the usefulness. 10.2 megapixel images are large so the card can't store a lot of them on a 2gb card, and offloading them might not be so fast over wifi. Still I'm all for making everything wireless:)
CraigJ @ Jan 30th 2008 11:21AM
Eye-Fi sounds cool, but without ad-hoc network support, and no support for raw images I just can't get too excited about it.
Standingfast @ Jan 30th 2008 11:32AM
This seems kind of dumb....Why not just build the wifi into the camera if the radio can fit on a 2GB SD card...
Standingfast @ Jan 30th 2008 11:33AM
Especially is the camera has to have "built in support" for the Eye-fi anyways...
Mike Cohen @ Jan 30th 2008 2:00PM
I'm using an Eye-Fi card in my D40x. The only difference I can see is that it automatically adjusts the power timer. I just had to set it once manually.
KC OConnor @ Jan 30th 2008 4:32PM
I hope this means that Eye-Fi card will begin to support RAW.

D80, 4g highspeed SD card, linux/Digikam. what's the problem with storage and transfers?
