Nokia N95 8GB with US 3G passes FCC
We certainly can't guarantee that your wait for the US 3G version of the Nokia N95 8GB is nigh, but it did just pass through the FCC, meaning the last major hurdle to selling the things in the US is over. We don't blame you for gawking, just hang tight until Nokia drops the official word giving you occasion to lose somewhere close to a grand from your already badly abused bank account.

does anybody know about the battery life of this phone? i know that it was extremely bad with the European version, but maybe there is a change
European N95 8GB and N95 8GB NA are totally same this one just has NA 3G.
Classic N95 had the crappy battery.
Thought still this aint anything to shout about, but it's ok now.
It depends on how much you use it. I have several friends with it. At the start they all had bad battery life but they spend half the day playing with the GPS and other things on it, or left the camera running in the background etc.
Generally the battery is on a par with the other smartphones on the market as long as you dont go around blasting the GPS on whenever someone wants to see it.
becu55 - the 8GB is much better then the original N95 (EU) version.
I'm currently using one, voice (1-2 hour) and 3G usage every day, some camera (about six pics), podcasts (1 hour) and half-hour GPS, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth always on. It has plenty of battery left at the end of the day. Typically it runs for two days, if I don't use one of the functions above.
It's not the best, but for me it's acceptable and much better than the original N95.
There's a N95 Black 8GB on eBay right now but does anyone know how much it will go for?
But is it just the EU version. It looks totally same as this and has been in sale for months now.
My battery (n95 classic) last 2 or 3 days. Of course, there aren't portable device that allow bluetooth, wifi and gps working all the day with one charge.
Let me know when this thing passes the Shitty Interface testing. Then I'll be interested.
You'll be interested when it has been certified to have a shitty interface?
I really don't want to give up my Verizon coverage, but DAMN that thing is sexy.
Are you kidding me? That thing is a tank! On the other hand, I would definitely take it over my LG 6100 ....
Do want!
Nokia just needs to get some operator support like they do in Europe then phones like this will no longer be a rarity
I'll wait for the "N96" that has something other than a basic keypad for input. This device does too much to be crippled by numeric keypad input.
This is the American frequency version, because 3G data only worked on European frequecies. Right?
500-700$ probably...
For $750?! Honestly... I thought the iPhone was expensive. Hell, I even thought my Ocean was expensive. This is sickening. I hope there is a decent subsidized/contract savings at least?
Oh, haven't you heard? Despite the fact that the iPhone is hundreds of dollars cheaper than the N95, it's still somehow more expensive. Don't worry, I'm sure somebody will come up with some explanation of how that's possible.
The N95 8Gb can come for free in select plans in the UK. Enjoy your USA :)
The firmware upgrades in this are supposed to improve battery life, but in the case of the regular n95 most providers haven't approved the upgrade yet, so battery life is still a joke. I doubt it's much better in the 8GB version, because ALL the n-series phones are terrible battery hogs as soon as you actually start using any of the features! I've been massively underwhelmed by my n95, and having 8GB on board won't make much difference as its only use would be to kill the battery by taking photos or playing music. Everything else about the phone is quite nice (although the front panel controls are too fiddly and easy to cancel a text by mistake), but the battery means its a joke. I'm going back to Sony for my next phone.
What about the n82?
...also has a shocking battery life.
@Ayle - the battery is good with the n95 8GB. The N82 was the same for me (but only used it for three weeks). If you are fine with the smaller screen and the look of the N82, I would recommend it. It's faster, Xenon flash, much faster Gps, camera cover... But I don't think it has a Us 3G version.
meh
You wont be seeing qwertys on N series for long time if ever(other than TS form).
Europe and Asian
Smartphone=s60
NA
Smartphone=qwerty
For most of the people living in NA it seems that the concept of unlocked seems too hard ;)
You get this for free in uk for 2 years contract.
I've said it once and I'll say it again: "Why does anyone care about this phone?!?! Smartphone with LOL"... I think Nokia did it for the lulz
It's for people who wants functions over form.
Functions? How do you even type text on this thing?
One nice undocumented feature of the regular N95 is that it actually supports MicroSDHC. Meaning that it can support up to 8GB MicroSD cards. This is verified here: http://www.slashgear.com/sandisk-8gb-microsdhc-compatibility-test-278204.php
So there's really no point to get the N95, other than the screen size is slightly better.
Well NA is below 5% of world gsm markets so i dont think Nokia minds and Americans do have really different attitude for phones compared to Europe and Asia. In those markets the final device that will wrap all the portale stuff is cell phone. I dont think many Americans think like that.
Moto is there only because it's American ;)
This was suppose to be just normal N9x phone to end users with not that much of audience and it have sold 5.5 millions+N95 8GB sales so hopefully they realize that there is market for these kind of phones(thought not in NA at least by reading these comments ;)), but i would like them to stop milking N95(N95 classic, N95 US, N95 8GB, N95 8GB NA)and give us the new N9x series phone already. N95 the razr of smartphones.
Fingers crossed for 3GSM
The problem is that all the functions aren’t that up to spec they ought to be, Camera, 5mp, auto focus, fine, though n82 is better with xenon flash, and vga video, its just the spec of vga at 30 fps that’s impressive, quality is actually poor; stereo speaker, not that loud, thanks a lot, EU, for your volume restrictions and quality is worth than n81, bad bass response and very unbalanced base and high freq at louder volume, music through headphone is not even as good as than n73; and the screen scratches too easily. Though looking forward to FW updates. BTW battery is good, as long as you don’t use it to full potential, i.e., heavy multitasking; 90mb+ ram after booting up is still impressive.
Well of course professional wont throw hes camera for this, but video recording is great, miles ahead of SE. Camera in N95 has won many reviews, but k850 is in the same level now with fw updates(thought N95 takes pretty horrible low light pics), but if one of the main reasons to buy a phone is camera your better with N82 or samsung( sry name escapes). N82 best allrounder phone with 2th best quality and best flash wheres that samsung had best quality.
Theres really good review about all 5mpx camera phones in gsmarena.com.
I mean VGA@30 fps is impress for a mobile, though looking at samilar video captured at same resolution and fps, n95 8gb looks unfocused, and blurry on a pc.
Don't take my word for this, go to google, and you will find that it confirms what i said, n91 is the best as its got better TI DAC, also n73 ME sound better than n95 8gb, though n91 8gb has best audio quality best for n series. BTW, I currently use shure e500 for my zune and n95.
I got used to the edge speed thanks to my 8125 and my iphone so that shouldn't be a problem.
does anyone have any info about when T-Mo USA will launch 3G? i'm getting tired of waiting....
You and me both buddy.
The price for this phone only is about $779.99
