AT&T wireless data outages hit the Midwest, other areas

We're getting reports from all over that AT&T customers are having trouble with 3G and EDGE data. A majority of the complaints are coming from the Midwest / Chicago areas, where things seem to be down entirely, but we've also heard from folks as far away as Florida. Team Engadget hasn't hit any snags in New York or Vegas where we're currently situated, but let us know if you're having troubles wherever you might be -- and what color crayon to use for this fancy "threat level" printout we've got pinned to the wall.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Okay got a call to go threw, it just took like 3 min. for the connection to start ringing. I called my contact at AT&T to see if i could get the scoop on what was up, sadly i got his voice mail. (He must be busy or hiding under his desk) Nothing gets people fired faster than Downtime or poor backups from failure.
"Could not activate EDGE" in Minneapolis. I was wondering what was up...
Edge is down in Wichita, KS.

I wish data was down in NJ. The last blackberry outtage about a year ago was the best six hours I've had in a long time!
3G seems to be working fine in Detroit
Edge is still down in KCMO as of 1:00pm Local time.
i can place calls but can't receive calls on my iPhone (kentucky number, currently with me in florida). I can send AND receive text messages.
I took it to the att store in st petersburg this morning. The only explanation they could come up with is the weird network problems.
I'm having the exact same problem. iPhone from ohio down in Savannah, Ga and neither my wife nor I can receive calls but all other function work.
No Edge in Iowa City, IA.
Dammit I guess I have to actually work today instead of reading Engadget articles on my iPhone.
I'm in Chicago, and its been down all morning. I thought I missed my bill payment! Goddamn AT&T. Although we are getting a freezing blizzard up here, and my cable has been intermittent as well.
Haha...I thought the same thing. I was like did I pay my bill? I know I did...I was trying to check while driving to work. But then I realized, "NO EDGE!"

AT&T said it "is a know issue," and it spans WI,IL,FL, and Puerto Rico.

Odd. Edge is working just fine for me in Bloomington and I was able to receive a call from a Verizon cell earlier today.

sarah, sure... they'll give you a credit... call them, get transferred around to 4 different departments who will eventually tell you you've called the wrong 800 # and you have to call a different one... call that one, get transferred around more... eventually you'll get a nice $4 billing credit. have fun, let us know how it works!

We're about 50/50 here in Milwaukee...some of my user's Blackberries are working, others aren't, they get: "Data Connection Refused" and "edge" not "EDGE". I'm sitting next to some of them, and I have "EDGE" and working data on my Blackberry.
EDGE has been down in St. Louis since past midnight.
Is there a way on the iPhone to revert to GPRS for now so I atleast receive my Yahoo! push mail??
No EDGE for over half of the BlackBerry users in my organization since before 8am this morning. They may have the most bars in the most areas, but if they cannot provide consistent service, is it worth it? What a joke.
if you call and complain to 611, they will give you a $ credit- no timeframe on a fix yet
My iPhone is out here in Kansas City. It says "Cannot activate EDGE network" after trying to check my email.
No EDGE on my iPhone in Champaign, IL. Been trying for two hours, nothing.
No data service (3G in my case) at all in Colorado Springs, CO. It was working fine as of 6:30 am MST and then went down somewhere around 7:00 am.

Chicago suburbs, no edge on my blackberry 8300
I'm in Las Vegas and I'm getting "Voicemail Unavailable. Unable to initiate connection." No visual voicemail and no way to retrieve it other than by dialing in.
No dice here in Indianapolis on my Blackjack II on 3G.
No word from ATT other then "reboot your phone often and wait for the free txt message that says it's fixed"!
Edge is down in St. Paul, MN, but 3G/HSDPA still up and running.

EDGE was up and down all morning, but appears to be functioning properly, albeit slower than usual on the iPhone. Tallahassee, FL.
