AT&T wireless data outages hit the Midwest, other areas

We're getting reports from all over that AT&T customers are having trouble with 3G and EDGE data. A majority of the complaints are coming from the Midwest / Chicago areas, where things seem to be down entirely, but we've also heard from folks as far away as Florida. Team Engadget hasn't hit any snags in New York or Vegas where we're currently situated, but let us know if you're having troubles wherever you might be -- and what color crayon to use for this fancy "threat level" printout we've got pinned to the wall.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Chicago still down, and the way it's snowing, I expect to be stuck in my car quite awhile. Has AT&T acknowledged the problem and issued an ETA for a solution?

Denver CO - 3g networks has either been down or malfunctioning.
I stopped hearing the voice in my head that said Bush and Republican Party are great at the same time 3G stopped working. Do you think there's connection?
In New York City and having all sorts of problems on my Tilt since last night. 3125 still working.
no service here in Chicago....oh wait...I use US Cellular...that's up and running just fine.

3G was recently implemented here, and since then a majority of people have been questioning not only failed data because of Edge/3G spikes, but an extremely high call failure rate. My calls fail at least once a day now, but sometimes its all day.
Edge up in Memphis, can;t check 3G.
RFO we got was:
There was an interface between Nashville and Indianapolis Backbone routers that was dropped. This has resolved the initial outage and the many customer-affecting outages that had been occurring in tandem with this outage.
Also in Italy on Telecom Italia Mobile we had the same problem with iPhone... Strange.. isn't it?
I'm in Chicago and have had absolutely no problems with my Edge connection. Maybe it's specific to each part of the city.
Does anyone think that this has anything to do with the Middle East and South Asian internet outage?
Perhaps AT&T uses Indian monitoring/control/whatever?

no outages of edge network but slowed speed. i ran a bandwidth test on the iphone 3 times and results ranged from 165k-195k. last month my average speed was 217k.
EDGE has been working in Kansas City all day
Both EDGE and 3G have been fine yesterday and today in and around Ohio State and Columbus, OH.
No problems here over the past few days.

The EDGE network is down in New York City as well. My iPhone can't get on EDGE, and nor can any of the iPhones in the 5th ave store. Bloody AT&T
EDGE is down here in the Washington D.C. Metro area. Could've used it today too, I got lost in Crystal City and my iPhone was no help with Google Maps not having any data connection.
I can also confirm that EDGE is down in NYC.

I've been having problems in Los Angeles. I called and complained, they acted like I was the first they have heard of it.....
Same thing with my damn text messages being out of order and not coming until I send a text first.
For the most part the outtages are very sporadic and short lived(I work for at&t) if you're data is out now it will normally be fixed that day. If you have questions call your local store(corporate store) and ask if there is a ticket submitted for you. If you dont let us know there is a problem in your area then we can't find out.
Oh and EDGE is awesome in Omaha and Lincoln.

Edge and 3G zipping (at least for the latter) along nicely in the Inland Empire of Southern California.
Apple hasn't released a 3G iPhone yet because they realize AT&T's 3G network blows.

Mid-Missouri, 3G service is out all over. I'm in Columbia, and I'm suffering having to use Edge, boooo. Effing AT&T.

This has really sucked...it was over 4 days of intermittent service in Portland!
detroit... just came back from germany where voicemail was working fine, but no edge connection in the home area. bloody hell.
