Cyberpyrot's Xbox 360 voice recognition controller mod
Usually we spot console modders adding a few LEDs to their boxen, squeezing in some extra memory or perhaps even changing a form factor altogether, but it's rare to see these hackers actually hack in some original functionality. Cyberpyrot over at Acid Mods is taking this whole modding business to a whole new level with his voice recognition controller for the Xbox 360, which involves some heavy hacking and a bit of hardware kit wizardry to let you control teh Halos with merely the silky smooth sound of your voice. The mod is ostensibly designed to help out the mobility impaired, but we all know it's going to be primarily used by slothful nerds (you know, those "purists" that didn't pick up a Wii) who have decided that even repetitive finger motions are too much of an effort. The current mod can handle 10 different voice commands, check out a video of it in action after the break.

Hey I'm a quadriplegic-injured in a car accident 4yrs ago. One thing I missed was being able to do something when friends came over. Your idea is great and I would really like to talk to you. My email is bradc130@gmail.com

This is a great proof of concept and clearly illustrates the hardware can be used by disabled people. I'm sure someone will be able to do this with the Wii and help some of our vets as well. Good job!

Dennijr @ Mar 27th 2008 5:29PM
might be difficult to tbag very fast, depending on the word used, crouch could end up comming out as crou or crotch, and duck could come out as tuck :P
Denver_80203 @ Jan 31st 2008 4:11PM
Does screaming "OH SHIT!" make my character duck in Halo cause that would improve my game instantly by like 40%
Dennijr @ Mar 27th 2008 5:30PM
lol, ither that or F@#K numberous times over which gets heard alot XD
Matt @ Feb 1st 2008 2:10AM
Can you imagine using this when playing online and using a mic? The opposition would know your move before you ever made it. HA! It's got to be quicker. Also, he clearly should have used grunts or fart sounds.
Dennijr @ Mar 27th 2008 5:29PM
lol, not only would you be giving people a heads up on your 'plan', but talking on the mic could end up being disasterous, especially ingame; you- dont shoot me, oops, i shot u instead...
not only that, but in general, u no all those times when ur parents are yelling at u and ur yellin back XD
its a really cool mod, but unfortunately, when you think about it, somewhat not practical.
