MacBook Air gets the unboxing treatment
Not that we'd expect any different but, in just two days after the first few shipping notices went out, we now have some of the first MacBook Air unboxing photos, which again show that thing is really thin (and the box isn't too pudgy either). What's more, the folks at Uneasy Silence who did the unboxing honors are also promising to benchmark the system shortly, although there shouldn't be too much surprise as to how it stacks up. Head on over after the break for a couple more pics, and hit up the read link below for the full show.

first post!
Well, I paper works just fine too..
Lame to the "First Post". Do you need a prize for being first.
even lamer to post a reply to it...
damnit -1 for me
So I guess you must be the lamest of us all. Buyaa
Do you remember the first Titanium Ad?
"You know you are going to so want one!"
Admit it... You know you are going to so want one!
Heeh!
I want one... It's beautiful. I just don't want to have to actually use it everyday knowing that I payed way too much for an underpowered notebook.
New MBP, pretty please??
Actually I really don't. I mean I wouldn't mind checking it out if a friend bought it - just to see how really light it is, and to see if the construction feels solid. But owning one - no, I don't make enough money to waste it like that.
It looks black. Must be the relfection of the box or something. That would look badass if it were black...
...but I still wouldn't buy one.
MBP FTW.
Wow, clearly, its the box that's black. That black thing with the apple in the last photo probably has documentation or a cleaning cloth in it, its not the laptop itself.
The second pic isn't of the MacBook Air. It is of the folder containing the Documentation and CD's. Click on the read link to see all of the unboxing photos.
@Brendan.
Wow, clearly you are one serious fellow. Sorry I spoke before clicking read.
Why do you use the MBP? I bet you have use for the dedicated graphics, larger screen, faster processor, ability to add RAM, larger(?) HDD and extra ports.
Not everyone does. There is no point in forcing the MBP to compete with the MBA with your lame "MBP FTW" quote.
Sorry Big John,
I only said that so the Hardcore Apple Fanboys wouldn't haze me and would know that I too have love for Apple...I just would never buy this machine and would never suggest someone else to.
That seems foolish. If they are looking for a second computer to do internet browsing, some word processing and not much else with form factor as an issue, you shouldn't just toss out the MBA. It's foolish to go into any recommendation tossing out any product because you simply don't like it.
@ MikeLong: "I just would never buy this machine"
Fine.
"and would never suggest someone else to."
WRONG. You need to wake up and accept the fact that not everybody is exactly like you, and that people's needs are different. I wouldn't buy one either, but that doesn't mean nobody will - it serves some people's needs just fine.
Gah...I didn't want to get into some big internet argument about it but you make it so tempting.
If people buy it...fine...never in my comments did I say anything about me going around busting kneecaps of every MBA buyer, I just said I would never suggest someone buy it. Come on, why not spend less money, and get a more powerful Apple. I just don't get it. It's extremely impractical and its only real marketable feature is that it is damn sexy looking.
The box dimensions look almost exactly the same as a Zune Originals box, but there's a more useful, and thin, product inside.
Congrats for the most useless post in that topic...
There's also a 1600 dollar price difference.....but good one (not)
Didn't know the original zune came with a zune shredder
Digg!
http://digg.com/apple/MacBook_Air_gets_the_unboxing_treatment
What's up with that constant Digg spamming? That story is nowhere near that interesting to warrant a digg...
He just had an orgasm. His first.
It's important for him.
So why didn't Apple save some trees and ship it in a manilla envelope?
*eyeroll*
Everything Mac - Everything else...
...the fucking arrogance is so annoying. You can't say the fanboys don't come by it honestly.
Huh? How is it arrogance? The 'Everything Mac' includes things like restore DVDs. The 'Everything Else' includes things like Bluetooth regulatory cards etc. that the end user doesn't have much use for. It's not like it has a Windows disc in it or something.
So... can someone explain the "Unboxing" phenomena to me? I just don't get it. Why is watching someone unbox a product so interesting?
Perhaps if I was 13 years old again....
or if we were unboxing Veronica Belmont. :)
Are you honestly saying that on a gadget website. This is what we do, lust after gadgets.
Too bad that it is way to much money for a crippled notebook that isn't really a UMPC. Hey - can we see the next set of photos with the guy crying after the novelty wears off?
I need one just so I can say that I have an MBA without going to business school!
So, heh, when's the contest to give one of these purty little fellers away, huh?
This is news?
I'm dissappointed that there is no manilla envelope :(
Gorgeous thing of beauty inside and out. Will work great for that quick trip to work at the local cafe shops or associates offices. Hmm or even outside to do some work while soaking up some rays.
Yes, we know it's thin.
*Everyone* knows it's thin.
Thanks.
I don’t quite get the hatred that a lot of people have towards the Air. While I would like a bigger HDD, pretty much nothing else bothers me.
I’m a professional engineer, working in a research lab, so I’m assuming that I work my computers as hard as anyone else. That said, everything is on the netowork. I haven’t used my DVD drive in 6 months. I know this, because it broke 6 months ago and haven’t felt the need to fix it. I plug my iPhone in to sync and very occasionally find someone who wants to give me data on a USB drive, but the Air can handle these situations with no problem. I’ve stopped carrying my extra batteries in my laptop bag because they just weigh me down and I very rarely needed extra juice.
I’m not saying that the Air is for everyone. But really, some people don’t need 8 USB devices plugged into their computer all the time and aren’t burning DVDs on the road while carrying 15 lbs in batteries because it’s been a month since they’ve seen an internet cafe with a spare power outlet. (Hint: a 3 outlet splitter costs and weighs a lot less than an extra battery.)
Apple has created the sports car of notebooks; a single purpose machine that is very good at doing what it does and that compromises in other aspects. But I think that the Air is for the cutting edge user, not the person still burning CDs.
Dam thats sexy :)
rock on mike! same shit happened to me, and i didn't miss my optical drive either. everything is on the server, plus there's remote disk if you reeally need it.
i'll wait 'till rev two speedbump, but i'm buying that thing.
