SanDisk pushes SDHC to 32GB
The bits, they just keep coming -- now that 16GB SDHC cards are old hat, SanDisk's gone and upped the ante with these new 32GB cards. That matches Toshiba's record, but you won't be able to get your hands on one until April, when they ship for $349. A 16GB version and a new 8GB Ultra II SDHC Plus with flip-out USB connecter will also hit in March for $179 and $99, respectively -- but you know you want the big'un, don't lie.

isn't it the highest they can push ?
so what's next ?
64GB i guess..?
oh yea, that's hot. !!
I wonder if it would work with this:

KC, the post you referred to says "The SDB25SD from GeekStuff4U can host up to 4x SD (not SDHC) cards for a maximum capacity of 8GB"
But it would nice they made an SSD adapter that would work with these 32GB cards.
i want 32 gb on a microsd card.
I agree. I can just imagine my HTC Touch with 32GB of memory. So much for the iPhone and its memory restrictions.

Digg This!!

If you add this to a small laptop like an everex or an Eee - wouldn't this qualify as a makeshift SSD hard disk backup drive?
The way I see it, micro laptops, radio head units in cars, VIDEO GAME SYSTEMS like Wii), cameras and MP3 players on the generic market should make use of SD cards for storage considering how easy they are to transport.
So 2 of these are cheaper than the 64 gb ssd for the mac book air? Nice!
The upcoming Linux handheld Pandora will sport dual SDHC ports.. Hot diggity!
They already do.
@knowsbetter - yes, they are cheaper. but they are way, way, way slower than a real ssd.
Um, Yes and no.
Yes you could use use it as a HD, however as Kyle Mentioned, they are no where near as fast as an SSD or a traditional HD and they have a limited number of writes that it can tolerate until it "wears out". the MTBF is pretty high on these cards compared to HDs which is why they aren't used as replacements for a real HD.
How much does it worth in litigation if the MAFIAA gets your 32GB SDHC?
I know these are overpriced in its own way, but I'd still rather have two of these and stick them into a laptop vs getting one with the same size for $1,000. Reference to the way overprice MacBook Air.
I think replacing the harddrive in that, you can probably fit at least 4, maybe even more than 16 of these if they can store it in a neat way.
I am assuming this 32GB is MLC which is what makes it cheaper. The read/write speeds are too slow to use it in a laptop. SSDs right now use SLC which is what makes it that much more expensive. As secondary storage however it is very useful, although there are plenty high capacity USB drives...
iirc, it's not a new record. panasonic was showing off a 32gb sdhc card at CES this year. i'm pretty sure you even had a post about it.
Speed isn't the only difference: you have to be careful if you want to use SDHC as storage that an OS has direct access to. SSDs are designed to handle small and frequent data reading/writing (such as with paging or temp files). Flash memory like this is best used with devices that only write or delete data (eg: digicams); if they're used to modify data directly on the card, they can easily become corrupt and rendered useless (this has been reported numerously with 16gb cards on MIDs).
So yes, if you want to pop a couple of these into your N800 and get 64gb of storage for photos/videos/music, that's fine; just don't let the OS toy with it.
I'm going to play the Star Trek Orgasm video again while I think of this
OH BABY!!!!
the comment system is acting queer
I note that this card appears to be Class 4, whereas a lot of the newer AVCHD cameras suggest Class 6 is required
hmm how about some micro-sd 16GB love? That would pretty much make my phone god.
oh and since the reply button isn't working, I'll put it down here. This is to expand on the comment by fh. A bigger problem is that flash can only be written to so many times. I belive the number is on the order of 10,000 which is a lot for something like a camera or a cellphone but an OS could render the thing useless in less than a second. I'm not sure how they get around that in ssds but ya that's why they're expensive. Otherwise at their sizes they could probably fit close to a terabyte just by having a bunch of sd cards.
My EeePC wants one of these...
