Poll: What do you call a combined Yahoo! and Microsoft?

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Mooooooooooooo!
ah... Microsoft Yahoo! Edition...
Yahoo!soft
mihooooooooooo
If They are integrating Windows Live with Yahoo messenger so I can view Xbox360 contacts/messages when I log into Yahoo, IM IN !
But, Yahoo already has 360 http://360.yahoo.com/
Will they change the name?
"Microsoft!"
HastalaVista!
AhYooSoft!
Maybe Yahoo! Live
Or, as Microsoft would have it, Yahoo!, who?
Because we all remember Tim Patterson, his company Seattle Computer Products and their little 'contribution' to Microsoft called MDOS...
Yahoo is dead, microsoft is just sucking them up to ensure they cant return as a zombie plague upon them.
MSN MarketShareMonopoly-soft Live! Ultimate Edition Service Pack 2
I'd vote for Yaboo!, but there's no option for that.
I do not see Yahoo being worth one tenth the stated value. Seems an absurd way to throw money away, IMO.
@James Ollier
No... you will have to wait 4 years for that service pack 2 edition
MSN MarketShareMonopoly-soft Live! Ultimate Edition beta 1 makes more sense.
This is great, this purchase should distract MS enough that it will finally loose its monopoly position. I predict a self imposed breakup of MS sometime in the next 5 years and a write off of most of their goodwill.
GO MS!
Yacrosoft. Cause you used it, it pisses you to the point of stress induced vomiting...... They both are crappy at times.....
Y GO! Microsoft.
I call it "the sign of the End Times", myself, but that's just severe soul-crushing paranoia.
I call it a big, steamy pile of shit.
Hoosoft!
Actually, not a bad PR move on Microsoft's part since Yahoo was announcing layoffs (especially in this recession). Microsoft buys Yahoo and doesn't lay anyone off. Looks good and works out all around.
Key word here is "acquisition".
Call it anythink you like (Big brother), but he will watching you.
Yes, and his name is Google.
Yahooft!
I voted "Nothing, the Feds won't approve it" because there's no "Nothing in Europe, the Eurocrats won't approve it"
Yahoo + Microsoft = Yahsoft
I think when Microsoft decided that they needed to focus on advertising revenue instead of their primary strengths (software), they started to fail. Now they have become a jack of all trades and a master of none.
But in the world of the internet, people go the master of whatever field they need, not the mediocre option.
pure unadulterated hate?
Yacrosoft for the win.
How about calling it Yahoo!. You don't offer to pay $44.6 billion for a company and then change its name.
That would be like McDonalds being purchased by WalMart and being called McMart.
I for one hope that this goes through. Microsoft may not be your best pal when It comes to certain things. But they are far and above the most capable company on the market.
I think its time to read up on how to buy shares. Many many shares.
Sir.
Mahoo!
MicrosoftY!
I think they shouldn't toss the Yahoo brand. I think Yahoo is a stronger and more recognized name when it comes to search and instant messengers. I think some things should be remain branded "Yahoo".
I also hope Microsoft doesn't mess things up when the companies merge. I personally think MyYahoo is better than MyMSN. I also think Yahoo's online map program is better than Google's. If Microsoft has a map program, then I have never heard of it.
Well this shows you haven't even looked at Microsoft's latest stuff, like Windows Live.
I admit, MSN is practically dead. I'm doing a review on start pages, iGoogle, MyYahoo!, MyMSN, and MyMSN has to be the WORST start page ever.
But I definitely do not think it was cool for you to not even acknowledge Live Maps, and assume it's the worst. Live Maps has got to be the best, or one of the best mapping sites by features. Live Maps does full-color 3D cities, close up birds-eye-view of areas by helicopter, first with full traffic data, better looking road maps, 3D tours of your collection, 3D in your browser, among other things.
Just because you haven't used it, isn't fair to make an assumption that it's bad.
Crap!
Ya Soft! its a direct challenge to google.
Or microhoo, what do i care.
Microhoo! seems the most apt.
I like MicroHoo.
What's a MicroHoo?
A smaller version of a Hoo.
I don't think any of those really work. It needs to stay as Microsoft, but the o's should be replaced with smiley faces. I'm pretty sure that will be appropriately terrifying.
Watch Google come in with a counter offer of 2 doughnuts and a custard pie.
I heard somewhere that apple had filed a patent for the process involved in looking for and finding information on the internet.
So might as well invest in the next 'find engine' since the 'search engine' is clearly dead.
I would call it the death of Zimbra... The excellent email/collaboration server that Yahoo! bought last year...
Topslakr
"The Anti-Christ"?
So what happens to the email that I have used for the last several years ?
Will I have to try and remember who all has it ? so I change it ?
Laracroft!
MiYahooSoft!
or
Bob
Oh Noes! There goes my Flickr pro account!!!
A Coy Room Of Shit.
I'd go with
Yahoocrosoft
Or maybe
Microhoo!
@James Ollier
MSN MarketShareMonopoly-soft Live! Ultimate Edition Service Pack 2
eric.berthiaume
MSN MarketShareMonopoly-soft Live! Ultimate Edition beta 1 makes more sense.
Though James and Eric have the best so far, IMHO, i nevertheless submit MicroTedium! ... for the company that gets duller and less relevant with every acquisition and software release.
My Guess is "Microsoft" maybe they might add a '!' to the logo for a short while, most-likely we may see an end to the 'MSN' name and then something more like "YahooMSN!"
If they call it Michoo!, will they get sued by Mcdonalds or Dr. Suess.
Selloutoo!
Really F*#$ed Up!!
DOA
Compuglobalhypermeganet
:3
If this goes through, I'm out of Yahoo! for good, and I have been with them since they started offering free email... I even pay for it. It will be a sad day. Microsoft can be a competent company when it comes to generating revenue, but shame about creating good quality products, and let's not forget they are not very famous for "playing nice".
Because we all remember Tim Patterson, his company Seattle Computer Products and their little 'contribution' to Microsoft called MDOS...
Baz, ever seen a little underground movie called........"The Pirates of Sillicon Valey"?
I thought I was the only one who ever heard this little bit of knowledge.
As to the poll, ya lets just take something that has been working wonderful for many years and give it to Microsoft to mess up.yah, sounds like an idea to me!
Yicrosoft!
Moogle.
Anyhoo!
Why would Microsoft dominate? Yahoo is just as big... if you include Softbank.
Garbage!
No name changes, people. If Microsoft DOES buy Yahoo! and the government allows it (I have a real hard time believing they will), they're not going to rename it anything. They'll leave the name alone and slowly start to merge Yahoo! services with similar ones from Windows Live/MSN. Maybe even make services compatible with each other (like their Messengers or email services).
I saw this same thing in the comments on Digg about an hour or so ago (before it had appeared here). Good to see where Engadget are getting all their ideas from these days.
Losersoft.
Megacrap wasn't an option, so I did't vote.
Realistically, they won't give up the Yahoo! brand.
So the new name is most likely MS Yahoo!
Necrosoft! Tag-line: screwing the dead and dying cos they don't hassle us over Vista. Besides, we're only doing it for the exclamation mark.
Yahoo! calls it HOSTILE!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080201/ts_alt_afp/uscompanyitmicrosoftyahootakeover_080201143544
"M!crosoft"?
And in the future it won't be "M$"... it'd be "M¥".. :P
SoftYahoos!
• Yasoftoo
• Dr. Kenneth Noisewater
• ALLYOURBASEAREBELONGTOUSoft!
• A piece of crap company
If microsoft takes over Yahoo! I will switch my homepage to Google. It doesn't matter what they call it or not, or even if they advertise it, I won't have a Microsoft homepage.
Wow, what hate. Even if it happens to be a very great page (which I find Live.com to be very good at), you are still going to base it by a company.
It's just plain wrong to hate a whole group these days, over something so small.
Ya-Soft
Where 'Ya' is pronounced like the German 'Ja' ('Yes').
The Collective
...we only seek to improve the quality of life for all species...
...your cultural and technological distinctiveness will be joined to our own....
Resistance is Futile.
Ok, Business 101. A Merger is when two equally sized companies decide to combine forces for the common good; able to take advantage of economies of Scale. What this is, is an acquisition of a smaller company for its own personal growth. Thus in the Beginning it will start of as Yahoo, and slowly be turned into Yahoo Live, then just Live by Microsoft. We all remember when Microsoft's G4 network acquired Tech TV.
Microsoft is spending its stimulus package check. lol.
You can't actually change the "Microsoft" part because then the name of the company will no longer describe the dicks of the CEO/founders (yes, I know that's an old joke but it MUST stay true!)
So, if they did merge (even though there's no way it would get past the SEC), it would probably be called Microsoft-Yahoo, with the respective brands still being kept seperate (similar to how HP still sells Compaq computers as a seperate brand).
LMAO!@"HastalaVista!"
Yahsoft!
A large steaming pile of crap, Inc.
I would call it MicroGoogle or MicroTurn or Trying-to-catch-google or something. Because, thats what its all about.
Dot Crap.
I call it Monopoly.
Just rename the whole thing.
Yahoo Bill!
microsoff
Miyahoocrosoft!
YM! Live
MicrosoftY!
I read this news this morning, and all I can say is: did Hell just froze over? O.o
I knew this was rumors and hearsay months ago or a year ago, but, wow, I guess Microsoft decided to let out...
.. and, damn, $44 billion dollars! With Yahoo in a slump right now, that would make anyone jump at it.
I hope services don't change though, I use Yahoo as my primary e-mail (with own web address) and my small business account. Microsoft better not touch those two.
If this goes through it will have to be before the Dems get in power next January. BushCo might allow this, but I don't see the next administration allowing it, if only to show "we are not controlled by big business like the previous adminstration".
Microhoo!
Here's a new logo and everything:

Yahoo Microsoft Edition

You're MICRO SOFT that's Hoo! YA!
