PSP slim gets super-hackable PSP firmware v1.50?
PSP hackers will probably be pleased to learn that the next step has supposedly been taken by homebrew hacker Dark_AleX, who claims (with video!) to have the original and most hackable PSP firmware ever, v1.50, running on the new PSP slim hardware. The YouTube clip is posted after the break; take it as you will, but c'mon, it's an eventuality.

But i wants my skype =[
Uchiha Sasuke @ Feb 4th 2008 12:30AM
You can still have your skype. Install the V1.50 FW then update to CFW 3.90 M33. Or buy AppleTV, I hear it can do Skype.
iofthestorm @ Feb 4th 2008 12:46AM
Err, why would you buy an Apple TV when you can just use Skype on your computer?

Having v1.50 firmware running is great, but it is NOT the original firmware, v1.00 is. It is more hackable, but not in a good way, because v1.00 lets you run whatever you like, and v1.50 lets you run whatever you like only if you hack it.

Didn't Dark Alex supposedly retire or something?
smilgy @ Feb 4th 2008 2:13AM

Mister Kay @ Feb 4th 2008 2:34AM

You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.

1.5 was the firmware for the "phat" PSP, correct? since we know that the PSP-2000 has more system memory, doesn't installing the firmware from the phat PSP limit the addressable memory to what the phat PSP could, even if the hardware's there?
tekdroid @ Feb 12th 2008 7:34AM
hmm, good question.
entropyman @ Feb 4th 2008 12:50PM
can't you just drop 1.5 with a pandora battery? I haven't tried it on my slim yet- mostly b/c I have been waiting for a 3.8/3.9 m33 install from 1,5 so I don't have to do 3.6>1.5>3.5m33-2>3.5m33.3>3.(8/9)m33 which is all kind of a pain
linoth @ Feb 4th 2008 9:15PM
No. The hardware used by the Slim isn't completely supported by firmware before 3.60, I believe. Previously, if you Pandora'd back before that point, your screen wouldn't work. Kind of like trying to install Windows 98 on a brand new computer that previously had Vista and expecting the sound card to work immediately. The drivers probably just don't exist for compatibility.
