E-TEN's Glofiish M810 and V900 with secret touch-based WinMo interface
After teasing us with a lustful peep from their V900's marketing collateral, E-TEN had the good grace to make their newest Glofiish official. Their first handset to offer mobile TV does so without hesitation -- DVB-H, DVB-T, T-DMB, and DAB broadcast media are all supported on that generous VGA display. These consumer oriented Windows Mobile phones pack an unspecified GSM radio, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS underneath a new, E-TEN developed touch-based user interface. Presumably, E-TEN has a TouchFLO-like layer to hide the consumer-unfriendly ugliness of Microsoft's increasingly dated and finger-meat hating mobile OS. Also announced is E-TEN's new Glofiish M810 with HSDPA, WiFI (b/g), and GPS with full QWERTY in tow. More on these with their unveiling at GSMA. [Via Pocket PC Thoughts]

It looks good but for me, that antennae is the deal breaker. Unless they give you 3 or 4 spare antennae's I couldn't get that. I'm suprised other companies haven't copied Sony's, Antennae in a wrist strap idea.

IMO, the reason WM looks ancient is because until recently, it was marketed toward business only. "Who would want to make copies?" or "A Mouse?" Business users havent always been that innovative... Im glad to see some companies stepping it up though.

If they could make an antenna that also worked as a removable stylus that would be pretty nifty.

"increasingly dated.. mobile OS"
If only WM had cut and paste, tasks, over the air calender sync and 3G ...
Oh it does? I thought it was dated? Must have been thinking of another OS.

WM may be feature packed, but only a delirious fanboy would ignore that fact that it's interface is dated and aging. Let's call a spade a spade, shall we?

Sorry, I forgot pretty was everything. I should not want to go to my e-mail by just pressing the e-mail button from anywhere. I should instead want to go to the home screen every time. Same for phone calls. Who wants a phone button on a phone. Thats so last century. Forget information at a glance. Instead going into each app to check your calender and to do's, or the weather forecast is the best way to make sure you notice the graphical prowess of your mobile OS. The more screens you need to dig through to get your info, the better.

Calling WinMO a dated OS is like calling Linux a dated OS. Its an extremely powerful platform, and as things like TouchFLO, HTC Home, or this interface show - it gives you the foundation, tools, and access to build the interface you want. Would you rather an OS that doesn't let you do as you please, which assumes that the narrow scope of what the original designer intended is all you'll ever do.
Enjoy your gilded cage.
