Hold onto your lunch, we're looking at quite the turnaround in fortunes for the PS3 if EA's sales predictions for 2008 hold true. With a
hot new SKU on the shelves, an
unlikely Halo killer, strong market share in Europe and that
profitability milestone crossed, the PS3 is looking at its best shot at greatness since it landed. At least EA and Sony seem to think so. Sony has been
naturally bullish about its latest "10 year life cycle" console, but now EA is jumping on board, predicting the box will sell between 9.5 million and 11.5 million units this year, compared to 6 million to 8 million for Microsoft's Xbox 360. Most of that margin is expected to be found in Europe, to the tune of 5 million or so over the 360. Of course, there's one more factor here: EA predicts between 12 million and 14 million in Wii sales -- better luck next time, guys.

Why doubt them? The've never been wrong before predicting a system's success...oh yah, the wii.
With Sony's track record over the past several years, I think it would be wise not to bet on anything they do.
Blue ray sucks...
I prefer Playstation products and am not a big fan of Halo, but I bought a 360 Elite to match) after purchasing a PS3 b/c of the better game selection. Bioshock and GoW cannot be beat. Well currently at least. But I agree with EA I think PS3 will rise since the PS3 exclusives are coming out this year.
Playstation is a more well known name. Even their Dualshock controller is used a a Videogame symbol for multi-purpose attachments like speakers and cleaners.
Like I stated before I prefer the 360 more, as of now.
It sounds like a lot of people are going PS3 to get a Blu-Ray player.
I say wait.
Wait, because I'm betting when HD-DVD finally, officially calls it quits, Microsoft will sell a Blu-Ray add-on for the 360.
There's NOTHING on the PS3 that intrigues me, game-wise. Most of the Sony exclusives are ass. I could live the rest of my life without ever playing another Metal Gear game. I hate JRPGs. I hate the anime style that Sony tends to cling to. Once GTA IV is out for the 360, and the exclusive content is out there, we'll see a lot of PS3 owners whining that they don't have the cool stuff.
I'll stick with my 360. I might consider a PS3 if there's never a Blu-Ray add-on for the 360, or if I can't find a low cost Blu-Ray player, but I won't be getting into Sony's gaming library even if I do get a PS3. It will just be a glorified Blu-Ray player. For games, it sucks.
Everytime I go to Bestbuy I always feel bad when I see someone buying the HDDVD add-on for the 360. I want to tell them but I don't want to risk getting into an argument.
No offense man but you need to keep with the info. Microsoft and Sony talked about adding a Blu-Ray player to the 360 and the talks broke off with Microsoft saying Blu-Ray will be obsolete in a year and the future of gaming is in downloadable games. Better start buying your extra memory now cause those games are flippin huge.
Call of Duty 4 doesn't count as a Halo killer. The PS3 won't have a Halo killer until it releases an exclusive first person shooter, that plays as well as COD4 or Halo, and sells more than Halo. The only reason why the PS3 could sell more that the 360 this year is because of new exclusive, I mean full exclusives, and people who own 360s willing to adopt ps3s so that they can enjoy both systems.
typo?
PS3 is only worthwhile for the Blu Ray at the moment. I'll be getting one soon coz I wants BD loveliness.
OK. I'm intrigued. Why would anyone pay $180+ for the HD-DVD add-on for the 360, when you can get a Toshiba stand-alone HD-DVD player for less?
We'll have to see what the future holds.
that's a pretty bold claim.
i really really doubt that will ever happen.
but if it does i'll put my fanboyism aside and buy a ps3
HD DVD is dead PS3 is cheap Blu-ray and they have a game or two for it. everyone that wants the best quality for DVD players will get a PS3 for that reason. Don't compare games there is no PS3 exclusive games.
Ditto.
Specially when Tekken 6, Gran Turismo 5, God Of War III, Final Fantasy XIII and Metal Gear Solid 4 are coming out for the 360 too. Oh wait maybe they are not. Damn I lost it.
Anyway back on topic :Pp
HDDVD is better than Blu-Ray. That is a fact!
Betamax was better than VHS. That is a fact too!
Point made.
Resistance, Warhawk, Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted Drakes Fortune hmmm seems like a good line of exclusive games that all where up for awards at the game awards. I think what you MicroIDIOTS need to do is sit down and actually play a PS3. Both systems have their strengths and weaknesses. If your to ignorant to notice that I'm very scared for your future. I supposed you'd be the one buying a car because it has a nice steering wheel. Open your eyes the only reason the Xbox360 did so well off the bat is cause the technology they used isn't NEXT-GEN. Developers have noted that they have only used about 30% of the power of the PS3 and are still unlocking more. Why do you think PC's and the 360 are so closely linked? Games are easier to make which means that they are closer to there limits than the PS3 is. The safe bet is to buy a PS3 but when the PS3 is going strong 5 years from now and your buying that Xbox720 you'll know this statement to be true.
I guess the PS3 will best the xbox sales this year due to the fact that i already have a 360. I actually plan to buy a PS3 now that own an Xbox. I purchased the console that i really wanted first.
Everyone has an Xbox 360 now. What else is out there to buy. a wii? :)
People are idiots and your close to the edge. People owned and bought multiple PS2's even when the Xbox came out some went out and bought a Xbox. Did that make the PS2 a superior system? What kind of logic are you using? And no not everyone went and bought their systems yet, I have 3 friends that have played both systems and are going to purchase a PS3. They all wanted an HDTV first. Now with the money the government is handing out there joining the PS3 team. Admittedly the 360 has some strong points but the PS3 doesn't lag that far behind and when you ask any developer which system has the most upside left, they will tell you the PS3. Cause they can already see the light at the end of the tunnel for 360 while they are still exploring how much further the Ps3 will go.
i just did an article about this on my blog blog.myspace.com/dxne my opinion is that the playstation3 will stay at a low until an early playstation4 release repeating the dreamcast effect causing it to be downgraded to a third party development like sega go and read it thanks

Hey,
I am kinda confused. I keep hearing people talking about the 360 coming out with a Blu-ray Add-on… that is ridiculous. Blu-ray is made by Sony. I don’t think that Sony would allow this. Also has anyone looked at the 08 line-up for the PS3 vs 360?
Home - A FREE Equivalent to Xbox Live plus a 3D world.
Resistance 2 – 60 player deathmatches
Killzone 2
Gears of War 2 – Yeah that’s right! Its Official!
Little Big Planet
God of War III
Prototype
Gran Turismo 5
Haze
Final Fantasy XIII
Tekken 6
SOCOM: Confrontation
Tomb Raider
Metal Gear Solid 4 – Also this is a Sony exclusive. Xbox will never see the MGS series.
I honestly can say that I am happy to own a PS3 and I cant wait to see what 2008 brings us all.
Gears of war 2??
I think this is a possibility as it is possible the Xbox 360 is meeting its saturation point or close to it. Whereas the PS3 with some better titles coming out has much more room to grow. I still don't think anything will touch the Wii until probably 2009.

there's one of the points that i rarely see mentioned. this is where ps2 blew xbox original out of the water, and most likely what will help the ps3 blow the 360 out of the water before all is said and done. couple years in and 360 has done all it's going to do. reached its saturation point. just like the original xbox did. as opposed to ps2 which kept getting better and better and better, staking its claim as best console ever. years down the road and ps3 (like its predecessor) is going to just keep evolving and growing. THAT is what makes the playstation name so noteworthy. cause even now while the original xbox is gone and forgotten (and 360 is reaching its peak), ps2 is still selling as much as the others. right up there with ps3. why? because playstation is made to evolve. i think the recent numbers were something like ps3 selling something in the ballpark of 260,000 units in january (just below wii and just above 360) and the ps2 was selling like 240,000 or something like that. which brings me to my next point that people seem to overlook as well. why are all these ps2 selling? aren't these people going to upgrade to the next-gen? and the question to that is yes. we're just in the infant years of this next-gen. and unless you're a hardcore gamer, most wait til a couple years in to really start making that transition. with prices high and whatnot, many are holding back before upgrading (hence the ps2 numbers) and when all those ps2 owners do upgrade, where do you think they're going? i can't even begin to tell you how many friends i have that are still back on ps2 (i've already upgraded myself), and what are they doing? waiting til the next-gen is more 'mainstream' then they're jumping right up to ps3. call it what you will but sony has a loyal fanbase, because they make shit proper. so give it a couple years, watch how those ps2 numbers transition over to the ps3, raising its numbers above the competition (most likely the wii as well, once the party/novelty appeal of it wears off). i think someone said "this is a marathon, not a sprint" and that's completely right. ps2 proved that. but microsoft just doesn't get that. and sony knows ALL TOO WELL how to run that marathon.
another point to make: i keep hearing all this "right now....blah blah blah" "at the moment blah blah blah" "right now this. right now that". lol live it up while ya'll can. cause "right now" doesn't mean shit. something like gaming consoles at this level are investments, and in a couple years time, we'll see what the better investment was. i have no hesistation in saying that will be playstation. but also (the point to be made) is that 360 had a year jumpstart on ps3. so it's hardly fair to compare today's ps3 to today's 360. if anything, compare today's ps3 to last february's 360. that's where a more valid comparison is made. of course xbox has a more extensive library RIGHT NOW, they've been out a full year longer. of course they have a bigger foundation set RIGHT NOW, they've had more time.
compare ps3 progress to this point to the progress of 360 in the same amount of time (last year) and the ps3 is already beating the 360.
anyways, enjoy the 360 while ya'll can. in the long run it won't be able to even begin to compare.
and call it fanboyism or whatever you kids like. but plain and simple it's just being real. i mean i'm all for xbox being successful as it creates competition and competition is always good for consumers. but to think the 360 stands a chance is almost delusional i think. the analogy is really this: xbox360 was just the lucky pony that got a real good burst out of the starting gate and has a lead. but already it's reached its peak and is losing it's oomph, and we've yet to even come to the first bend.
Matt makes a point i thought about before as well. and maybe i'm wrong here and don't know the full details of ownership and property rights or whatnot. but i was under the impression that Sony (along with Pioneer) created Blu-ray thus own the patents to all of it (though letting a few others, ie samsung, philips, hitachi, etc get in and get a piece of the pie). But Sony being the one that was sitting at the top of the totem pole undeniably (well technically bottom of the totem pole if you want to be exact about it----kudos to those that actually get that). Anyways, like Matt i'm curious if Xbox will even be allowed a blu-ray. or if so, at what price? i don't exactly see sony just letting them get in on it to incorporate into their competing gaming system. or will xbox not go "blu-ray" (not being able to use the name) and just go some blu-ray knock-off? (not beneath gates to 'steal' technology is it lol)
then again maybe i'm just completely wrong on the whole ownership and rights situation behind blu-ray.
all you xbox360 fans the films you down load to your hard drive are only in 720p not full 1080p hd like the ps3 IM GETTING AND IT IS BETTER as its full 1080p pay back on all blu ray films and for the top dog on 360 its £269 with no games and ps3 is £299 so why get a xbox with no blu ray got to be mad so im getting the better 1 and all u xbox fans only say its better cos u got 1
