Eizo lets loose 30-inch CG301W monitor with hardware calibration
Eizo first let out word about this one last fall, but it looks like the company's just now gotten around to formally introducing its latest 30-inch display, with the CG301W making its debut at the big PMA show in Las Vegas. Among other things, this one boasts hardware calibration for those not willing to take any chances, and an impressive 97% reproduction of the Adobe RGB color space. Other specs are similarly high-end, including a 2560 x 1600 resolution, dual DVI-D inputs for hooking up two computers (with a picture-in-picture function to boot), and Eizo's Application Specific Integrated Circuit (or ASIC), which promises to work all sorts of magic to deliver the best image possible. No word on a price, but given that Eizo's non-hardware calibrated 30-incher demands a hefty $2,555, it may be best not to ask.

I have several Eizo products and I must say they are truely worth more. Of course, this is a premium product and if it wasn;t for teh fact I am an artist in production, I could get away with other options.

Eizo does make incredible color precise LCD's. Can't go wrong.
steve ballmer @ Feb 4th 2008 3:42PM
Gotta buy a doven more for the den!
steve ballmer @ Feb 4th 2008 3:44PM
Already got 3!
Technex @ Feb 4th 2008 3:47PM
Man that looks nice, I bet it does look awesome in real life!
Ted @ Feb 4th 2008 3:55PM
Nice, but if you're just a casual user I would think that the Dell 3008FPW would be better since it's also got HDMI, DisplayPort, Component, Composite on top of the dual DVI-D...
Dustin @ Feb 4th 2008 4:02PM
I'd say that's most definitely true. The Eizo will be very important for digital pre-press, design, photography or other color-critical uses. I don't imagine I'd be playing Crysis on the Eizo, thinking to myself, "Man, the Adobe gamut really makes a difference! And the detail I see in the shadows makes the game playable."
Ted @ Feb 5th 2008 11:15AM
Although it says on the site for Dell 3008 that it "can support up to Adobe 98 colour standard."
Is that the same thing as Adobe gamut?
Eh @ Feb 4th 2008 4:06PM
I would hate using one of those at work, since every time I come home it would make my current monitor which is on the higher end of consumer LCD's feel like a piece of crap.
David @ Feb 4th 2008 4:26PM
That would be nice to have for my PC.
michaelportent @ Feb 4th 2008 4:56PM
I'll just take an Apple 30" cinematic at 2560 x 1600 for $1799 and call it a day.
Hung @ Feb 4th 2008 5:33PM
I'd rather get an HP LP3065 for $1,400; Samsung 305T for $1,300; or Dell 3007WFP-HC for $1,200 and have some money leftover to buy some long DVI cords to use my monitors on any computer I wanted to, Mac or PC.
Maybe I'd get three 24" Westinghouse L2410NMs and some 8800 GT's in SLI.
Probably not though. 900 hot dogs, 799 double cheese burgers, and $100 cab ride to the ER for the win.
SteveMB @ Feb 4th 2008 5:43PM
Haha, no. Apple Cinema Displays have numerous problems with them, but Apple will not admit that problem.
Steve @ Feb 4th 2008 5:50PM
@SteveMB
Such as??
SteveMB @ Feb 4th 2008 7:15PM
The "pink" screen problem, and displays just failing.

Say something positive about Apple and the trolls will low rank you. I agree with you by the way.
@SteveMB At work I am currently using 2 Apple displays (23" & 30") that I have been for well over a year, for 10 hours a day and I have yet to have even the slightest problem. At home, I have had the same 20" Apple display since 2002, use it extensively, and not a single problem. As a matter of fact, I have been using Apple displays for the last 15 years, and can not recall any issues. The 21" blue and white CRT is not only still in use somewhere else, but still spot on - and that one was bought 10 years ago. I think the biggest problem you find with Apple displays is the little Apple logo on it.
SteveMB @ Feb 5th 2008 5:52PM
Skeezle, I'm happy to hear that your 23" and 30" are OK. You're one of the lucky few to NOT have a problem. I am talking about the newer models (aluminum ones). I have a 23" ACD, and have had nothing but problems with it.
Hung @ Feb 5th 2008 6:02PM
@ Skeezle
Fuck you Skeezle; don't call me a goddamn troll.
The reason you don't see anything wrong with your Apple displays is because you have been using nothing but Apple displays for the last 15 years (heard of the Light and the Cave parable by Plato; totally applies here). How about you listen to someone who's trying to save a few bucks instead of assuming that he's trying to superficially trashing a product.
I have no problem with Apple and Mac products, but I'll devour trolls (like you) who don't listen to reason, and shit out their red hats.
Hung @ Feb 5th 2008 6:06PM
@ Skeezle
Rereading my comment, I noticed a tinge of overly inappropriate anger.
This isn't an apology. I was just pointing it out in case you didn't recognize it, you son of a bitch.*
*jk? Still strangers?
Skeezle @ Feb 6th 2008 9:30AM
Again, the monitors I am using are just over a year old, so they are the aluminum displays. And if I am one of the lucky few, why is it that none of the other 11 Apple displays in my workplace have had any issue? If they did, I would be the first one called over to try rectify it. No, there is just a disdain here for Apple, and it is apparent by the ranking system on these boards. One commenter just asked for an example of the 'problems' with Apple displays that you cited, and was low ranked. Then take a look at the hight ranks - they seem pointless. This place is teeming with the pathetic anti-Apple trolls.
Skeezle @ Feb 6th 2008 9:36AM
@ hung
Fuck you you fucking Troll of trolls. Generations of trolls I'm sure. Your parents probably met under the bridge they were refusing to let goats cross.
I've been using a lot more than JUST apple products for the last 15 years, how else do you think I am so aware that Microsoft is garbage.
Oh, was there a tinge of anger im my post - my bad... Yeah, were still strangers - You troll. now go get your fucking shine box...
SteveMB @ Feb 6th 2008 12:36PM
How am I a troll? For saying something that's true? OMG How DARE I say something bad against Apple! Like I said, many owners of the overpriced ACD (such as me) have had problems. Have a nice day.
Hung @ Feb 6th 2008 9:52PM
@ Skeezle
First glance of your response impressed on me the words "Fuck you you fucking Troll of trolls." I prepared to write a near-dissertation on why you are wrong and have no right to say anything of the sort to me.
Then I saw "Your parents probably met under the bridge they were refusing to let goats cross" and "go get your fucking shine box." I lol'd some.
I lost any sensation of anger, though, at "I've been using a lot more than JUST apple products for the last 15 years, how else do you think I am so aware that Microsoft is garbage."
My apologies for omitting the fact that Dell/HP/Westinghouse monitors work only on Microsoft machines. Also, I hope that no one points out the fact Apple STILL uses superior* LG-manufactured displays from the previous generation, unlike Dell's preference for current-gen displays (unconfirmed for HP). Aside from sporting higher price tags, worse dead pixel policies, and only DVI connctions, Cinema HD Displays pretty much have everything going for them.*
* = /sarcasm, intended to appear both ironic and biting.
P.S. Though it'll appear obvious to anyone reading our heavily one-sided debate, I'll give it to you straight. You're a troll who's bashing Microsoft (randomly and unprovoked, I might add) and in denial that several companies could release products both better and cheaper than Apple's. Aside from brand loyalty, physical design fixation, and troll-like behavior, you have no reason to prefer Apple displays over other equally well-built and lower costing monitors.
P.P.S. I really did laugh—note: modestly—at your two troll comments. Hiyooooooo!
