HP Pavilion tx2000 tablet goes on sale
It's a little late, but it looks like the HP is finally ready to take your money and hand over a tx2000 tablet. Nothing really new to report specs- or price-wise: $1,299 buys you a 2.1GHz AMD Turion, 2GB of RAM, GeForce Go 6150, 160GB disk, LightScribe dual-layer burner and a fingerprint reader, while $2,311 bumps you up to a 2.2GHz Turion, 250GB disk, Verizon 3G ExpressCard, and Vista Ultimate. And, of course, that 12.1-inch touchscreen that "has a digitizer!" Not a bad deal, actually -- anyone going to take the plunge?

Maybe this will be like the tx1000z, but actually FREAKING WORK!

I just got a tx1000 for school with my college discount. I love it much more than the previous gateway tablet I had. I kinda miss the digitizer function, but I got my tx1000 at the same specs as the base tx2000 and only payed $800. I'm not about to drop $400 for a digitizer screen.
Where do you get your discount?
I bought the 2000, the touch screen seems to work great. I didn't upgrade vista or the ram through HP. But i did then upgrade to vista ultimate and bought 4g's of ram through kingston (saving lotsa mula!) I'm still not a huge fan of vista, but in general the computer seems to run fairly quick. I went for the 2.4 right away on the processor. But in the next 24 hours this thing is getting overhauled with programs including full adobe, office, sql, crystal, oracle and a few other things for programming.... so we'll see how it does!
does the size of the battery make it awkward when using it as a tablet?.. nd how is it running now that you've added all those programs.. thx..
I just bought mine using a $400 coupon found on dealdigg (I think?). any ways, can't wait for it to come. I first bought a Tx1000z using coupon code GOTAPEX1, but at the end of the day I could get the same laptop (sans 1 Gb of Ram) for $50 more.
so i really wanna get the tx2000, but i hate how the battery is ginormous and sits awkwardly on the back.. im thinking this might make it a bit awkward when using it as a tablet nd taking notes in class.. has anyone used this already and know whether the size of the battery interferes? thx..
Actually the ginormous battery hanging off makes a handy "handle" whilst using the tablet while standing up.
I have a TX1000, and right now I'm having more problems with it than any other TX1000 user I'm sure. In fact, the unit is going back to HP for servicing cause six months later I realize my digitizer has been damaged the entire time. (It suffers serious vectoring problems, like every 30 seconds.)
For the $1300 Canadian I was willing to take the risk with the TX1000 -- I almost returned it the next day, but instead wound up upgrading to the 2GB model in hopes of better performance.
I was very much against Vista... but I did not think about downgrading the OS to XP because I would have to learn to use Vista sooner or later. Anyways, I did all the Vista hacks including switching off Aero.
Outside of the seriously skipping digitizer -- this machine is a freaking beast. Vista positively SMOKES on it and is rock solid.
The convertable format and the overall look of the machine draws so much attention, and this thing is definately a public transportation status symbol.
The build quality I am not at all crazy about--- I put doublesided tape to hold the battery from ominously twisting and I also put rubber pads on the palm rests because when the unit is in slate mode the screens wobbles most disturbingly. Easily solved.
Again, to get your feet wet in the tablet department for less than $2000 -- the HP tx1000 is/was a steal.
Do I wish I had waited six months for the TX2000? Can't say for sure. As a programmer/IT guy/artist/hacker type person, I must say that I learned quite a bit about the general future of interfaces!
I will be happy just to get the vectoring problem fixed on my TX1000.

I've had a tc4200 for about 3 years now and just ordered the tx2000z. Let's hope the new one serves me as long.
I now own a Tx2115 and I must say... my husband is astonished that I'm not sleeping with it. :D It's the most wonderful little tablet that does more than I thought it could do... including running Photoshop CS3 with a file that's a gig in size without complaining. My one year old pavilion desktop with 3 gigs of RAM complains. I'm almost considering trading in my desktop for a stack of external hard drives. :D
