Official: Vista SP1 released to manufacturing -- headed your way... in March
We've been hearing rumors all morning that Microsoft would release Vista SP1 this week. Now, according to Reuters, Microsoft has just sent Vista SP1 to manufacturing. In the same presentation to investors, Steve Ballmer said that Microsoft has released Windows Server 2008 to manufacturing as well. However, the server software won't formally launch until February 27th. Now we're just waiting for the SP1 download link and/or Windows Update package. Twiddle, twiddle... ah hell, we'll just update you when we get it -- this could take a few days.Update: Hands off the F5 key kids, Microsoft says SP1 won't be available to customers until March, starting with Microsoft Volume Licensing customers. Server 2008 will be available for purchase on March 1st.

It has to be manufactured? Would be nice to have in downloadable form.
Maybe it's a hardware upgrade?
What's this Vista SP1 you talk of. I am only interested in XP SP3!
Yeah bring on the SP3 Goodness!!!!!
Server 2k8 is on MSDN!

wished it happened earlier.
maybe i am just stupid, but what exactly is windows server 2008?
@techieguru16
Google it, then google "tech(ie)" and "guru" while you're at it.
I don't understand why it would take six weeks to get the downloads working. I can understand the desire to hold off on the Automatic Windows Update push, but seems to me that the tech savvy and all the system administrators who know what they are doing should be given manual download access immediately.
And it will be released as a torrent in early February.
While it's damn stupid of Microsoft to wait until March to release the service pack, at least we can rest easy knowing it'll be leaked and on Bittorrent within the next couple days.
I'm looking forward to seeing if this is going to fix Vista enough for me to upgrade again. Doubtful, but we'll see.
whats going on Engadget? I submitted this piece, now where is my glory?!
Yeah, great. It's "gold" today, but will be 6 weeks stale before we get it. Yet another reason to continue avoiding Vista.
The real question is, where is XP SP3?
It probably went gold today but you won't see it for 6 more weeks. You better uninstall XP.
hmmm i bet there adding extra stuff for home users......like yahoo messenger, jk
Microsoft!
Anyone know what the final build it? Some people are saying it's 6001.18000.080118-1840 while others are saying it's
6001.18000.080126-2040.
I've been running Service Pack 3 for months, someone posted a simple registry hack to download the developer version....I've enjoyed it...I believe a simple google search can turn it up, if not I have a batch file with the command saved in it and can repost it
I tried the beta of Vista SP1 and if youre using the paradox or timestopper crack it's going to screw up your activation!!
youll have to system restore to remedy the situation and then refuse to install sp1, maybe something will come out in the future.
***i am not condoning the use of pirated software, this is purely informational***
you know it's really easy to keep your activation just look for the BIOS emulation crack worked for me and I've upgraded my Vista to SP1 4 days ago
too many retards complaining about vista :)
Finished downloading and installing Vista. All is done...
The bootup is faster on my machine now. IE, Office 2007, and many other apps boots up noticably quicker. I went to the "Welcome Center" and tried to click on "more details about my computer", and the rating system is gone. I have 4GB on my system, only about 3.2GB shows up (32bit?), and it gave my system a score of 2.0 (2.0 being the lowest). This is no longer the case since the rating system is removed in SP1.
I just installed Vista 2 days ago to test it out on my old PC, waiting for my Mac Pro (with 8800 GT) to arrive, and it looks like I will be intalling Vista on it when it comes.
WoW also received a FPS improvement.
In addition,
all Office 2007 apps starts up much faster than before,
Eclipse (for Java) runs faster.
Adobe Reader launches much more quicklier.

I did the full vista 64 sp1 install last night, took an hour, still testing and all is well so far...
