N-Gage First Access hacked for N95 8GB, others

That didn't take long. A mere day after the release of Nokia's N-Gage First Access gaming preview exclusively to N81 users, the app has been cracked open to work with any N-series device with enough horsepower. The hack was performed by Nokia regular P@sco, and comes in a convenient downloadable form, or an only slightly involved guide to hacking the app yourself. No rocket science here, and while we're sure Nokia could easily fight back, what we've really got to ask ourselves is why didn't Nokia just open it to everyone in the first place?

According to the Nokia release here: http://www.n-gage.com/community/news_FirstAccess.html , First Access is only part of the development process; just a pre-release version. So it's kind of limited beta testing only.

I just installed it on my N80, didn't have too much time to play with it...but it didn't take up the whole screen. I probably gotta go to the settings somewhere to fix that, but as for overall performance...it ran pretty well. Now I just need to get some games, and see how well those run.

I installed it last night on my N95. Found the n-gage program itself rather sluggish, the whole experience not very intuitive, and not very well integrated. The game icon appears on several tabs, but takes you to the actual game in only one. Also, network play did not seem to work when I tried...Perhaps because this is a beta?

Having purposefully never gone anywhere near an N-Gage, I'm a little shocked to see how blatantly it's ripping off the Xbox Live Gamer Card.

Glad you put in the first half of your sentence. Just goes to show how ignorance on your part brings out a garbled conclusion.

The N-Gage Arena and it's online features were there long before X-Box Live (Gamer Card). This is just a revised look. MS copied the concept from the Finnish masters for their customers. Not the other way.

I was able to install it on my E65 with lots of compatibility warnings, register a user, download games, but not actually play them, so I am quite sad.

Tried it on my N95 8GB and it is sluggish but it was great to try it out. I'm eager for the full version and will probably purchase a game or two.

n-gage won't work properly on N81 or E65 due to incompatible screen resolution. I wouldn't say it's sluggish on N95 - quite the opposite. And a game icon appears on several tabs for a purpose.

ive got it working fine on my n95 but the games are crap compared to the videos ive seen on youtube etc. why dont they just release the proper games making full use of the 3d accelorater and puttin the games into action. i dont care about people with the old nokias that are like "wens it coming out for our fone" get a new fone is wt i say. and im just sick of waiting tbh. i dont want it in drips and drabs
