Evergreen's Genius Navigator 365 mouse, for idiots
Evergreen's testing the limits of convergence this morning with their new ¥3,499 ($33) Genius Navigator 365 mouse. It's a 1600/800dpi laser mouse and you guessed it, a gamepad all wrapped up in a single package. Neither of which we suspect works as well as a pair of dedicated devices. Look, we may not approve of your choice for this mouse, but we'll fight to the death for your right to choose it. Ok, maybe not this time.

What's so wrong about it? It looks like a good option for a laptop.... have to use the laptop's keyboard at uncomfortable angles for some "while mom talks with her ol' friends" gaming in another city == no more.
You have to carry a mini-mouse anyway, or I don't know you, but I find the trackpads pretty annoying...
Oh, and that doesn't look so uncomfortable as a mouse... at least not relative to mini-mouses, full desktop ergonomic mouses are another story....
Engadget has been extremely cynical lately.
*lol* Mini mieces make me die a little inside. When I bring my laptop places, I bring a full sized mouse. ^_^
i don't see the point. what's wrong? that thing's selling well around where I live
TURBO!
Yeah! i dont see how is this device bad at all, pretty handy for those NES Laptop playing moments...
Well maybe Thomas is just jealous cuz he bought his Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 7000 instead.
Nah i dont believe that either.
Whatever i dig the little sh!t.
arrested development ftw.
What's so bad about it? I think it looks pretty neat. If it ever comes to the UK, I'll probably get one.
I could use a mouse / gamepad combo. If nothing else Engadget shouldn't be slamming innovation.
Could look a little slicker.
I don't see why it would have to function so badly, considering just how little meat there actually is in many mice and gamepads. Sure, it won't replace a really good mouse and gamepad, but I personally don't have ANY gamepads.
Hell, I don't see why THIS is suddenly pushing the boundaries of convergence compared to the bloody numpad mouse!
Who are you calling an idiot? :)
It would be cool if by closing the mouse it closes the game too. Perfect boss key.
I'd buy it. (If I had a laptop)
wouldnt u accidentaly click the mouse buttons with ur right hand? w/e
it could be worse (or better) :)
Actually, their website says that the mouse functions don't work while the thing's opened up as a gamepad, so I guess you wouldn't have to worry about that at all!
i like it
If it was wireless, I'd be in heaven right now... it looks perfect for some NES or even a little SNES if you can live with those 5 and 6 buttons as your L and R. Make a wireless one, and I'll be first in line.
Seems kind of cool, if I was buying a laptop mouse and wanted to play a few emulators on the go it would be perfect. Whats the problem?
if you goto the site, it actually shows that there really are L and R shoulder buttons, their just alittle tiny
Please define, "idiot" in Engadget Terms, you cynical bastard.
Many Thanks!
they could add a thumb button that turns into SNES style R and L buttuns when open, i'd be all about it for laptop snes emulation.
might not be the prettiest thing ever, but i've seen mice that were uglier without any excuse.
*buttons
Thomas Ricker again you prove yourself to us that you truly are the one who's the idiot here. You keep this up and your IQ level may fall as low as the US president's IQ, and that is quite a hard thing to accomplish.
Check the Read link. It seems that there *ARE* L and R buttons! Especially in the third and fourth pictures.
Where can this be bought?
I must say I agree with most of the posters here.
This thing looks great! I have nes and snes emulators and I'd LOVE something like this.
If this was in the U.S. market, I would definately buy this.
Why didn't someone think of this earlier?
Slap on wireless, and I'd pay upwards of $50 as well.
Lighten up, Engadget. You're supposed to ENCOURAGE innovation and new ideas....not stifle it.
The Voltaire-inspired quote at the end was pretty awesome.
Unfortunately, the mouse kinda sucks.
Don't be too quick to judge Engadget...their Genius line is amazing value.
Case in point:
8x6" Genius Tablet w/Mouse - $59.99
5.5x4 Wacom Tablet - $139.99
In Canada...I've tried both and bought the Genius one because it worked just as good.
Would not be surpised if this is an awesome device in both ways.
It would be sexy if it swiveled rather than flipped.
or both.
