There comes the time in every young person's life where they decide to graduate from the
microwave to the stove. And fail miserably. Now instead of retreating dejectedly back to the kitchen microwave, where the rest of the appliances can point and make fun, you can hide your shame with the iWave Cube. The little microwave measures one cubic foot (about the size of a Kleenex box), and weighs just 12 pounds. Unfortunately, you'll still need to plug it in, so there's a limit to how far you can run. The iWave Cube comes in black, red or silver, and retails for $130.

I remember iwave. They made one of the first pda's to run the intel belvedere chip. It's sad to see them go from that to microwaves.
Gremlin @ Feb 9th 2008 11:26PM
So by "portable," they mean "not really all that portable."
quomen @ Feb 10th 2008 1:36AM
Yeah.. It's just as portable as the XPS 2010.
Blackstar @ Feb 10th 2008 5:28PM
Next Apple© will release a "iWave Air™."
The portable microwave that is only 3 pounds, less than one inch thin, can't accommodate any food except tortillas, and has no buttons on it so you have to set the microwave time wirelessly on another computer.
Numetheus @ Feb 11th 2008 1:53AM
Gotta love how some people confuse the terms portable with mobile. Portable just means you can port it around easily. You know ... Move it. Port-able meaning able to be ported. Absolutely nowhere does that mean "usable while on the move". I used to have a portable tv back in the day that was just small and had a handle. You still had to plug it in. Mobile means you can use it on the go.
This microwave seems very portable to me. It just does not seem like a mobile device. Another example ... Do a search for portable carpet cleaning equipment. Tons of those and absolutely all of them need to be plugged in. The definition of portable does not change just because its posted in a tech blog.

inc Apple lawyer attack?
w00t @ Feb 10th 2008 3:29AM
Apple does not own lowercase letter i...
No, not even at the start of a word!
SPARTEN II @ Feb 9th 2008 11:38PM
I saw one of those at Sharper Image about a week ago.
Anthony H. @ Feb 9th 2008 11:54PM
Why?
Ryan Trevisol @ Feb 10th 2008 12:05AM
A kleenex box? Aparently:
1) I am unfmailiar with exactly how large kleenex boxes are.
2) That won't be able to microwave anything larger than a cup of coffee.
Either way I'm confused.
Michael Nelson @ Feb 10th 2008 12:12AM
Yeah, a cubic foot Kleenex box would be a pretty big Kleenex box. For a closer comparison, a standard sheet of paper is 11 inches tall.
John @ Feb 10th 2008 4:30AM
Yes, coffee, a cup of soup and very, very small cheese crisps.
LesbianHam @ Feb 10th 2008 8:28AM
Or maybe the volume of the inside is the size of a kleenex box? (what you can microwave)
Tomahawk @ Feb 10th 2008 9:03AM
Or possibly a "Hot Pocket"
nh @ Feb 10th 2008 12:44PM
Michael you're only confusing things with your paper comparison, it's 11 inches for a start, and really thin.
This is the best I can think of for all the people who don't know how big a foot is but do know, or can find out, how big a Kleenex box is:
As big as a stack of Mansize Kleenex boxes, 2 wide and 5 tall.
And it weighs as much as a large newborn baby.
Steve @ Feb 10th 2008 12:07AM
I think it is a lovely design.
Wormbolt @ Feb 10th 2008 12:13AM
If it comes with a car adapter, I'm set.
holycow @ Feb 10th 2008 12:35AM
Fresh snacks (popcorns, pizza pops) while on a roadtrip! ... brilliant... i hope it has one.
Mike10010100 @ Feb 10th 2008 10:30AM
Just get a 25 buck inverter at an electronics shop.
kr @ Feb 10th 2008 12:36PM
Unfortunately, most microwaves draw more power than outlets in most cars can support...I wonder how much wattage this requires...
Sabah @ Feb 10th 2008 12:36AM
Make that May 2006!
Sabah @ Feb 10th 2008 12:37AM
I already coined the 'iWave' back in May 2007 :)

how is 10" x 10.5" x 12" the size of a kleenex box? oh, right. this is the same guy who doesn't know the difference between a kilowatt and a kilowatt-hour.
Fruition @ Feb 10th 2008 1:19AM
This obsession with the i- prefix needs to stop.
Remember when the i used to stand for something? Like on the original iMac, when it stood for "Internet"?
Natedog @ Feb 10th 2008 1:31AM
Are we sure the microwave doesn't have a browser?
But yeah, I totally agree with you. Companies instantly lose all credibility with me the moment I see that i.
nh @ Feb 10th 2008 12:44PM
Oh yes... I had forgotten but you have just reignited the burning rage I used to feel at the sacrilege of using a lower case i to represent Internet.
Steele @ Feb 10th 2008 1:24AM
great writing, horrible product
Ratteler @ Feb 10th 2008 1:41AM
$130 is a little expensive for a Hackintosh case.
Ed @ Feb 10th 2008 1:42AM
This has to be the stupidest product ever. Not really portable, and extremely overpriced.
The market for it has to be for the Eric Cartman's that are so fucking lazy playing Ragnarok, that they cannot get up to nuke their hotpockets.
Taylor Kemp @ Feb 10th 2008 2:00AM
Aww, no usb powered version? I wanto to stick my laptp in the microwave and have it cook itself with its own usb power!!!
Joe @ Feb 10th 2008 2:15AM
A Kleenex box that's a cubic foot big? Is the writer of this post the Jolly Green Giant by any chance?
SteveMB @ Feb 10th 2008 2:51AM
So it's the weight of a Clevo laptop...
bah @ Feb 10th 2008 3:20AM
this would be awesome for a camera truck/grip truck.
"hey, can you go over to crafty and get me something?"
"all the way to crafty? why bother? behold, pizza bagels!"
i await the three of you who know what I'm talking about to agree with me. i'm so sold.
sithigh @ Feb 10th 2008 3:25AM
Inside construction workers have been transporting any old microwave onto the building sites for several years. The bigger and cheaper, the better. Especially the high wattage models. Fifty pound models are a bit much, but then we have trucks and cars that aren't usually able to supply 1000 watts at 120 volts. I would likely need a 200 pound battery.
David @ Feb 10th 2008 3:32AM
I would have called it the portanuke.
madchad @ Feb 10th 2008 3:33AM
I'm very sick right now, and happen to have a box of kleenex with me. Kleenex box = 203 cubic inches. A cubic foot is 1728 cubic inches. So you can fit about 8.5 boxes of Kleenex into a cubic foot. Maybe people shouldn't drink and blog.
Francois @ Feb 10th 2008 3:56AM
When i look at that logo, i read "wave icube". fantastic design.....
Tits @ Feb 10th 2008 5:35AM
Apple Appliance!
lightbulb42 @ Feb 10th 2008 6:37AM
So I don't see any spec's on this thing. Is it 10 watts? 100? 1000?

a breifcase for your wife!
Mike @ Feb 10th 2008 7:14AM
How can we trust the "blogging media" when they don't even know what a cubic foot is?

Natedog @ Feb 10th 2008 11:35AM
Your avatar awakened weird, mixed feelings within me.
Nemo Throng @ Feb 10th 2008 11:25AM
That's one big Kleenex box!!!
Rhea @ Feb 10th 2008 11:50AM
I like the look of this microwave. I am almost tempted to get one. Except I think that one day we are going to learn that regular microwave use bends your chromosomes or something. I don't own a microwave.
HOOPER @ Feb 10th 2008 12:58PM
My chromosomes are bent anyway, so I have no problems with this product.
Tim @ Feb 10th 2008 11:52AM
How long until there is a skype application for it?
