Nikon's S600 rounds out the new Coolpix lineup
We're not sure how it slipped by before, but Nikon's got one more in its new S-series Coolpix cameras, the S600. The 10 megapixel camera bests the recently-announced S550 with a 2.7-inch LCD, 3200 ISO and optical image stabilization, but cuts the zoom to 4x and jacks the price to $299. The camera will be available in March.

I like Nikon. My old film SLR is a Nikon. But I have a hard time taking a camera seriously if it's called "Coolpix." I'm sure it's great, but the name makes it sounds like a kid's camera.
It sounds a lot like the educational drawing software I played with in elementary school: Kid Pix.
I'm not how, either. ^_^
Crap, you beat me.
Don't feel bad. Think Dits missed the point whole entirely, HOOPER.
Still ain't changed! Yoowie!
I always wanted a cam like that. . .
anyone know if this has face detect? couldn't find any info about it on their site
Hmm...the S550 and S600 are both sedans made by Mercedes-Benz.
Gillette has a razor blade called M3 (BMW). Schick has one named Quattro (Audi). Having references to automobiles in order to attract male buyers is nothing new.
Thats exactly what I was thinking. And they have SLR cameras too.
"We're not how it slipped by before" - Think you missed the word sure out, Paul.
@wslcrew
Correct since only males buy Nikon.
The Fujifilm F20 has a larger CCD than this camera, and the less than $200 Fujifilm camera can take no-flash, low light shots at ISO800 without noise.
10MP with a 2.33 CCD is just pixel packing.
Just another of many with no distinguishing characteristics.
It looks interesting and I really hope it's not neutered.
I have a Coolpix e995 and I love the pictures it takes. It has plenty of options and settings (albeit, it's rather large). I picked up a more compact 5900 and was disappointed with how much it was neutered. It had a nice large sensor but the lack of settings and options really hurt it.
I sold it to a friend for really cheap and picked up an SD700IS. I'm going to wait until HD Photo starts arriving in cameras. It would be nice to have a Nikon alternative that's not an SLR.
Yes face detection up to 12 people at once. And it also has the new actvie child mode meaning you can lock in on someone and once you do they can move and so can you but the camera will auto track and focus them.
