Brushed aluminum feels cheap to you?? This is just a bad picture.
@ Juice: No need for soft keys on keyboard if the UI is designed accordingly. I saw the video on their website and it looks like the softkeys are gonna be touch enabled.
Gizmondo says it comes in Black and Silver. We saw the ad for the Black and the actual photo of the silver. We just need to see the actual black verison :)
I said the same thing about the Democratic Nominees.../Leno without writers
...but seriously, this phone is unbelievable, but probably expensive as hell. If the latter is false, i would buy it without a doubt.
Touchscreen with useable buttons and a full keyboard. We thought such a device would need compromises, such as non-replaceable battery, but SE sure showed the competition that it can be done.
The phone looked so much better in the press shots. But it still does look good. The lighting is what made it look good in the other shots, and I suppose changing the color scheme could help this thing on the looks department. The main thing is the specs, and those look good.
It's funny to me that several posters were comparing photos taken with $30,000 camera and about as much in studio lighting to a photo of a poorly manicured hand holding this phone taken with a $300 digicam. Based on my experience (both taking such photos and looking at them) indicates that the press photo is more true to life. Human brain interprets the visuals in a complex way, and a phone like this with a variety of textures reacting to light in different ways will look more appealing when handled in person rather than when viewed on a poor quality picture in flat lighting. I was waiting for HTC Omni, but this phone has become a serious contender to my HTC Hermes replacement plans.
If it's in a same price range as N95 here in uk it' s a keeper(and why not cheaper). Wasent expecting this from SE maybe from Nokia, but seem they made the device for me thought might have wanted it to have s60. I'll wait for the reviews and run to the shop ;)
Mark my words, this phone will eat HTC's lunch. I just found out what phone I'll be getting next. HTC could have Jesus inside the chip on the next phone and I wouldn't buy another HTC phone after the driver issue.....SE Just bought themselves the entire Tmobile smartphone market with the 1700mHz addition...
Personally, I so hope it has AT LEAST a 3.2Mpx camera... if so, I'll def. consider it over iPhone.
I currently use a Sony Ericsson K800i with 3.2Mpx camera in the field to take product and site pics which I then email back to work. While it works fine, I do need an all in one device that is a bit easier to use than a regular smart fone (ie: the key pad). And no, I don't fancy other alternatives currently out there.

This is obviously a subjective comment: But this does not look very attractive. Also, it looks cheap.
Liam @ Feb 10th 2008 2:38PM
I was about to say this looks really nice. Funny old world...
Backlin @ Feb 10th 2008 2:41PM
Commented seconded. You guys are on top of the Sony stuff.
Chris @ Feb 10th 2008 2:42PM
I'm guessing it is difficult to see the curve from this angle.

Whoops, replied in the wrong place.

Where are the arrow and soft keys on the keyboard? Doh! They forgot.

Looks like the official website pics show an all-black phone, which would look even better IMO
Noah Kravitz @ Feb 10th 2008 2:38PM
Where's the "arc slider" effect?
JAmerican @ Feb 10th 2008 2:39PM
It seems like its not as dramatic as the ad.
Derek @ Feb 10th 2008 2:42PM
I think it is just because of the angle at which this photo is taken...
JAmerican @ Feb 10th 2008 2:39PM
I agree. Those touched up press photos made it look like something it fully is not.

Liam @ Feb 10th 2008 2:50PM
I believe this is usually the case. The only exception I've seen in recent times in the iPod Nano (3rd Gen).
Andrew @ Feb 10th 2008 2:39PM
I agree, it looked nicer in the original news entry, this "in the wild" picture doesn't quite do it for me.
JAmerican @ Feb 10th 2008 2:41PM
Can we get the FCC entry already.
derX @ Feb 10th 2008 2:44PM
Since when does a phone ever look as sexy in wild photos as it does in press photos?
We're gadget geeks here, let's remember how sexy the specs make it coupled with its aesthetics. This phone is still awesome.
Levi @ Feb 10th 2008 2:46PM
Thats the silver option, the photos are mainly of the black one. I'll be taking a black one if any after seeing that picture
JAmerican @ Feb 10th 2008 2:47PM
Levi you beat me too it.

wtf are those X's on the front. They look terrible.
Camperton @ Feb 10th 2008 2:59PM
Okay I get it, there's two function buttons on each 'X'. Still think it's a fugly awkward design.

Why did Sony ruin such a design on Windows Mobile? I thought maybe S60r3 would be nice.
Cesar Cardoso @ Feb 10th 2008 4:00PM
Sony Ericsson WILL make Windows Mobile usable. :D

Especially after the HTC Tilt driver debacle, that device is looking absolutely wonderful.
That is if it has an accelerated graphics chip and the UI is nice and speedy.
