Keepin' it real fake, part CX: Game Joy micro
We've seen a couple fake Game Boy micros in the past, but none of them have been as faithful reproductions as this one here. Sadly, we've got little to go on as far as games or other functions in this "Game Joy micro," but it looks like at least Tetris is a shoo-in, which is really all that matters. Check after the break for a few other gems of fakery.

The Mega Drive II is a fake?! God, part of my childhood was spent in front of that console (with a friend of mine... it was hers, actually)! Oh well, at least original SEGA game would still work on it.
Pentium @ Feb 10th 2008 6:33AM
yeah and to be honest I still miss Mortal Kombat 3 :D
it's not a fake but there is a fake copy of Sega Mega Drive II and its games work on it...u can notice it by only getting it out of its box...I saw it!
tamoghno @ Feb 10th 2008 4:57AM

You know, I think this is the real shame of the intellectual property debacle of the 00's. Not piracy. I mean seriously. Look at the two:
People who pirate music/tv/movies over the internet do so for free. Credit is still given to the actors, directors, musicians, etc. Nobody's out there doing cheesy remakes (the upcoming film Be Kind, Rewind will take a humorous look at what would happen if someone did, though). Plus, they're doing so for free. You've got people using their time, bandwidth, and hard disk space to share this content. I'm not going to say it's a good thing and it's free advertising, but it's not as bad as . . .
These companies who are reproducing (with varying degrees of quality and accuracy) other companies' products. And they're MAKING MONEY with it. This is not just one person's decision to share a movie file with the world, this is a company's decision to reverse-engineer, reproduce, and manufacture a product that shamelessly duplicates another company. These companies hide behind China's lax attitude about this, but here's the kicker. There are a number (not a big number) of people over here (who have access to the real thing) will BUY this CRAP. If I had a dollar for the number of times I read someone say about the Meizu M8 (crappy looking iClone) "If it has two sim slots and SD expandable memory and costs $200 I'll buy one," . . . I'd have about a hundred dollars.
This is the real crime here.

Ryan: Do you know how much sites like TPB make off ads? P2P is a huge industry.
Bernhard @ Feb 10th 2008 5:00AM
That thing's as big as my ds lite
Withad @ Feb 10th 2008 6:30AM
Huh. I have a sudden urge to go play my real Game Boy micro now. Maybe these fakes are good for business.
But what's with the ones in the second pic? Polystation, I can understand, but the Mega Drive II looks pretty authentic. That Smart Computer doesn't exactly look original but I don't think it's a rip-off of anything in particular. And the GameStar is going to get its makers sued by... Commodore?
Asha @ Feb 10th 2008 12:21PM
I'd buy the Game Joy Micro (if it was like $20 or less) just for shits n' giggles. I have one of the Game Boy Micro's too and they are pretty awesome, especially when coupled with a flash drive cartridge.
Ray @ Feb 10th 2008 4:46PM
The Smart Computer box says "Activities" in Activision font.

I am getting sick of: "We've seen XXXXX in the past, but..." please come out with something new...
Zeus.:God @ Feb 10th 2008 7:57AM
Don't like it? TOO BAD.
I and MANY other Engadget readers like seeing today's newest rip-offs.

Anyone wanting to remove stuff like this from tech blogs isn't your friend.

I think he was referring to the hackneyed writing rather than the story subject.
if so, I agree with him.

You got it right Garret
Spartan 1017 @ Feb 10th 2008 11:35AM
Unless I'm missing something pretty obvious, the Mega Drive II was a real machine (at least here in europe). They released a mega cd II to go with it which was side mounted rather than underneath. It was a lot cheaper looking thank the MegaDrive/Genesis and MegaCD but was still a good bit of gear and 100% official.
Is this an obvious Megadrive II clone, or is the posted thinking that the MegaDrive II was a complete fake? as it wasnt!
Jhongerkong @ Feb 10th 2008 11:39AM
Who cares if its fake, it plays tetris!
Chebwa @ Feb 10th 2008 11:46AM
Is that a knockoff of... the Flipstart!?
HOOPER @ Feb 10th 2008 12:48PM
I got a real GameBoy Micro and the R button doesn't work...

These are all real! I just saw all of them yesterday when I went to the store. They even had a POP Player (knock off PSP)
catslovedogs @ Feb 10th 2008 4:30PM
This is a "One Station" and plays propriatary cartridges that have up to 100 NES roms and or GENISIS roms loaded on them! It is avalible to purchase on some popular websites here in the USA and is roughly $25 with one multi cartridge included.
As for how close it is to the GB Micro: I have both and let me tell you its not that close when you are comparing side by side.
GOOGLE IT!

fred @ Feb 10th 2008 6:30PM
catslovedogs is correct, that's a OneStation, just in a box that has a different name.
OneStation's are actually very cool, inexpensive units. Check out dealextreme or other sites. They have a ton of cartridges for them, the NES carts carry up to 99 games on one cart, they have a bunch of old arcade games, plus Sega Master System, SNES, Genesis, etc. carts and emulator carts.
I bought one for my niece two years ago and she still plays it almost everyday.
fred @ Feb 10th 2008 6:35PM
here's the link to deal extreme for the system and accessories. the same exact model in the engadget picture is on the far right top.
http://www.dealextreme.com/products.dx/category.606
there's another page too with over 100 cartridges. if you love the old 80's arcade games, or the old NES games, pick one of these up. It comes with a cart with 99 games on it and the other cartridges run $3-5.

Johnny @ Feb 10th 2008 7:05PM
I wish it was a one station! All this does is play a wonky monochrome version of tetris.
fred @ Feb 10th 2008 9:32PM
If you read the post, Engadget has no idea what it plays, they're basing the Tetris claim from the graphics on the box. A more informed decision, based on the gazillion versions of OneStations out there, is this is just another OneStation with a new name. OneStations have pretty decent color screens, a tad above a Sega Game Gear, and way better than the first few GameBoy flavors.
It's not a Dual Screen, but what you do want for 28-38 bucks? The DS doesn't play as many great old games as the OneStation.
Johnny @ Feb 10th 2008 10:08PM
If you read the post too, you'll see I was the one that sent it in. It is made of feeble plastic and only plays a wonky port of tetris. lick my balls fred.
fred @ Feb 10th 2008 11:00PM
Johnny, I'll lick your balls as soon as your mother gets out of the way.
Johnny @ Feb 11th 2008 3:58AM
So you are both a necrophiliac and gay? awesome! go fred go!
