You know, I think this is the real shame of the intellectual property debacle of the 00's. Not piracy. I mean seriously. Look at the two:
People who pirate music/tv/movies over the internet do so for free. Credit is still given to the actors, directors, musicians, etc. Nobody's out there doing cheesy remakes (the upcoming film Be Kind, Rewind will take a humorous look at what would happen if someone did, though). Plus, they're doing so for free. You've got people using their time, bandwidth, and hard disk space to share this content. I'm not going to say it's a good thing and it's free advertising, but it's not as bad as . . .
These companies who are reproducing (with varying degrees of quality and accuracy) other companies' products. And they're MAKING MONEY with it. This is not just one person's decision to share a movie file with the world, this is a company's decision to reverse-engineer, reproduce, and manufacture a product that shamelessly duplicates another company. These companies hide behind China's lax attitude about this, but here's the kicker. There are a number (not a big number) of people over here (who have access to the real thing) will BUY this CRAP. If I had a dollar for the number of times I read someone say about the Meizu M8 (crappy looking iClone) "If it has two sim slots and SD expandable memory and costs $200 I'll buy one," . . . I'd have about a hundred dollars.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.

This is the real crime here.
