Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1 QWERTY with Windows Mobile and HSUPA
It's here, the XPERIA X1 QWERTY from Sony Ericsson. Yes, full QWERTY to make the most of that Windows Mobile 6 operating system. SE's new XPERIA brand will focus on multimedia and mobile web communication. The X1 then, brings a 3-inch wide VGA (800 x 480) touchscreen display, 3.2 megapixel camera (with photo light), A2DP Bluetooth, aGPS, WiFi, and microSD -- just 400MB on board. On the phone side you've got quad-band GSM/EDGE, and 900/1700/1900/2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (or 850/1700/1900/2100MHz in what must be a US-bound model). Navigation is accomplished via touch, arc-sliding QWERTY, 4-way key and optical joystick. Now just replace that Internet Explorer Mobile browser with Opera Mobile 9.5 or Skyfire and the 110 x 53 x 16.7-mm X1 is ready to live up to its potential. You know, when it ships in "select markets" in the second half of 2008. Full specs posted after the break.

That thing looks awesome. Let me know when you guys have one to give away!
Why can't you let us pick a password instead of making it so difficult to post a freakin comment you guys are supposed to be on the bleeding edge oh well i guess i'll just have to jump back to 1984
Click on your name, or this link, and change the password there:

wow, thats complicated
wow, thats complicated
Even after you've picked your password, sometimes it screws your account up and you will never be able to login again with it. I had to switch to using an alternate e-mail address to get going again. Also, the posting form at the end of each page never changes and it doesn't support logged-in sessions at all. Lame.
SE finally gave up m2 lol..
by the way, does anyone know if this thing does video calling? it has EVERYTHING (agps, wifi, etc), so it'll be odd if it doesnt support it. but i couldnt find the 2nd camera .. hmmmmm
Can't confirm, but video calling is listed in the specs. this also is a clue that more then likely it will end up on AT&T's network.
Hmm, my Tilt is suddenly looking... old.
Is that 1700 umts as in T-Mobile's band?
Yep-- it's the 1700 T-Mobile band.
microSD? is that a typo or has Sony gone mad?
This part made it less impressive for me "Windows Mobile Operating System". still looking good though..!
One more thing, if the hardware is HTC and the software is WM6, where is SE exactly in this?
Does aGPS mean it uses cell tower based GPS ONLY, or is it Satellite + Cell Tower GPS? I like satellite based GPS for hiking out in the middle of nowhere, so this is kinda important to me.
According to Wikipedia, aGPS can be satellite + cell tower OR cell tower only. We will have to wait for more information, I guess.
Well, if this ends up what it looks like(specs and speed) I'M IN!!
I am a proud Nokia N95-3 owner and Symbian OS lover, but i must admit that i was surprisingly impressed with this device.
Thats a hot looking phone...come on SE...don't mess it up!
Er, VGA=640x480, not 800x480, so this is actually bigger than VGA.
The bulge in my pants is coincidentally also bigger.
Being a widescreen, it's WVGA (800x480) -- notice the screen looks taller than normal (4:3) PPCs.
Touch screen?
Only issue I see is that the screen looks like it's tiny.
It is 3" diagonally, but the widescreen ratio skews that a bit, so it won't feel any bigger (probably smaller actually) than 2.8" screens on current phones.
Despite the serious resolution advantage over, say, an iPhone (or most other WM phones), the X1's screen is _much_ smaller than the 3.5" panel in Apple's phone and other (mostly older) PPCs.
Why aren't there any new, fully-featured 3.5" WM phones? (e.g. a successor to the HTC Blue Angel)
ec ec. I love it >:) How much does it cost?
Jesus, the hardware sounds hot. Too bad it runs Windows Mobile.. here's hoping there will be an android version. :)
I'm happy that this will be a Windows device; nothing else I've seen comes close in ease of use and stability.
Wheres the video call camera?? If only it had flash too.
