Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1 QWERTY with Windows Mobile and HSUPA
It's here, the XPERIA X1 QWERTY from Sony Ericsson. Yes, full QWERTY to make the most of that Windows Mobile 6 operating system. SE's new XPERIA brand will focus on multimedia and mobile web communication. The X1 then, brings a 3-inch wide VGA (800 x 480) touchscreen display, 3.2 megapixel camera (with photo light), A2DP Bluetooth, aGPS, WiFi, and microSD -- just 400MB on board. On the phone side you've got quad-band GSM/EDGE, and 900/1700/1900/2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (or 850/1700/1900/2100MHz in what must be a US-bound model). Navigation is accomplished via touch, arc-sliding QWERTY, 4-way key and optical joystick. Now just replace that Internet Explorer Mobile browser with Opera Mobile 9.5 or Skyfire and the 110 x 53 x 16.7-mm X1 is ready to live up to its potential. You know, when it ships in "select markets" in the second half of 2008. Full specs posted after the break.

Everything was great until "Windows 6 Mobile". when will they learn?
No MicroSD support. It uses "Memory Stick SanDisk Micro." Read Sony's website.
omg lets hope verizon gets this so i can get it
Yeah...Verizon or Sprint wont be getting this. Its a GSM phone, not CDMA. Exactly like most SE phones.
So if it's HSUPA and 512MHz and destined for ATT...
where's the facing camera?
buahahahahahah! i doubt this phone will be better than the iphone. And why does it have a physical keyboard rather than a touch screen? can you say backwards!
Actually that makes it better. To make a phone only touchscreen keyboard is backwords. This gives you the option of onscreen type or keyboard type. And when you look at what matters (network speeds, 3rd party, camera, options) it already trumps the iPhone. One word...Skyfire mobile browser. Something the iPhone wont have.
I agree to disagree... what you are forgetting is Apple Inc. probably has the next version of the iphone in the making. Ask yourself how many iPOD versions are on the market. I can count at least 10 from 2001. A company that is always looking towards the future can scare any technology maker. I believe a new iPhone is due mid year. As for software I am sure what ever you mentioned in your reply can be downloaded via Apple Software Update the same way they fix all the bigs and add things to all the devices they make. Keyboards are backwards. Many devices due in the coming years are doing away with the traditional keyboard. Just look at that table that Microsoft has created. If I am not mistaking they have called it a computer as well. I see many functions without the use a static keyboards.
Still not as good as an iPhone though! Go Apple!
Still not as good or as cool as an iPhone!
Go Apple!
Cool phone, but some of this "iPhone pwned" or "take that iPhone" rhetoric is truly breathtaking idiocy. Congrats to SE for making a phone that beats the specs of a device Apple announced 13 months ago and released 7 1/2 months ago!! HURRAH!
Really. It seems like a great phone. It should be, given that someone finally kicked the mobile phone makers in their fat asses. Let's see what the market, and more importantly the device itself, looks like once it actually SHIPS.
"It’s amazing how future [insert company name here] products beat current Apple products time and time again, isn’t it?"
I think it is Apple who has to catch up with the rest Eric. And I am not just talking on the phone. They have been so far behind MS for so long it isn't even funny.
Hope that the screen can be tilted up so much that it will be easy to look at while the phone is laying on a table, like a laptop. On the basis of the pictures, I am afraid that this will not be the case, however. Perhaps SE can modify it before release, after all, because this feature is quite important, for many of us.
It has a arc slider design. When u slide it up its on an arc, so its at a tilt to view easily.
Dave, I hope the screen's tilt / arch slider mechanism will make it possible to tilt the screen high enough so that you can look at the screen in a comfortable angle, while the phone is standing on a table in front of you. Personally, this will be a definite value for this device!
BTW, I have not seen pictures of the screen that show that screen can be tilted enough to place it in a good angle for the above mentioned purpose.
Is this phone going to be build by HTC? They just won a contract to make PDAphone for SOny Ericcson. Will it have the same issues plaguing the current phones.
Does it have an accelerometer, or a quick "flip-screen" key?
WM最高只支持到65K色,屏幕再NB也没用!
The higher resolution absolutely makes a difference.
I own the Tilt, which is a truly enjoyable gadget, but its one big shortcoming is the QVGA screen: it is definitely noticeable since I also have the iPod Touch and its HVGA screen is noticeably sharper and easier to read. Thus, it is likely that VGA on a pocket PC will be even more superior.
I am sticking with the Tilt for now, but will upgrade as soon as something comes along similar to the Xperia, but more established, integrated and supported.

THANKS.
I have had only 1 experience with SE : the k790a. I must say i was terribly disapointed because i only hear good remarks about se. the pictures were crap, the videos were crappyer, the camera button didnt work proprely, my call history didnt keep track of my calls, i had problems connecting my phone to comp via usb,...Oh and dust accumulated inside the camera lens. I called tech support 12 times and only got crap. sent my phone for repair twice (and i should send it again) and same thing.
Now...coming to my point...can anyone tell me if i should hate SE for ever and go with nokia (cuz symbian looks nice)? or i should concider buying this xperia (cuz it looks pretty sweet).
I should remind u guys that I dont have alot of knowledge in cellphones =\.
Thanks for your help
NOOOOOOOOOOO! Not Windows Mobile. I'm so disappointed. That's a deal breaker for me. I'm a big SE fan but WM is not an option.
i got nokia e90 few days back... this looks a lot sexier than it... i dont know y nokia still does not have touch screens in their phones... eagerly waiting for this fone... SE plz make haste and launch this think in India.......
hey what do you make of this?? found it searching on the net http://www.celluloco.com/sony-ericsson-xperia-x1-wi-fi-hsdpa-a2dp-bluetooth-enabled-quadb-pr-1540.html
I have come accross this site saying that X1 is available, http://sonyericssonxperiax1.com/
Can this be true??

y not 5mp?
I loved my T616 and love my current W810i. But the one flaw of all the SE phones that I've seen is the proprietary connector for headphones and USB connection. Carrying around that dongle is totally stupid. Does the X1 perpetuate this design or has SE wised up and put standard audio and USB connections on this phone?
This is going to be well over a $1000, I also saw a new forum being made under x1zone.com
looks like an iphone killer. like the qwerty windows mobile has been my type since ipaq wm 2003, apple isnt my type too much bullshitte like syncing with the itunes crap, i would like full control over my gadgets like the homebrew scene in psp. i understand theres jailbreak for iphone, but isnt iphone not brick recoverable :|
so if this phone packed a good 8 gig built in memory this woulda been a iphone killer for sure!
