Two for the Cyber-shot crowd: Sony Ericsson intros C702 and C902
So that rumored K820 has turned out to be the C902, and that waterproof model? Not so much waterproof -- just "splash and dust resistant" -- and it's the C702. Starting on the bottom, the 3.2 megapixel C702 touts one-handed camera use for those spur-of-the-moment shots when you're doing something, like, totally extreme that would necessitate the use of a splash resistant phone to begin with. GPS also finds its way on board, and Sony Ericsson is bundling Google Maps for Mobile (good call) to get the mapping done. Moving up, the C902 is a 5 megapixel beast with autofocus, face detection, a generous flash, and 160MB of storage before you add anything on with the Memory Stick Micro slot. Both models feature Cyber-shot branding and will be available in the second quarter; they'll come in two versions -- one with UMTS 2100 and one rocking quadband EDGE alone. Look for the C702 in Speed Black and Cyan Blue, while the C902 will do its thing in Swift Black and Luscious Red (pictured).

Thanks, you have now made it an undeniable fact that this exists.

There no xenon flash on these - I don't know what "generous" means in this respect, but an LED doesnt measure up to the standards of a true flash bulb ala the k800,k810 or k850

Problem with xenon flash is that its less durable then LEDs, and the xenon bulb has the risk of being broken; the fact that a phone will probably be see more mixed daily usage then a camera, it is likely to bumped around during daily activity which makes LEDs a much better option for a camera phone (not to mention power consumption).

These phones are nice in their own rights, but when announced on the same day as the XPERIA, it's like two siblings graduating on the same day where one of them is the valedictorian: both are great, but one completely over shadows the other one.
derX @ Feb 10th 2008 2:36PM
Oh yeah, and there's no US 3G love, that's a strike against 'em.
Wonderkid @ Feb 10th 2008 3:14PM
Just watch the video at http://www.xperia.com and then you'll feel good about it all, life, the 'phone', the girl - and the paper planes. But but but, why Windows? Why why why SE did you not go with Android, an updated Symbian - or even a colour version of the outstanding Psion interface - 10 years old and still way ahead of anything today - except the iPhone. Lovely hardware, nice skin, poor insides. Damn!

Oops! Wrong device! I have two windows open and have posted under the C702/C902 page. Sorry guys!

@Wonderkind: your comments are applicable to any of the new SE phones.
I love the hardware of the new SE phones but give me an Android operating system. The open source ecosystem of software apps that will appear for Android will be amazing.

"touts one-handed camera use for those spur-of-the-moment shots when you're doing something"
Um dont pretty much all camera-phones... and any cameras for that matter (besides SLRs) "tout" one-handed camera use????

I need one.
I can't remember just how many times something happens at school.
A school with a 33% population of intellects, and 66% population of emos and wannabe gangsters. Gotta love it.

What do you suppose the difference is between "speed black" and "swift black"?
Screw faster RAM and CPUs, I want a faster... color! Yeah!

I wonder why this page: http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/mobilephones/specifications/c902?cc=us&lc=en makes no mention of GPS at all...?

Here's a review in English with camera shots and a lot of pictures:
