Welcome to the party, guys. Actually, Samsung was already a member of Google's
Open Handset Alliance -- so a welcoming committee really isn't necessary, and it comes as no surprise that the company has now gone on record saying that it wants an
Android phone on the market in early 2009. If anything, it's a little surprising they're waiting so long, considering Samsung's tendency to crank out new models at a largely unrivaled pace -- and also considering that several of the company's existing handsets already include Google functionality of various sorts out of the box.
Switch, anyone?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't all this news stay on engadget mobile?
Also, thank God people are adopting this platform. This will push everyone (which it has already, I guess a la Verizon) to a world of loving openness.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't being-able-to-edit-posts so we avoid double posts be a basic feature?
(Sorry, I couldn't resist)
Nothing wrong with it being in the main Engadget, considering the fact that it's news about (finally) a major handset OEM setting some real information down on the table about when we can finally get a GPhone...
AFAIK Google/Android doesn't require carriers to have open policies. It's open source, so Verizon is theoretically free to build closed modules on top of it that only work on the Verizon network.
I would consider this bad news(at least for me) 10 months is just to long for me to wait. Unless they change their plan and come out with a phone in the next 3 months I'm getting an iphone. I've always bought Samsung phones so this makes me sad.
has verizon officially said it will carry android phones yet?
Great Touch Concept:
