Apple store down -- that time of the month again?
Hmm, not really expecting anything to pop today. But it is Tuesday and those Penryn MacBook Pros are long overdue so let's ride this one out. If anything will be announced, it'll pop at about 08.30 Eastern Time as these things tend to go.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

what is 8:30 Eastern time in central europe? :x ive always been bad at this time thing...
14:30
Engadget time is now 6:30 and central europe time is 12:30 right now so I'm guessing... two hours
2:30pm
ok thnx alot ^_^ (for spamming me) xD
It's really about time sites like this with international readers use GMT/UTC instead of "eastern time" which in my country is GMT+11 with daylight savings at the moment. At least give the option in brackets for GMT.
Thank you!
It's really about time commenters like Brad realize that they're reading an American blog and that the bloggers have the right to use whatever time zone they so please.
Brad can also google "Time in New York" for the current eastern time.
It's commenters like yelohbird that show why we as a whole can't get along.
Brad's suggestion is perfectly good
Why does Apple have to take down the store every time the add some new inventory? Only reason I can see is for hype and marketing like this story here.
yah u answered ur own question.. hype and marketing.. its called business m8 ;)
"hype and marketing like this story here"
Hey it might be for 2gb developer iphones and sdk bundles! ;p
why does Engadget have to report every time the store is down? Just tell us what comes of it.
'Cause Engadget is Apple's lapdog - if Apple's next product is an iButton - a button with only one hole and in order to actually use it you have to send it to Apple for $20 bucks so they make you another hole - Engadget would tout it as a revolution in buttons and a new highmark against which all other buttons are gonna be measured.
Apple does it for the hype.
Engadget does it for the page-views.
.... and you guys fall for it every time.
Pavlov would kill for this set-up!
@patriks7 -- "yah u answered ur own question.. hype and marketing.. its called business m8 ;)"
I hate the way you talk. er... type. whatever.
I hate you.
@jeff
yah wel dats ur problem...
Week 2 - Hopefully its not another shitty update like last week. We need a proper MBP update...
yeah macworld was an utter dissapointment, bring on something beefy!
can i just let you all know, the hot news RSS feed is also down... not sure if this means anything
means they're under ur sea, snipping ur cablez.
In addition to Penryn MBPs, can we please get a Canadian price drop? The base price of the MBP (after education discount) is $1799 US but $1999 CDN. There is an even bigger $300 difference on the 17 inch model.
What can we say? 30gb ipod touches for $499.99? $1999 Penyrns? Overpriced proprietary hardware = the name of the profit game.
I say Software update for ApplwTV + New MacBooks ..
and were only 5 weeks into 2008.
47 to come ~!!!!
hope its the MBPs, dying to get the updated version >
UK store is the same as usual, no back soon or updated macbook pros :(
damn, you're too fast for me.
...but Europe is all open for business, so...
well they could be taking down the US store to make sure their update works on the US store before updating all of the stores
it is only 7:09 AM EST here in Mass... and if engadget thinks that it will show up at 8:30 AM EST .. we have a long time to go
UK store now down...
UK store is up, no sign of anything
$100 price drop for iphone and itouch!
http://www.tuaw.com/2008/02/11/flash-coming-to-iphone/ .... today?
I reckon it's the Apple TV update and maybe the MB Pros...
i looked at the website today, and the TV had a "new" above it. i assumed any changes to the apple TV were already implemented.
Nope not yet, its been like that since Mac World...
I reckon Apples web servers have crashed.
lol the apple web server's saw apples stock and thought it must be trendy
Apple must love you Engadget mugs providing endless news 'stories' and free speculation about their products each time their website goes down for a few minutes.
Instead of acting like over-excited teenagers every time their site closes, you should be ignoring it completely (it's hardly news is it?) or - even better - laughing at the kind of woeful incompetence that makes a major corporate with vast tech resources take their entire site down just to alter a few pages.
But hey! Don't let me interrupt your Mac circle jerk!
Could you imagine what Engadget would say if Dell or some other company took their site down every time they added products? Somehow I don't think the would have the same slant on it.
actually, in australia the new "deals" on dells come out thursday night, and the site is unavailable for a period of time after midnight. i used to watch it when i was looking for a monitor, just to see if the one i wanted came down in price.
I hope it is:
- Aperture 2.0 (how long will we have to wait for that to happen??)
- Apple TV new software (it is about the time in which it should appear)
I think that the Pro line update will be held in a separate event. Too many "pro" things are in desperate need for an update, namely:
- Aperture (where is 2.0)
- MacBook Pro (design is getting older by the day (particularly after the release of the Air))
- Mac Pro (design, but not features, which have recently been refreshed)
- Cinema Displays (don't even get me started on that)
Apple might upgrade some of it's Pro line today, but I honestly doubt they will. Their "pro" line is in such a "bad shape" it actually needs a proper and dedicated event (maybe WWDC, but it is not a place for such things, in my opinion).
The worst thing would be a price drop in iTunes and iPhone, since they would be really subborn (not the word I had in mind, you get the idea) to do the same mistake twice (release a product and drop price days after it has been released).
"Aperture 2.0" - Is that the new version of the Portal gun? they also going to announce they have opened a new Aperture Science Enrichment Center? and GLaDOS X codename Leopardess?
What about Time Capsule? maybe the release of 10.5.2 has added the functionality needed for remote time machine.
i hope it is TC, i've been waiting for ages.
Wrong article.
not really, i meant that the site could be down while they update details for Time Capsule. Of course a MBP upgrade wouldn't go amiss either.
they take the store down because if they make so much as a spelling or editorial error hordes of fanboys and tin-foil hat conspiracy theorists read so much into it that the blogosphere goes nuts.
and besides.. you love it.
I am not sure they should take down the store for a free Apple TV upgrade (wasn't it free?)
I said it last week or was it two weeks ago...Mac Mini update
