Apple releases Aperture 2, no MacBook Pro updates in sight
The Apple Store is back online with Aperture 2 for $199 but little else. While Aperture 2 is certainly a boon to the pro photographers among us, it seems abundantly clear that this Tuesday isn't bringing you a MacBook Pro update, which fills us with great sadness. We were also hoping for that Apple TV (take 2) update to finally hit, or perhaps a MacBook spec bump, but no dice there either. Perhaps this whole "unreasonable optimism" thing is overrated.

Aperture 2 released.
They did take off the coming soon banner on the lower right page of the AppleTv page. I know the main one still says coming soon, but hey, now all they have to do is change one picture.
Aperture 2.0 is new.
Hey guys, Aperture 2 is released!
well someone didn't look closely.
Aperture 2 is the update of the day.
Aperture 2
is Aperture 2 new?
Looks like they updated the refurbished section of the store. Lots of new refurb Macs.
aperture 2.0 is new, the last latest one before this is 1.5 (price drop if I am not wrong...)
Well i went to multiple sources, scoured their site, and even talked to the big man at apple...everything is pointing to Aperture 2! it was a long hard excursion but was worth it.
Nothing to see here move along... unless you a photoer
Are the first 10 comments to this post made by idiots? Let's either repeat the content of the article or ask whether aperture 2 is new, which it obviously is.
I hope you're kidding because otherwise YOU'RE the idiot and you should just go back to chewing on your foot.
The article ORIGINALLY said no new updates.
Assume not young one.
The title before was "Apple store back, no Macbook Pro updates in sight" or something along those lines.
Engadget were wrong then were able to edit their post, not these people (I wish). Mkay?
yeah but... Aperture 2, its new!
Original post as follows:
Apple Store is back, No MacBook Pro update for you
What a tease. The Apple Store is back online with nary an update in sight. If you see something let us know, but it seems abundantly clear that this Tuesday isn't bringing you a MacBook Pro update. We were also hoping for that Apple TV (take 2) update to finally hit, or perhaps a MacBook spec bump, but no dice there either.
as a latecomer to the party, it seems to me Engadget should be getting the "Low Ranked" rating, not Aaron. Maybe his tone was a bit caustic, but still understandable.
Editing the post to make yourself not look like you didn't drop the ball instead of just putting an update is kinda smarmy.
I agree with Caleb. Just because someone reads the article 10-15 minutes after it's posted, they shouldn't get the different story. If the story has changed, either make a new article OR use that UPDATE tag at the end of the article (it's not like it's not already being used). Otherwise you're being a revisionist and pretend you didn't make a mistake, and only a few early readers would know the real truth. It's bad journalism.
perhaps the new MBPs and Take Two Update and MB spec bump are part of the rumored special event in a week or two?
Just as was going through the Apple site I saw some product called an iTablet, but it was only there for an instant. The page disappeared the next time I tried to load it. Shucks. Maybe it was nothing. Maybe it was a site. Oh, well. Better wait a couple of more months.
Yes it's their new cure all pill. They silently purchased Uncle Feelgood who have been making cure alls since the 1800's and now Apple has taken them over and put it in pill form. It will end world hunger, cancer, alzheimers, AIDs, constipation, fanboyism and all means of ills.
"Aperture 2.0" - Is that the new version of the Portal gun? they also going to announce they have opened a new Aperture Science Enrichment Center? and GLaDOS X codename Leopardess?
Yes I know I posted the exact same joke in previous story but the government keeps telling us we have to recycle to save the planet.
Apple does what it must because it can.
we will not see new MacBook Pros until WWDC, I'm afraid.
...thought there is a rumor about the release of an intermediate machine called the MacBook Amateur.
Don't forget the MacBook Semi-Pro.
The moral of his story: never get excited over the rumor mill.
Aperture 2.0 seems to be less than 1/2 the price I paid for 1.0. It's much cheaper than any other "Pro-level" Apple software. Maybe 3.0 will be part of iLife.
This whole new MacBook Pro frenzy is crazy. The Air is interesting, but largely a snooze. What I'm looking for in a new MacBook Pro are things that Apple has consistently missed the mark on:
** Battery life of a minimum of 6 hours
** Screen resolution that is at least as good as non-Macs with similar screen sizes
Another HUGE plus would be a Blu-Ray SuperDrive.
Give me all 3 and I'll line up with all the other idiots to buy another Mac.
"Give me all 3 and I'll line up with all the other idiots to buy another Mac."
Wait, does that mean you're an idiot, or will be one when you get a Mac?
@Kizorblade
Since I already have multiple Macs, I'm in the idiot-crew!
Just like the previous version, you can download a full working 30 day trial here: http://www.apple.com/aperture/trial/
There are two new products at the store this morning. Boatloads of folks have noticed Aperture 2 (which depended on yesterday's Leopard 10.5.2 update for RAW support for new cameras). In addition, Apple is now selling the Time Capsule router/Time Machine remote disk device, as promised by El Stevo at MacWorld.
Time Capsule has been being sold since mac world. Still not shipping though :-(
About damn time!
Prices:
Full: $200
Upgrade: $100
Recent Purchase Upgrade: $10
Here's a tip: buy Photoshop.
Yeah, buy Photoshop.
New price $649
Upgrade price $199
So what do you get for that additional $450 price? Thousands of features that most photographers will never need.
I have nothing against Photoshop, but it is not the be all end all of everything. Although it tries to be. For less then a third of the price I can do everything that I need to do with my digital photos in a much more user friendly environment.
Now, if I was doing photo compositing or something major like that then, yeah Photoshop is your tool. But if you are simply wanting to organize and edit your photos Photoshop is way too much money and in some ways is less useful.
It is like buying a F1 formula car for your daily commute. It will work, but it will cost you more then you needed to spend and doesn't have a blinker.
The right tool for the right job is a more logical solution.
Photoshop is definitely the king when it comes to image manipulation but I'll stick with Aperture for library management and distribution. You can certainly just use Photoshop and Bridge but I really like Aperture and the new price point is pretty sweet.
I've been upgrading for years so the price isn't a huge thing for me. But hey you're right, most people aren't pro photographers who can actually write off purchases like Photoshop.
Photoshop and Aperture aren't even comparable. They're meant to do two different things. Photoshop is more for graphic designers where as Aperture is strictly for photographers. A lot of photographers don't even NEED half of the crap that Photoshop offers.
Does it come with GLaDOS?
Finally! I was waiting for someone to say that
Your post was a triumph
It looks like there is a new Aperture, it looks like Apple is calling it Aperture 2
This FINALLY came out. I'm so excited (seeing as I'm a photographer).
I'm using the trial right now and it is REALLY smooth. It runs so much quicker/smoother than 1.5 did. There are some great new adjustments as well! Plus "Events" was added like in iPhoto which practically means I no longer need to go through and single handed rename photos, projects, folders, ect. Great Job Apple! Keep 'em coming!
for that price you are better off with lightroom. much better camera support (every camera released as of now), free upgrades to minor revisions, and possibly the best set of tools for any photographer. aperture is still a joke, can't even properly support DNG files, and can't even be used in tiger. can't have your library on a network drive either.
i'm waiting for apple to either produce something innovative or just admit to not having any new ideas they haven't ripped off from other companies (an htc touch with less productivity, a palm folio with a bulkier os and less battery life(fine, palm dropped that project), a mybook world edition without wired ethernet, etc)
I wasn't really expecting ANYTHING, considering the 10.5.2 update last night... but I was wrong!
BUT I had no hope for a macbook pro update, they said there may be something once a week... so there probably stretching it out!
So Apple seriously has released something every Tuesday so far this year. Do you think this will continue on until 2009?!
Aperture Science, we do what we must, because we can...
The comparison is not against Photoshop, for which Apple has no alternative, but Adobe Lightroom which is FAR better and has had the "new features" of APv2 for a long time.
If you don't know what to use the "crap" in Photoshop is used for, you're probably using a Kodak disposable and don't need it anyway.
I think other comments here are FAR better. On Adobe's payroll?
Hardly, I just happen to be a pro and know what I am talking about, unlike Apple shills.
You're a "pro" at useless and uninformative FUD. Fail.
You were the one impuning my integrity fucker, which you failed. Although I exposed you for what you are - a dishonest Jobs nipple sucker.
I guess we're stuck waiting until WWDC for the 3G iPhone and Penyryn updates
Aperture Science
We do what we must because we can.....
New MBs came out in freakin' November, hell knows what would even make you think ANOTHER spec bump is any kind of priority...
Finally, £129 is a price I feel happy paying for an application. Will be getting it soon to complement my 20D.
