If you're tired of shelling out laptop prices for your WiFi smartphone browsing,
Boingo's got help on the way. At Mobile World Congress the company announced Sony Ericsson and iPhone / iPod touch versions of its connection client software, with the SE version to show up in the second half of the year, and the iPhone software to hit as soon as Boingo can get a hold of the SDK. Boingo already has Nokia and Windows Mobile-compatible versions of its software, but with 6 percent of users attempting to connect to Boingo already rocking an iPhone, it looks like this software can't come soon enough.
I thought the iPhone SDK was for web apps?
It can be used for both.
The iPhone SDK coming out at the end of February is for native 3rd party apps.
who cares about paying wifi for certain amount of hotspots u can usually jumponto someone's wifi network for free.
because people have largely figured out the whole putting passwords on their routers thing since 2002?
Sonyericsson?
They only have 2 phones currently on sale with wifi.
Both fairly useless in the usa, that is odd.
i smell new products...
Boingo may boost 100,000 locations but virtually none are located near my office, airports, or home (all Bay Area, CA)
My sentiments exactly. There *might* be a Boingo hotspot in my town (Barns&Noble) but Tmobile (and AT&T) hotspots flood where I live. The price is right for a mobile device, but not if you have a 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' situation to find a Boingo area.
When is someone going to build the holy grail of iPhone applications, the VOIP app.
I would love to use my Vonage account on my iPhone. Or even Skype.
The hardware is all right there...
WM can do Skype AND Vonage!
take that!
course...I still think the iPhone is sexy

Whathefucksaboingo?
Wait. This means I could use an iPod touch anywhere in the world?
Or am I just missing what this does?
Good move on their part

iPhone and iPod touch users can already take advantage of the excellent value Boingo Mobile plan today using the free Devicescape software. Will also log them into many other commercial and free networks around the world automatically.
Boingo won't sell you the $8 mobile plan if you have a touch or an iPhone, you'll have to get the $40 laptop subsciption.
I've downloaded the Devicescape software onto my ipod touch and I signed up for the Boingo Mobile account but it doesn't work. When I try to connect to the most prominent hotspot locations Bell Hotspot here in Toronto, it prompts me to log in with an id that sounds like a Boingo email account, which of course I didn't receive when registering for Boingo Mobile.
So Devicescape/Boingo Mobile is useless at this time.
