If you haven't already, Tesla Guitar is a must see video. It features a lethal Scopeboy modification of a Tesla coil for guitar amplification. Click on through for 250,000 volts of axe slinging distortion. Huzzah!
The RFI put off by that must be fairly...interesting.
Living near the Dulles landing/takeoff pattern I can just imagine how the various radio-based devices on the over-flying planes would appreciate this! Especially the AM-based ones.
[synapses just fired - a long time ago I saw a couple books published back during the 19-teens or 1920s-1940s or something that had such interesting projects as "Build your own X-ray machine!". I vaguely remember a caveat in that particular one about radio interference...something like "will interfere with radio transmission for an X radius" for some large radius. Yeah, probably all AM at the time]
Well, while the sound given from it doesn't sound particularly clear, it still makes for a pretty interesting audio effect. Plus it might yield a really technical playing style, used in combination with harmonics and modulation.
Maybe it could be used for some new type of rock-techno or something. Done properly, that should be awesome.

Only Jimmy Hendrix could make a Tesla Coil sound good. That man could turn distortion in to music.

NICE :D :D
Needs a bit of work on the 'making it sound better' front, but it's a hell of a start.

Why does everyone think it needs to sound better? Am I the only one who thought that sounded amazing?

It sounds good as an effect for maybe parts of songs, or backups for songs. but I wouldn't listen to a song if it was just this.
Jacobo @ Feb 12th 2008 9:10PM
I totally agree--it sounds awesome. It's like some big, electrified version of Death from Above 1979.
