RIM's BlackBerry Remote Stereo Gateway on sale for $80
BlackBerry owners looking to wirelessly connect to a home stereo or portable speakers can finally pick up that Remote Stereo Gateway we first saw sneaking through the FCC at the end of last month, for $80 from Tessco. The matchbook-size dongle receives a Bluetooth signal from your compatible 'Berry, and then pushes the audio out a standard 1/8-inch jack. According to the retail description, the device is also capable of streaming tunes from your stereo to a pair of Bluetooth headphones, which would mean that we are in fact looking at an A2DP profile here and thus likely compatibility with non-BlackBerry devices. Anyone wanna do us a solid and test this out with a WinMo phone?

WBT-210 from Jensen. I purchased 10 of these on eBay for $5 each. It has A2DP as well has a built in mic for handsfree calls. Works fine with WM devices for A2DP.

Wow. Blackberry>iPhone for music. Hello Steve Jobs?
DonatoM3 @ Feb 13th 2008 1:24PM
LOL. Yeah it's great when people at the gym are all perplexed that your non Iphone phone can use Bluetooth stereo headsets when their top of the line music playing phone can't.
Dugas @ Feb 13th 2008 1:26PM
YEAH. Wow. Too bad most people who use blackberrys don't read this stuff.
i'd venture to say most readers are 60% iphone users or something crazy like that.

Always have been. That's why Engadget does so well with mobile stories.

I read this everyday and I have a blackberry, had one for a long time. Yes I would still take my 8830 over a iPhone any day, not because I hate apple, cus its a better all around phone.

Only to tell people that I'm using for six month now the stereo bluetooth headphones Plantronics Pulsar 260, which has a buit-in microphone and can be used at home for the same purpous of this little box. So that means you have 2in1 for less money. costs from 42 dollars, that is half price
DonatoM3 @ Feb 13th 2008 1:49PM
Your Plantronics Pulsar headset has a stereo output jack to hook up to your home stereo system? Man my Rokr S9's only have the stereo headset handsfree mic and mp3 controls part.
Evandro @ Feb 13th 2008 1:57PM
YEs it does. check this http://www.wirelessground.com/plpu260stblh.html
chuck @ Feb 13th 2008 2:25PM
about $55 at newegg and amazon... with shipping incld
mike pags @ Feb 13th 2008 7:46PM
Does your Plantronics jobby have a 3.5mm jack, or a 2.5mm? Do you need to use an adapter to use standard headphones/headphone jack?
I'd love to not spend $80 and bluetooth equip my car stereo...
Eric @ Feb 13th 2008 2:55PM
Yup. I got Pulsar 260 also. Love it!
Xanatos451 @ Feb 13th 2008 2:43PM
Yeah, but I bet yours doesn't double to also stream from a non-bluetooth source to bluetooth headsets. In otherwords, the line-in becomes a line-out. Dual use. Now that's cool. I wouldn't mind being able to use my bluetooth headset with my stereo system for wireless internet streaming music around the house.
DonatoM3 @ Feb 13th 2008 2:51PM
That's definitely a nice find Evandro. Actually this could be a solution for people wanting to use their bluetooth device with their car stereo.
Mike it uses a 2.5 mm jack according to the diagram.
Brian @ Feb 13th 2008 2:23PM
Man if this could work for my Samsung Blackjack, I'd love to hook this up to my car stereo system. I keep my music loud, so it would be great if it could cut out when someone calls me so I could hear the phone. Does anyone else know of a device that could work for this...thats cheaper?

Loot it is a 2.5mm but it brings a cable to make it 3.5 mm. I mean it comes with a cable that has 2.5 output to 3.5 so u can plug to a auxiliar in with no extra hassle
Eric Grinstead @ Feb 13th 2008 3:27PM
can the pulsar be used while its plugged in and charging?
Discostew @ Feb 13th 2008 3:33PM
The blackberry media player is completely lame and I can't imagine using it as any type of audio device. But this would be great for the other uses (but you can find cheaper products). RIM should spend less R&D on these devices and more time on writing a usable media application.

Stew, you need flipside:

Sean @ Feb 13th 2008 4:07PM
So what exactly does this do turn a regular bluetooth signal into a stereo so you can plug your headphones into? so its just for phones without a2dp?
Evandro @ Feb 13th 2008 4:14PM
YEs u can use ur pulsar while it is charging. plus u can chage it through USB on the computer. comes with a wall carger also

I've had a Logitech Music Anywhere (I think it's called) stereo adapter for over a year now that does this. It works great with A2DP on my WM6 Dash. It is really nice to walk into my room hit play on the reciever (or the ir remote) play music, switch tracks, etc. over my stereo speakers from my Dash all without even touching the Dash in my pocket.
So these things are nice and useful I'd like a remote though (like my logitech has) and the price seems a bit high for me. I bought mine on Woot over a year ago for $35 though, so I have no idea what they actually cost.
