Microsoft drums up its very own Xbox 360 shortage
The word on the street, nay, the word straight from Jeff Bell's mouth, is that the Xbox 360 is experiencing stock shortages, which could hurt sales for January and February. We'd already heard of Elite shortages, but now they seem to be more widespread. "You could say we misjudged demand," said Bell, head of global marketing for Microsoft games. "We're literally out of stock in many stores. We think this will have an impact on our sales." Apparently the 1.3 million Xboxen sold in December didn't leave many sitting around for the rest of winter, so we could be seeing shortages through February, according to Bell -- but they should be able to meet demand by spring. It almost sounds like Microsoft is playing hard to get like a certain other console we know of, but we'll bite our tongue until we can get a tearful confession out of Major Nelson. Or, you know, two straight years of stock scarcity.

yes, you love it so much so you have to bash everything related, even ms internal org change get on your nerves.
admit it troll, it must be real pain when you are so in love with steve's little apple but have to pretend you have nothing to do with it
hahaha.
I bashed Xbox for not having BR! they went with HD-DVD which sucks! dude you seriously need to read a little better. I bashed the other because PS3 has no games, EVERYONE knows that! Even PS3 people say it! wii is a casual gamers console! PS3 can't compete with the online gaming of Xbox, we are talking about consoles here genius I never mentioned anything about any OS, but if you really need to know I work with both MS and Apple, im certified in both and each has their benefits. I Own a PSP which is great, I had a DS before I decided to go with PSP becuase the PSP had better games. I don't go with one company because i'm some fanboy or troll! i go where the technology is great and best suites me, I love my xbox because it's also a Media Center extender, I love my Macbook because it's Light, sexy, and fast, I like my PSP slim because its portable and the games are better than the DS, I have a zune because it has a built in radio, which I listen to on the way to work while I play my PSP. You must think I'm a fanboy or something, but you are so off! go mess with somone else because your barking up the wrong tree you___(insert insult here)______________
My local hardware store ran out of manure this week too
There seems to be a lot of demand for Crap lately
;-)
George??? you still working on that joke?
i highly doubt that microsoft is doing this on purpose... You turn production on full steam for xmas, not for frickin valentines day...
My best buy only had arcades in this saturday, but i walked into target, they had 30 pro's in stock... I ended up getting back into work last night at bby and they had a pallet full of pros...
Xbox isnt like the wii, people actually use their xbox's lol...
I don't know about the rest of you, but there are definitely shortages in my area. There are 4 Wal Marts in a 40 mile radius and one had a single pro and another had an arcade.
EBgames had a Halo version and no idea when they would be getting new ones. They did have tons of boxes sitting around, but if you ask if they have any in stock there were none.
I think that's one of the reasons a lot of you don't think there is a shortage. You walk into BestBuy and see a stack of boxes that are part of a display. But if you actually tried to buy one you might find a different story.
Yay, let's manufacture 2 million more defective units instead of FIXING THE DAMN DESIGN.
Was lame when Nintendo does this. Lamer for Microsoft. How long till we see empty PS3 shelves?
Premium systems are rare here in Des Moines. Stores have all sorts of Core systems though.
just waiting for Canada to legalize marriage to game consoles.
sorry to burst your bubble Jeff Bell but it wasn't inventory mismanagement that led to the bad numbers for Dec,Jan and Feb ...it was the PS3. PS3 ousold the 360 by more than 1 million consoles worldwide in Dec. They almost sold the numbers of ps3s in dec. than the rest of 2007 :)
the number of xbox 360s "SOLD" is actually "shipped"...........there is a huge difference in factory stocks and actual kids playing the consoles.
wii and the ps3 give actual "SOLD" numbers.
I just hope Microsoft is accurate about getting inventory back on track by spring. There are still many people frustrated with nintendo because of the Wii shortages. Didn't Nintendo say that they would meet demand by spring of last year? Fast forward to Feb '08, and the Wii shortage is a bad as ever with ebay prices as a constand $350 to $400. Now they are saying Wii supply will meet demand by this winter??? By that time, x'mas '08 is going to create wii shortages again until at least spring 2009, which is I guess the earliest date where a casual consumer can walk in and buy a wii.
If Microsoft is smart, they need to ramp up production or else they'll turn into another Nintendo.
It doesn't seem that there's as much a problem w/ lack of supply as there is with its allocation. Whoever handles distribution for MS seems to be doing a piss poor job. Seems they're underestimating the demand in the hick/hillbilly/redneck regions of America.
Liberty, MO BestBuy is sold out in a sense. We do not have any on the shelves, but there is a huge ring of them stacked in front of the geeksquad precinct, mostly Arcade versions, but several pro versions. If you order on BestBuy's website and select in store pickup we should be able to ship these around. That or ask an employee if they cannot order one through the options available in their toolkit.
The 3 closest Best Buy stores to me all have tons of stock including the Elite and the Halo editions... stacks of em.
Can you say MS is pulling a Nintendo (or rather, pulling everyone's Wii)?
Hard to keep your product on the shelves when most of them are replacing lemons!
