HP iPAQ 610 series soldiers on outside US
So apparently HP just has a very special form of hatred for its native soil, because that iPAQ 610 series with that nifty touch sensitive scroll wheel embedded in the keypad now appears to be canceled only in the US. This bittersweet news comes courtesy of British retailer Devicewire, which reports that it'll have examples of the iPAQ 614 available to its customers as soon as next Monday for the princely sum of £389.99 (about $765). That's fine, though, HP, whatever. We didn't want your stupid iPAQ anyway.

Too bad, it's not out in the states. It looks pretty rugged.
martin @ Feb 15th 2008 3:09PM

Still, its a loss of a cool gadget. I'd wish it was here just for competition sake.
matt @ Feb 15th 2008 3:28PM
i think they were afraid that if released in the us that engadget would call it an iphone clone and give it a horrible review because it doesn't have stupid fruit all over it.
Jonathan @ Feb 15th 2008 3:35PM
put a qwerty on it and call me.
Kyle @ Feb 15th 2008 3:41PM

Yannick Desjardins @ Feb 15th 2008 3:53PM
Not its not, the 910 is a smartphone while this one is a Mobile Phone, so a querty who still be very welcome.
Iain @ Feb 15th 2008 3:59PM
@Yannick: no, they're both smartphones - they're running the same OS on the same processor and have the same connectivity.
The only difference is the keyboard and last I checked, that wasn't what determined a smartphone's credentials...
Jonathan @ Feb 15th 2008 4:11PM
I like the bigger screen and that neat scroll wheel thing.
Yannick Desjardins @ Feb 15th 2008 3:54PM
Will probably be available in CannuckLand within 10 years
Nabil @ Feb 15th 2008 4:31PM
I blame Apple, and hear me out on this one before you flame:
HP probably canceled because the market right now is over-saturated with smart phones, due to everyone's attempt to counter the iPhone.
AT&T already has the iPhone, so they will not provide anything that would compete with it's coolness, because they want people to buy it, plus they already have the Tilt.
Verizon has the Voyager to counter the iPhone, and the also have Samsung i760
Sprint Just got the HTC touch to counter the iPhone, and they also have the mogul.
T-mobile just got the Shadow to counter the iPhone, they also have the wing, and who can forget the infamous Paris Hilton sidekick.

SK @ Feb 15th 2008 4:55PM
If the USA returns to colonial status under the crown of England, will we get it then?
Johnny @ Feb 15th 2008 6:40PM
maybe, if you replace those monkeys with stamps glued to their hands at the US patent office with some real intelligent people ;)

jabber_wolf @ Feb 15th 2008 8:04PM
Dam I want one and this is much better than the Touch, Mogul, or most things out there because.. the processor !!
Bloody Fast processor !!!!
uopercival @ Feb 15th 2008 10:44PM
Well, if this thing's build quality is anything like the HP iPAQ 510 that's being sold at the local Staples, I'm glad they're not selling it. I was excited when I heard Staples was carrying the iPAQ 510, unlocked and out the door for $$399 CDN, (it's now $299) that I rushed to the store to check it out. When I picked it up I knew right away that I didn't want one.
I'll have to agree with Engadget on this one... I didn't want it anyway.
shinigami13 @ Feb 15th 2008 11:26PM
Hahaha, at almost $800. HP can keep their stupid iPaq. That's rediculous.
gruddzr @ Feb 16th 2008 12:57AM
