This one's still just a bunch of whispers and coincidences, but we've been hearing that Apple may lower prices on the
iPhone and
iPod touch in the next few months and drop the 8GB touch. Word is that falling flash prices coupled with the desire to introduce the 3G iPhone at an attractive price point will lead to the
16GB iPhone falling to $399, along with similar touch price drops: 16GB for $299 and 32GB for $399. It's not clear what'll happen to the 8GB iPhone, but everyone seems to agree that the 8GB touch is on the way out -- we actually think a $199 8GB touch would fly off shelves, but that's probably cutting margins razor-thin. We'll see when we see -- and if flash prices are really falling that fast, it'll be interesting to see what happens to iPod nano pricing as well.
The problem is, most people think they need to upgrade everytime Apple comes out with something new. Get a friggin life.
If the 8GB iphone dropes to 299, I would definately get it, or as a gift for someone looking. 3G is a big hypemachine on ATT. It's not even that fast. Actually, its a joke.
3G isn't as big of a deal as you think.
I use my iPhone all the time to check news, email, and more importantly, prices. Have you ever been in a store and checked the eBay price with your 3G cellphone/mobile? Probably not. I had a 3G phone (with a crappy browser) and never used it for anything like this. You really can search for pretty much anything, anytime...albeit when you have EDGE.
The iPhone, on EDGE, is really useful. Don't get sucked in by the 3G hype. Go to an Apple store, turn off the WiFi, and see how it is with EDGE. It's probably a lot better than you think.
Oh, and I know Apple gets a cut of the contract. The point is that the contract percentage is gravy. They make money off the phone and the contract both. They're not 'losing' money from unlocking; they're just not getting money that would be paid to them by the carrier. They're making plenty from the phone itself.
Wow, you hear a cell phone will drop in price after being on the market for a year?
Incredible, you must be very close to the mainline to get such surprising insider news.
Except it has not been a year, it's only been 8 months. Less if you count the first price cut. Two price cuts in under a year. I hope they know what they're doing, the stock has already plummeted far enough.
I could care less about 3G. I am holding on for iphone 2.0 for other possible upgrades:
32gig, video recording, ichat video, faster processor, etc.....
Apparently. "Apple" isn't going to cut the price, merely the "restrictions" on the price and opening additional distribution channels, read Best Buy. By allowing BB and ATT to offer promotional pricing with certain contract requirements, Apple can claim deniability in any price drop actions and simply blame those on the sales channel. Of course the bottom line is that Apple sells more iPhones, ATT gains more contracts, BB sells more accessories and the consumer saves money. Win, win, win, win!
Finally, I didn't want to say this but screw waiting for the google phone! If the 8GB iphone drops to $300 I'm going to buy one as soon as I hear the news. (I take that back kinda, I'd pay $400 for a 16gb 3G iphone)
I'd definitely consider buying an 8 gig if if went down to $200.
I wish that come earlier:)
Men im going to buy a 8gb iphone on the next week
BECAUSE: first i dont live in USA and its mi unique opportunity in these whole year to go to USA and if a new iphone comes out i dont think that im going to buy it. Second a 100 bucks in my country is nothing at these moments because we have 2 forms to buy dollars buying from other people or buying for the country and Third i dont cara about 3g because in my country that service is not too used and we dont car about that im the people that thinks when a phone gets older it gets better cause gets more apps games and stuff like that thats the good of companies like NOKIA..
Men i dont know if i have to wait but im going to buy it.. and if i can go yo USA another time im going to buy the 8 gig and i will buy the new one if it comes out a new one... i have to buy it on USA because here its to expensive her it cost like 800 dollars and im not going to pay that por a phone... another thing is that if i sell my 8gb iphone i can win some money with that because the people here sells it for about 800 dollars so i can get down the price and sell ir for a good price so i dont lose money because people her love the ipone
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT?
for me these are good reasons to buy one... even if i buy one i will win money when im going to sell it because the phones that the operators doesnt sell here are too expensive..!
anyone can answer to me?
If they do that, I (being a 8GB iTouch owner) will go MAD and make sure I get a £100 Apple Store voucher, like the iPhone people did after the price cut before!!!
£100 off MacBook here I come!
I think that the 8Gb iPhone will disappear with the arrival of the 3G iPhone.
The 16Gb iPhone would then cost 399$ and the 16Gb 3G iPhone 499$.
The 8Gb iTouch would also disappear which would cause a price cut of 100$ for the 16Gb (299$) and the 32Gb (399$) iTouches.
It's impossible that Apple put the iTouch 8Gb at 199$ beacause as said before it would kill the nano.
That would be great because i'm planning to buy the 3G iPhone :)
well let's face it.
IPhone was only touch screen 'wifi'ing phone when it came out
but now there are some competition
that is about to happen so
Apple has to lower the price now. it is common sense
so why some ppl r pissed off about this
