Apple store down, again
Sigh. You know the drill. A couple hours of downtime and then we'll see nothing (maintenance), or new products that range from the mundane (Aperture 2) to the golly (32GB iPod touch). We already saw the iPod shuffle drop by $30 this morning before Apple pulled the plug on the store. Perhaps the $100 drops on the iPhone and touch are just minutes away? It is Tuesday after all.

Would be hilarious if, instead of triggering the page, updating the shuffle, and turning the warning off, they forgot to trigger the page, updated the shuffle, and triggered the page, thinking they were turning the warning off.
So instead of being able to shop when they should be, the Apple Store will be offline all day.
Come on Engadget. Come clean. This isn't a news story it's just an exercise in Apple PR.
How much is Jobsie boy paying you to keep putting up these endless non stories?
They'll be announcing full support for HD-DVD with a full range of players including one that also has a Betamax player built in for backwards compatibility.
I'll get my coat..
Well, it IS Tuesday.....
Damn - just arrived no updated specs on my machine. Going to a bit miffed if this is a macpro update ;(
I think it's US only. HK store up and running. =P Just couldn't resist.
Silly people. Apple is preparing to announce the launch of the Apple IV, new successor to the Apple II line.
so why so they have to bring the whole thing down to adjust a price or add something new?
I have it from a reliable source that Apple will be announcing the availability of the Air Book with a built-in HD-DVD drive.
Hm... somehow I bet you are wrong. :)
apple must love the reaction it gets whenever it closes the apple store.
i bet for fun, this time, there is no change :D they were just fiddling with the code.
Well, I'm looking forward to a new super-fast MacBook Pro, but I guess they're holding that for the upcoming conference.
Maybe the shuffle now comes in tangerine.
32GB iPod touch! 16GB iPhone! nice. 460 Euro is a bit much for 32GB touch :|.

New MacBook Pros... Please! I've been wanting a new one but have been holding off until they update them.
BTW - I love the coverage. I think it's fun. As a proud fanboy, I like knowing when apple farts!
I love Apple Tuesdays!!! I think is great that Engadget posts every Apple move, we the fanboys LOVE it!!! Let's see what this Tuesday brings to us!
Why is the apple store such a failure. Why do they need to take the whole damn store to change a price? You know we invented dynamic content what was it... 10 years ago. Get with the program. I'm available for consulting at $10,000.00 per hour.
The US store is down, why all the hoo ha? Asd for lost sales, it's down outside of US business hours, which is quite normal. Who the hell is going to be shopping for a Mac at 6am in the morning?
I've done some shopping in the wee hours of the morning 1am-4am. Granted, I don't do it often but sometimes, it's hard to find time during the day.
That sucks. All they did is drop the price of the shuffle. It's back up.
Apparently they also launched a 2GB shuffle, not for sale though.
hahaha only the cheaper shuffle.
i'm in stitches here
I find it odd that no one notices that will all the new web technology around that Apple ( a company know n for it's innovation) has to take their entire store completely off-line to make product changes. Or is this just their way of getting the attention and buzz going?
"1Gb now for $49. 2Gb coming soon for $69.
The 1GB iPod shuffle lets you wear up to 240 songs on your sleeve. Or your lapel. Or your belt. Available in your choice of remixed colors for just $79."
HAHAHAHAHA
It's 9:06 Eastern Time, and I can see the American Store just fine.
32GB iPod Touch for $500? Eh, that's a bit much. I'll just go with the 160GB iPod classic for $350. Much cheaper. Less screen space to scratch as well.
While I could add to the growing list of clever comments that get posted everytime engadged does this kind of post - I'm taking a different route...
I'm just going to remove engadget from my igoogle page.
Some posters here might give me kudos, even more will think "good riddance".
BUT, I doubt I'm the only person in the world who has decided to drop engadget from their daily reading list. And this IS a site that belongs to Engadget, and not the readers, so - what's YOUR oppinion Engadget?
Do you really want to lose readers? Because your fanboyism has cost you one here.
Can I have your stuff?
I thought there was a way to have engadget not show any apple updates to appease the whiny apple haters out there? or was that just during MacWorld? BTW, I'm neither an apple fanboy nor a hater, nor am I a MS fanboy nor hater. I just like technology in general, and this is one of the best places to get tech news (and it's a good way to waste time at work) if you don't want to read Apple news, don't click on the freaking link!!!! Jesus, how hard is that?
It's definitely not about HD-DVD drives since the format war is now officially over. Maybe Blu-Ray?
i'm pretty sure his comment about HD-DVD was intended to be sarcastic.
Stace, sure sure. Please re-read my comment before bashing. I said "if Apple is coming up with something". The keyword is "if". Of course, Apple did this before, it can just be store maintenance and nothing new is coming at times.
I have to ask how the hell much money you're wasting if you monitor the apple store enough to know when it is and isn't down. That's extremely pathetic.
@Angry Intern
Did you even read what you were replying to? I'm certain you probably have no clue what igoogle is, but flooding posts that are little more than 'look at me!!!,' hurt engadget's view rate.
The igoogle gadgets are rss readers that deliver *all* news from engadget in a list. Seems lately for every 1 post of legitimate interest, there is a veritable deluge of postings that don't actually report anything, predominantly from apple users. That really makes it next to useless, and detracts from traffic engadget would otherwise have.
It's the equivalent of 30 posts coming in saying, 'Microsoft web expressions are #1 -nt.' That would be every bit as useless. He was talking about removing the gadget because it had become useless, and that is perfect valid. Just because he happens to point out that it's predominantly apple fans flooding the site doesn't mean he's an 'apple hater.' I've personally noted it and have been skipping over the engadget reader as all the links are almost all like this, and you obviously missed that point.
I only clicked on this article because I thought it might contain useful information; outages, wide area power failure, network security issues, points of interest, etc. Unless you're CalTrans, regular scheduled maintenance doesn't qualify.
People need to be reminded this is a news site, not twitter. If you want to do shoutouts, go there.
As for 'apple haters,' there aren't any. There are merely the people you attack. We all know OS X rocks, and no one cares enough about windows to run around talking shit about OS X. The ones that do are just trolling you and you need to start realizing that. Stop acting like someone walked up shouting racial epithets at you.
Stevie Jobs should give away free iPod Touches to the first 100 people who go to the Apple Store after it is back up.
Starbucks must be a frikkin madhouse when the Apple Store goes down, all I ever see are macbook users in there.
