HCL MiLeap Y series tablet / UMPC in the wild
HCL managed to get our attention when it announced its MiLeap X series laptop and Y series tablet/UMPC last month, and now thanks to the Tech Ticker blog we have better look at the more interesting of the two, the MiLeap Y. As you can see above, however, the device is unsurprisingly a little less sleek looking than it was in the polished press photos, but still far from an eyesore. What's more, while it didn't delve into a full review, Tech Ticker did say that the Y has a "good" build quality, and that the keys are "nicely spaced out." Be sure to hit up the link below for plenty more pics, and decide for yourself if it's worth the $800+ price tag.

hey umpc makers... quit screwing around with space to the sides of the screen and get a bigger one in there already!

i think its the combination of 7 inch screen and the smallest availabe generic keyboard . this keyboard is on almost all devices of this size. eeepc, kojinsha , everex.

$800 is not a bad price when compared to the $200-$300 more VYE S37 and Kohjinsha. Still $300 more than my liking.

That's great and all BUT... will it play D.. *thud*

The initial poster of this comment is currently in a comatose state, courtesy of my poison tipped ninja dart. Let this be known that the above fate will find all those that continue this oh so old trend of asking whether a particular product (of whatever improbable nature) is able to play an age old popular fist person shooter computer game. The same applies for those that question the blending properties of any product (including actual blenders themselves).
I am done.

It's fat and there's a ton of wasted space.

I bet this is the OEM version from Kohjinsha! I own one which was brought from Japan (EXACTLY the same!). Look: http://www.kohjinsha.com/models/sh/lineupsh.html. The outlook, layout, and presumably the contents are the same.

Yes, this is a rebranded Kohjinsha model FYI guys. I'm impressed with their latest SR model, which manages to cram in an internal DVD burner! The downside is that it uses a 1.8" hard drive vs 2.5" in the previous models. Hell, I'm impressed they could cram a 2.5" into the previous models in the first place.

VYE have been selling these kojishina laptops for ages.
You can get them at ebuyer in the uk for about £500.

Behold -- the "drop-in" keyboard of the Eee makes another appearance.
Nicely spaced out keys? As nicely spaced out as the Eee's, since they're the same.
(As seen in the Cloudbook as well).

I am writing this from the same laptop although mine is kohjinsha branded and has 2 gigs of ram, I have the big and small battery and am pissed that I payed almost 1,300 for all that if this is 800 some. But I love this machine, and the sides of the screen are not wasted here because they hold usefull buttons.

I think this is just a repainted Intel Classmate PC
