Ilife Technology's S5 PMP can emulate everything... except true love
This here S5 doesn't really have much in the specs department that isn't inside of every single wholesale PMP to come out of China in the past year, but with emulators for NES, Sega and even SNES (a rarity for these things) built in, we'd certainly give it a second look where it to ever show up Stateside. Outside of the gaming you're looking at a 2.4-inch LCD, and some decent codec support, including Flash video. No word on price or when this thing will be hitting obscure Chinese retailers in limited quantities.

Pretty decent. I just hope they EMU at full speed.
What's with the Indiana Jones floor o' snakes background?
Worms, why did it have to be worms?
"we'd certainly give it a second look where it to ever show up Stateside. "
Got a typo there bub.
blarg, i was looking to buy something fairly similar to this, but theres no way in hell i can now. D:
CURSE YE CHINA, STOP MAKING CRAP!
It can emulate Sega? Oh boy, I sure hope it can emulate Sony and Nintendo also!
The article clearly states it can emulate the NES and SNES... so yeah, you fail...
@ Dan P
No. He meant that they said it can emulate Sega. Okay. Let me ask you a question: How many Sega systems were there? Sega is the company, so saying it emulates Sega is like saying it emulates Sony and Nintendo. Get it? Got it? Good.
Personally I've always wanted a handheld media player that can create a confusing product line and host a game creator that's one of the most xenophobic shits ever to grace the planet.
But that's just me.
Uhh my archos gmini 400 circa 2004 could emulate sega, nes, doom, and gameboy.. not really that hard to get better hardware 3 years later.
Don't even waste your money on this crap, if you want a generic "Mp4 Player" then check out the JXD 301. It emulates NES, SNES, Sega MegaDrive, NeoGeo, GBA & GBC roms. They stopped making them but you can still pick them up on eBay. Best $120 I've spent in a while.
Hey Superevil,
can you just smack the same emulators you use on your windows machine on it or does it take specially made emulators for that hardware?
even better is the onestation mini, (google it) which plays up to snes on carts and cost 30$.
You always have to mention "True Love" right after I've temporarily forgotten about my lovesickness, don't you, Engadget. :(
*sigh*
I'll wait for the Pandora. (There's going to be a prototype at TIDC on the 26th! Yay!)
I'm with you on Pandora. If you want something like this right now then get a GP2X. Your not going to beat it for emulation.
but it can't do MAME.
engadget you guys had to mention more than one nintendo related system in that posting? nintendo fanboiszs!!!!!
/sarcasm
true love will be included in future firmware updates
