Palm tries to make a right with two wrongs
Sure, it's fun to carry around three, four, or even five devices at a time -- and now thanks to a new promotion from Palm, you can quickly up the number of gadgets hanging from your utility belt by two. Currently, if you purchase the PDA / smartphone-maker's $299 Palm TX, they'll throw in a $99 Zire Z22 for free. We're guessing those storage crates full of unsold product are probably starting to crowd Ed Colligan's basement.

I checked the title a few times to make sure the data says 2008 and not 2005. Palm is just shutting down, selling inventory and the rest. The company was totally mismanaged after the Palm V. However, the Palm Personal (1996) was and still is a great product. It is really sad in a way.
I don't know about you guys anymore. Of course I would not carry around 2 devices on my belt. But I would give one away to a young kid, especially if the outlay was nothing.
Think you guys.
The TX was the worst Palm I ever used. The other "pro" models at least had a metal casing that tended to resist the normal day to day bending and flexing that a portable product can go through. The plastic and cheap casing on the TX just cannot hold up. I am on my second returned TX from Palm and this one is about to die also, but I refuse to send it back for more punishment. To the trash with it when it dies.
Palm (and other PDA makers) have given up on the non-smartphone PDA. They no longer want to provide a one-time sell of a product. They want to do their best to force you into a smartphone (Treo, Blackberry, HTC etc...) where you have to pay a monthly bill. I wish someone would make a stand alone PDA with up-to-date tech.
Don't even get me started on Oracle and their lackluster support of handheld sync...

For anyone looking at a palm TX the free Z22 is a waste. This offer assumes something free is always good. Why is it good if it will just sit around never get used...if I bought a TX the Z22 would sit in the draw just like my Z31 and T5 and I have never found anyone I'd give either of them to. What a disadvantage I would be giving someone by giving them one of those out of date buggy devices. That's kind of like giving a kid a commodore 64 to help them learn about computers in a windows world. If you have someone you would like to help out that much I advise to buy them something modern.
And how much does the thought of the environmental impact of that extra plastic packaging burn me.
There is now a mobile version of Opera that works on Palm. It is a bit of a hassle to install because it needs a jvm installed first, bit it is comparable to Safari on an iPhone or Touch.
