Xbox 360 HD DVD now dead, get 'em while they're hot
Well scratch that rumor about a dramatic price drop: according to Microsoft's Gamerscore blog, Microsoft and Toshiba are discontinuing the Xbox 360 HD DVD drive. So long friend, we'll see you in the next life (or in the bargain bin at Goodwill soon enough).

I've noticed some ads for new movie releases don't mention HD-DVD now, even when the picture shows a HD-DVD version of the movie. Tempted to get one just for the upscaling feature.
I belive those are mostly Warner movies where the HD DVD release is 3 weeks behind the DVD/BR. So, they just say "Available now on Blu-Ray Hi Def and DVD" because, technically, it's not "available now" on HD DVD, even though it is (currently) scheduled for a later date.
I have noticed a lot of those commercials, too, but I haven't noticed whether they are all Warner or not.
im going to buy one, mod it as a PC drive, and use it for backups, or making my own HD movie format.
I guess they are a good buy if you've been eying those HD discs. Don't you still get those 5-disc bundles?
Wow - I like the fire sale!
I just bought the HD-DVD drive and 11 HD-DVD movies for $140 Australian Dollars - that's about $130 US.
At that price, I'm happy to use this to tide me over until I get the Blu Ray player I want later on.
How are the HD DVD drive and movies that someone buys useless? It can still be used to watch the HD DVD movies you already own. I always planned to get both anyways since the PS3 comes with one and for approx. $150 I can get the HD DVD addon for the 360. I don't understand why people are dumping them just because they lost the format war. OH GEEZ! the 360 and the PS3 are losing the console war so I must sell both of them right away so I can never again enjoy the games that I already own for them!
