Towering Gort replica fetching a pretty penny at auction
We've seen some pretty fantastic replicas grace the always fascinating pages of eBay before, but this particular creation is apparently hitting home with quite a few wealthy nerds prospective buyers. The fiberglass reproduction of Gort from the famed 1951 classic The Day The Earth Stood Still is currently sitting just above $4,000, and there's still quite a few hours left for bids to fly in from other galaxies. Unfortunately, the winning bidder will be forced to trek to San Francisco to pick it up, but at least you can look forward to checking out its tilting visor and array of sound effects before it melts your wallet and calls you master.

Worth Every Penny.
great movie
As far as movie robots go, Gort is a bit lame though.
A motorbike helmet painted silver, and a silver costume.
Robbie is much cooler.
Darn. I always get Gorn and Gort confused. I was hoping for some silver-eyed, reptilian love in here.
Klatu, Barrada, Nikto!
That comment was more predictable than all those "final nail in the coffin" ones...
Profile of Lock Gordon, who wore the Gort suit:

Sorry. Lock Martin, not Lock Gordon. Too many Flash Gordon reruns on SciFi, I guess.
I, for one, would like to be the first to welcome our San Franciscan (or Bay Area) overlords.
i'll make one of these next year and sell it for 2 grand
i mean really... a replica?
Doesn't hurt that there's a big name remake in the works for next year.

What the hell is with Keanu Reeves being in this movie, he will only kill one of my more favored movies of all time.
That but-head can act at all.
Robbie? Please. Gort was a great symbolic representation of atomic age technology, with the power to annihilate the planet and a nive bit of ambiguity regarding whether he was Klaatu's servant or master. Seamless metal body didn't hurt either.
Yeah, but does its visor open up and shoot out laser beams that vaporize everything from rifles to tanks?
My questions is why he needed a belt ring?
May or may not be a good investment as there's rumors of a remake due out in a couple of years... Remakes really fuel the market for memorabilia and $4,000 today could sell for $20,000 next year or the year after that...
But then again, I'm still waiting for my Hogan's Hero's and Gilligan's Island remakes I was promised ten years ago...
The ebay post says "Originally equipped with tilting visor with sound effects." This sounds like it is no longer equipped.
Also says "robot hasn't been activated ... unknow if it's in working condition" Now if you had this, wouldn't you turn it on to see if it works...?
I've seen/studied that movie quite a few times. One of my favorites. The Robert Wise narrative track on the DVD is quite interesting.
There's something not quite right with the scale of THIS Gort. He looks too thin. Chest isn't big enough.
