Xbox 360 HD DVD drive now officially $49.99
Look, don't act like you didn't know this was coming. Microsoft has started selling its Xbox 360 HD DVD drive for the ultra-bargain price of $49.99. So now's your chance to get one super-duper cheap. Or you could just throw that $50 into the garbage... same thing.

Come on Engadget, get your act together and get some edit function.

got the last one
comes with king kong and gotta send away the rebate for the 5 free hd dvd's
says right on the rebate it'll take 8-10 weeks for the rebate but hey 5 free hd dvd's and a 50 dollar player that works with my M1330, 4 ear old xps and 360;can'tcomplain
For $50...I say get it...I ordered mine at best buy...I will leave soon to go pick it up...bought it onlline...free remote, free king kong and 5 movies...shit man why not
LONG LIVE HD DVD!!!!
put it on your macbook air for a million irony points!
Isn't this a cheap way of picking up a blue laser?
Can you use it with the Macbook Air? Or with any mac?
As soon as I flush my $50 down the toilet for this, I'm going on eBay to buy a LaserDisc player to watch the 8 titles available for that. But then I'm going to have to buy a separate entertainment center to keep all of this hardware in so I can watch those 15 movies.
I called Hollywood Video tonight to see if any of them rented them anymore and was told that they're selling their entire collection and have pulled them off the shelved. This was a little disconcerting but was told by the sales guy that they'd probably sell for 2/$20 and I could get first dibs tomorrow night. That might not be such a bad deal either. Eh, it's a dying format but for a year until I upgrade it can't be all that bad for $50 + a couple bucks for a few movies. Not exactly in the garbage.
Josh,
Please do us all a favor, along with Engadget, and get bent asshat. So if I I buy a HD DVD player and drop it in a HTPC along with a BR player in a year's time when they aren't expensive as all fuck, its wasting my money.....throwing away my money eh....since when did a prick on a blog be able to determine what is throwing away money and what isn't? Moron.
Just got one using in-store pick up. I'm putting it in my "freezer" in case my current one dies. I'll take 5 free movies on this rebate.
Heck if I were ambitious I could sell the remote and King Kong HD-DVD. Just don't see why I'd go through the hassle.
Next stop the disc fire sales and a PS3.
That would be a pretty well spent $50. Disagree? You have Blu-ray already? How do you like Transformers? OH, nevermind.
My point is, while new content will be coming out, (and Transformers will obviously make it to Blu-ray,) it's still worth $50 for 1080p goodness. I mean... Come on, it's $50.
How about this for a reason. I have an Xbox...I want to watch movies in high definition...The player is $49 with a remote and a movie...Blu-Ray players are still $300 for a crappy one...Used HD-DVD's are on the cheap. I don't understand why people are having a hard time figuring out that some people have figured out a cheap way to get hundreds of movies already on HD. The same cost for Blu-Ray would be many times the cost.
