Goldmund's Eidos 20 BD Blu-ray player costs $17k
At first glance, we didn't really believe anyone would create a Blu-ray player with a $16,900 sticker. Then we saw it was produced by Goldmund. Continuing its long heritage of offering up grossly overpriced wares for those with more money than sense, the firm is now trumpeting a Blu-ray player more pricey than most low-end automobiles -- and we're not even sure it's Profile 2.0. What we do know is that the Eidos 20 BD includes an AC-Curator power supply circuit, the outfit's own Magnetic Damper for lowering read errors and a chassis only a mother could love. To each his / her own, we guess.

No, it really wouldn't be.
Interesting Technology Statement they have:

Audio Science is immense. The level, bandwidth, speed of signals is so much more extended than in any other electronics field that the necessary knowledge probably exceeds a single human capacity.
This is why we do all our development with large teams.
We are modest, learning more everyday, but still knowing we know nothing.
Thanks God, if competition knows even less…

Hmm... for selling $17k players I was expecting a much better website!
Just look at these Dockers-wearing Celine Dion fans at work:

Who would pay 17K for something as plain butt ugly as that? I wouldnt pay 100 bucks for that monstrosity. And the specks dont seem that good either. If I were managing this company I'd have fired the design team already
BOSE is gonna be pissed
For what it is worth, the author of this article might want to do a little homework and know what he is talking about when he writes this type of dribble. Goldmund products are rather well regarded in the real audio community and not a flash in the pan organization. that makes iPod desktop radios or docks like engadget favors. Just because you don't understand a quest for perfection and nor can you afford and are willing to settle for the sonic benefits of mp3 or aac, it does not mean that people with the means don't appreciate someone who is not trying to cut costs at the expense of excellence. Know what you are slamming before you write! It might be of note that most of the Goldmund past products continue to have a residual value some years later.......do you think much of the crap that you write about on a daily basis will have much value 6 months from now? I don't think so.
i've always wanted to meet a punter rich & stupid enough to buy a goldmund product. their ridiculous cdplayer - transport only - of a decade ago was worth giggles just imagining the prat who could hear the difference between it & a discman ...
I was astonished how much better than other high end stuff Goldmund sounded. Only the cloth eared would not notice it. The problem is to get a demo, and to be able to afford it.
Goldmund kit is a saft price but it by miles the best sounding music stuff I have ever heard
