Considering that Fujitsu just unleashed a
half-terabyte drive in the 2.5-inch form factor yesterday, Hitachi's 320GB Travelstar 5K320 seems a bit underwhelming. Still, it's pretty capacious in its own right, and does feature optional Bulk Data Encryption (BDE) and a 3Gb/s data transfer rate. The 5,400RPM SATA drive also includes "altitude-sensing Thermal Fly-height Control (TFC), an improved actuator latch and fourth-generation perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) head technology," and better still, only sucks down 1.8-watts of power when reading and writing. The good news? It's shipping to customers worldwide as we speak. The bad? Who knows how pricey it'll be.
Isn't the 500GB Fujitsu drive at 12.5mm? Not very useful to most laptop owners.
From the link:

@ Ian, he was mentioning the Fujitsu, not the above article Hitachi.
At least 2.50
Will this work on my PS3??
Yes.
i hope i'll never need 500 on my ps3, but this looks like it might be THE fit
Samsung has already announced a 500GB 2.5" drive earlier in the year that, although a triple platter design, still adheres to the standard 9.5mm height.

Been waiting for this one since CES. Due out 1st half 2008.
Let's see if Samsung can deliver a reliable drive though.
