Oh yes, the Apple store is down
C'mon, you knew this was coming. It's Tuesday -- didn't your ultra-sensitive Apple radar go all blinky pink on you as soon as the clock struck midnight? No? Guess that was just us. At any rate, it's clear something is afoot, and if those buzzes about MacBook and / or MacBook Pro refreshes we heard all day yesterday are right, there's gonna be some happy fanboys out there today. If they were wrong? Do the words Cupertino Riot of '08 mean anything to you? Stay tuned here for absolute, up-to-the-minute, breaking news. Huzzah! Oh, and we also see the UK / Australia outlets (among others) are also temporarily out of service. Goodie.

Power loss from a Danish wind turbine that tried to play Doom?
Oh yes. I think that's it!
bluemonday224 @ Feb 26th 2008 8:02AM
I know someone who works in an apple store and they said new macbooks are on there way today.
Erik @ Feb 26th 2008 7:23AM
I believe you are mistaken, good sir.
I heard the wind turbine tried to play Crysis on high.
eggothewaffle @ Feb 26th 2008 7:30AM
And it gave up the ghost after realizing how depressingly low the "fun factor" to "money spent on hardware to actually run the game beautifully" ratio was? :D
Erik @ Feb 26th 2008 7:32AM
Yes, apparently he didn't get the memo that graphics don't necessarily equal fun...
shiba @ Feb 26th 2008 10:41AM
quit bitching because you can't play the game, The scary part about Crysis, is it actually IS fun, while having those fancy graphics. No one expected that, which is part of the reason it is such a big deal.
Average 91 with a lowest of 80? Fuck your right, this game did blow ass:

"what for?"
Getting blog sites to advertise for them!
Intrepid @ Feb 26th 2008 8:31AM
So true. Honestly, what kind of site needs to be taken down so that they can add new products to it? I don't see Amazon go down for a new book, or Ebay go down for every new listing. Can't Apple build websites or is it really a publicity stunt?
Nubaeus @ Feb 26th 2008 1:17PM
Engadget writers:
*Have a trainee hit the refresh button on the apple store nonstop*
*Trainee discovers that the store is down*
*Chaos breaks loose in Engadget HQ*
*Immediate post on Engadget website*
*Mac Fanbois everywhere go crazy, some 'splode upon hearing the news*
Aprime @ Feb 26th 2008 7:03AM
For shits and giggles, of course.
Joe_Templeman @ Feb 26th 2008 8:58AM

Aprime @ Feb 26th 2008 8:06AM
Hilary spambots comment on Sony's cellular developments now?
BigBloke @ Feb 26th 2008 8:27AM
No, not to Sony products, only to Apple blogs
Aprime @ Feb 26th 2008 8:33AM
Check his comment history, fool.
He's only made two comments (including this one), and the other one was about a Sony cellphone.
BigBloke @ Feb 26th 2008 8:45AM
Jan 31st 2008 3:17AM are you kidding? I have the K790 Sony Ericsson, one of the best phones i have ever bought.
Yup, sounds like a definite plug for Hillary over there as well.
Most could be forgiven for mistaking today being 'Super Tuesday', howeever, I have to assume the irony is lost on you. But what do I know, I am just a fool.
Look up the word 'Tosser'
Aprime @ Feb 26th 2008 8:50AM
Nevermind, got myself confused.
Mentioned I was tired in a later comment.
O.G @ Feb 27th 2008 2:01PM
What the hell Cliton 08' have to do with this topic...
WS @ Feb 26th 2008 7:04AM
SDK!!! (please?)
Joe @ Feb 26th 2008 8:13AM
Let's hope the STORE isn't down for an sdk.
Gavin @ Feb 26th 2008 7:04AM
So I'm going to see this post every Tuesday in my Engadget RSS feeds, am I? Give it a rest, guys, and just post the actual releases once they're announced...
fuzi @ Feb 26th 2008 7:22AM
there was a rumour that the SDK was going to be delayed a further 1-3 weeks. but not sure of the validity.
would the site need to do down for that though? is it a purchasable product?
fuzi @ Feb 26th 2008 7:24AM
damn, sorry, i looked away that was a reply to WS
shamrock593 @ Feb 26th 2008 7:38AM
Gavin, it works both ways - so just give it a rest.
Ben Anderson @ Feb 26th 2008 7:43AM
Just for the record, these announcements are some of my favourite Engadget posts. It's not always every Tuesday, and what does it matter, if it bothers you just click past it like all the other less interesting news items posted up all the time.
emailtabs @ Feb 26th 2008 7:05AM
One day they'll forget to take the site down on a tuesday.
Watch the papers and you'll see a sharp increase in suicides!!
This is not a prediction.... it is truth!..
taoprophet420 @ Feb 26th 2008 7:05AM
I think its a given we will see newmacbookpros. I am curious what the iflip listing is, would be nice to be a tablet. I would like to see a complete refrsh of the macbook, i am tired of the same white thick case.

Apple Air. Like real air, only twice the price and plenty of fancy packaging.
Aprime @ Feb 26th 2008 7:08AM
It's already for sale in Japan.
Arno @ Feb 26th 2008 7:06AM
New MBPs! Finally!
I've been waiting since September :D
Andre Lopes @ Feb 26th 2008 7:08AM
refresh resfresh refresh.......
Ben Wedge @ Feb 26th 2008 7:10AM
It took a little while for that to show up. Buying a new MBP this afternoon? I hope so. This sillyness has been going on too long. Thank god my old computer isn't quite dead yet.
root.alt @ Feb 26th 2008 7:13AM
Yeah, im waiting at least a month AFTER the MBP's come out before I even think about buying one.
Alex @ Feb 26th 2008 7:29AM
When I bought my MBP it had some weird video problem, genuis hooked me right up with corporate, they asked if they could keep that one rather than repair it to send back to the engineers in the valley, gave me a new one and all this free shit, it rocked. :-D
Don Rober @ Feb 26th 2008 7:17AM
These Apple marketing guys are good. Supposedly today is also the big day for Lenovo's ThinkPad X300 aka the MBA killer. So, What if the MacBook Pro gives you 13" or 15" of thin, drive, ports+connectivity glory? Wouldn't that steal the show today with not one, but two or three of those laptops? Must admit, nobody puts a show like Apple.
eggothewaffle @ Feb 26th 2008 7:19AM
Also must admit, nobody speculates as wildly and feverently as Cupertinites ;)
Erik @ Feb 26th 2008 7:43AM
Yeah, there's just one problem with your little comment (aside from the obvious).
The X300 is not a "MBA killer." It's a thin and light laptop for the working (wo)man who wants to be as productive as possible without lugging around an 18.4" laptop (I'm looking at you, Acer).
It was almost completely finished before Jobs took the stage with the Air.
nicolas @ Feb 26th 2008 7:18AM
german store is off as well.. seems like a bigger one.. YEAH!
Twitchy @ Feb 26th 2008 8:15AM
Ditto for the New Zealand store. Whatever it is, it'll be a global release. Not like the price cuts on the shuffle (we are still being charged $104USD - and they wonder why it won't sell).
nicolas @ Feb 26th 2008 8:20AM
hehe :D kinda strange, our world is so small.. obiously there are at least two people sitting in front of their computers, one from germany, one from the other side of the globe, in NZ, 12 hours between us and all we gotta do is chatting about the apple store :D
LordFarkward @ Feb 26th 2008 7:18AM
even the hong kong store is down this time... maybe this time's for real
am kind of glad that i added some call options on friday
Barton @ Feb 26th 2008 8:32AM
OMG! So I'm not the only Hong Konger that is capable of reading Engadget. =)
Shannin @ Feb 26th 2008 7:19AM
not just fanboys will be happy
normal people who want a good laptop that can run the best or both worlds (or all three if needed) will be happy too
AutoTom @ Feb 26th 2008 7:33AM
ahh, i see a new breed of covert fanboy emerging.
