Samsung's 82-inch SyncMaster 820DXn sports a built-in computer
There's displays made for digital signage, and then there's Samsung's SyncMaster 820DXn. Put simply, there's no commercial screen we'd rather have sitting in our living room, and while we doubt many would go for it, the specs here are pretty impressive. Outside of the expansive 82-inch 1,920 x 1,080 resolution S-PVA panel, you'll find 178-degree viewing angles, a 5,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, "ultra-high" brightness levels, eight-millisecond response time and the firm's own DNIe PRO image enhancement technology. It also includes built-in fans for extended usage along with an integrated PC consisting of an 1.8GHz Athlon64 X2 3400+ CPU, 4GB of flash storage, 512MB of DDR2 RAM, an ATI graphics set and Windows XP to boot. Granted, this thing was designed with luring customers in mind, and given the lofty $76,999 price tag, we don't expect it to do much else.

Cool, I'll just go pick it up in my Aston Martin
Down @ Feb 27th 2008 1:01PM
Which won't have enough space to fit the box the tv would be inside, so what's your point? huh?
phanbouy @ Feb 27th 2008 1:04PM
the irony of overpriced-ness?
Zach @ Feb 27th 2008 3:28PM
mhm.. that mans at an airport.
anyways, i called this out a couple of weeks ago, saying that they should make a tv with a small computer inside (albeit, i didn't say price it at over QUITE a lot of peoples yearly salary [or two for that matter].)
Kiwi616 @ Feb 27th 2008 12:56PM
So the TV is about 75,000 and the PC is 1,999?
Let's try to make these HDTVs cheaper rather then adding features that no one will need YET!
Zach @ Feb 27th 2008 3:30PM
more like the tv is 76750 and the computer is 249 (with about 100 of that 249 going towards xp)
O_o i smell ripoff.
imacmatt09 @ Feb 27th 2008 12:59PM
"to boot" is getting annoying...
StrangeBum @ Feb 27th 2008 1:38PM
But..but...what if they were literally meaning Windows XP to boot up on the computer...see, see. They don't mean it as in the hip term, more of just a generalization ;)
imacmatt09 @ Feb 27th 2008 2:11PM
nope he does it every time he lists specs.
Paul In SF @ Feb 27th 2008 1:00PM
How about one of these for the next Engadget giveaway?
Nathan @ Feb 27th 2008 1:03PM
Wow, 5,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. That's absolutely abysmal. Just another shitty LCD, except this one's bigger and more useless than the rest.
Beau @ Feb 27th 2008 1:21PM
My gawd, for $77k I'd expect something better than an 'integrated' bargain basement PC.
makishima @ Feb 27th 2008 1:22PM
Great! I've got a giant TV that looks like ass and its got some crummy built in computer from 3 years ago! And all for ONLY $70,000 more than it would cost me to get an amazing tv and build my own HTPC? Who wouldn't want this?
CraigJ @ Feb 27th 2008 1:27PM
At least it runs XP and not Vista.
phanbouy @ Feb 27th 2008 2:23PM
Hey, at least half a gig makes it just barely Vista Capable eh?
Dan Davis @ Feb 27th 2008 2:03PM
Sure, I'll just pair it with my $17000 Blu-Ray player!

tamoghno @ Feb 27th 2008 2:39PM
the ultimate 24" iMac killer !
oh wait, help me decide which is more overpriced !
redlukas @ Feb 27th 2008 3:15PM
what woud you all say if the built in computer was hi-spec but the price over 100k? you'd simply joke about playing domm and crysis at high. i dont need the thing, but what about the aston martin drivers whit no idea of tech whatsoever?
j3oomerang @ Feb 27th 2008 11:18PM
i dont get it. AFter reading the first sentence i thought we'd be talking about 2650x1600 or 4k resolution. But $76,000? Ill stick with my sammy 1080p 71" and my "built in" Q6600 and 8800gt. Well its not built in but hell i got a pretty good looking media room style case thats not going anywhere without the TV. My setup is 6k, thinking about getting some pro calibration done, which i hear is worth it.
asphixiated @ Feb 28th 2008 4:20AM
tell us more about your setup!
j3oomerang @ Feb 28th 2008 4:57AM
not sure if youre being sarcastic, but here are some pictures. The whole thread is about the setup (well mainly the computer but the final result is at the bottom).

For everyone posting about price and HDTV stuff that is not what this is for. The mini pc inside is for Digital Signage, not running doom or watching South Park...
Check out Samsung's signage page for a better idea of what I mean:
http://pages.samsung.com/us/magicnet/index.html
Basically this entire series (40", 46", 57", 70" and now 82") are plug and play networked signs that you can upload content and schedules to from any network connected pc. The DxN's actually offer a WAN connectivity via a web portal so you can put goofy pictures of your boss up in the lobby from your iphone on a beach. For the customers that are looking to have this true turnkey solution the price tag is really not bad at all, considering other vendors solutions require you to buy servers, expensive software, media players and the screen itself.
Just don’t plan on putting one of these into your living room anytime soon.. The consumer market just isn't mature enough yet to drive the prices down of the 60"+ LCD's.
milton359 @ Jun 4th 2008 1:02PM
in the future can you just put the price in the first line so I can stop reading and building up a dream that will be crushed a minute later?
