Right at the buzzer, Apple shipped us a Time Capsule -- and just like we remember, it's a bit bigger than you'd expect. We're about to set it up in our WiFi torture chamber of an apartment building, we'll let you know how it goes -- unboxing in the gallery below.
It's the Apple Mind Link(TM) that keeps you buying Apple products, no matter how minor the revision of the product is. The sleek form factor makes it easy to keep under your pillow, so that your iDreams can be in HD* so you can never forget that Apple products are not only for your every day use, but for your night-time usages as well.
* HD is 480i upscaled to 720p. Not all iDream content will be HD content. Some artifacting may occur on brain types iBrainX 10.3 or below. Do not upgrade without consulting your iDoc first. Please dream responsibly.
So I can hook up a USB hard drive to the Time Capsule and access it from any machine on the network... is it possible to boot from that drive too? Google doesn't have much to say about Network Startup other than that Mac OS X Server is probably required, but I wonder if there's another way to make it happen. Now that Time Capsule's out, has anyone else tried anything like this?
I just bought an Airport Extreme last week, and was pretty pissed to find that apple still hasn't enabled time machine on airdisk. I called apple tech support and asked flat out if they will ever enable time machine with airdisk via an osx update or airport extreme firmware update, and the tech told me 'no, we're not working on anything like that, you'll have to buy a time capsule for that to work properly.'
And yes, I know iTimemachine or the terminal hack blah blah blah but I've had data loss problems with that as have the majority of posters in every forum i've looked in. REALLY REALLY WEAK.
So congrats on your marketing scheme apple, i'll return my airport extreme and buy a time machine... $120 extra for a 500GB hard drive in my router is a decent price to pay for freeing up the space/usb port.. but i'm still pissed.
I'd like to see someone demo a hard drive replacement for one of those Time Capsules. What if you decided to replace the existing hard drive in one of these things, sometime after you purchased it? (Say, you bought a TC with a 500 GB HD and you decided 6-12 months later to buy a 750 GB HD and you want to install it in the unit.)
I hope someone gives this a try in the future as this product gains greater presence in the marketplace.
I'm not an Apple guy nor do I ever read up on EngadgetApple, but will this peripheral work in a Windows-based network? i mean, if it's just a HDD/fileserver, i can't see why it wouldn't.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
The old Apple Airport Extreme base station.

KIDDING! HA! JOKES! FUNNY!
I also think its shitty to purchase an iPod and not be able charge it in a wall outlet out of the box. But hey, thats just me.
I think you're off topic. That's just me though.
Yay! Another piece of hardware Apple won't gave a crap about.
How loud is it? I'm worried about having a 'server grade' drive in my living room.
No power brick? That's nice. How about some size comparison photos with the current Airport Extreme Base Station?
