Sony, we know you're trying hard, which is why we think it must sting all the worse when you wake up to sales figures like this. According to a report, the Wii outsold PS3s in Japan 4-to-1 in the month of February, and its games dominated bestseller lists. What does that look like in cold, hard numbers? Nintendo moved 331,627 consoles over the month, while Sony only managed 89,131 units in the same time. But wait, there's more: in January, the ratio was 3-to-1, which means that Nintendo's lead seems to be growing as the year moves forward. Still, Sony
could have it worse, the Xbox 360 only scraped up a paltry 14,079 Xbox 360 sales in that same span of time.
WOW.. So Engadget is TRULY BIAS TOWARDS SONY. The cats outta the bag. -1x100 for that "FAIL" removal, Engadget. I hope other gaming sites catch wind of your move and shouts it to the 4 corners of the world.. ENGADGET IS PRO-SONY!!
the only price drop seen from sony over the ps3 came when it dropped support for ps2 games over here in australia. PPl got happy about this price drop, BUT the price hasnt really dropped, considering that PS2 functionality and hardware has been removed from ps3 40GB PAL models. They need to srsly find away to making blu ray drives more cheaper cos that is what the major cost of the ps3 is going to. And I must say the blu ray drive seems sluggish on the ps3, I know u fanboys will be down my neck right now. But I think the ps3 needs to upgrade is manufacture to 45nm and have a tad faster blu ray drive with 1.1 profile support. Then maybe the current prices maybe be well justified.
I'm really starting to think I'm the only person alive who really likes the news and weather features on the Wii.
Then again, I always thought it was fun to spin real-life globes and see where they stopped, too...
If consumers are anything like my mate, they are waiting for one of the big exclusives coming to PS3 this year before buying a PS3 (my mate is waiting on Tekken 6 ftr).
Though that does not change the fact that wii has been a strong seller...
Here is what is simple. A lot more people can affored to pay 250 and purchase a tone of games for a grand total of 600 bucks versus paying 600 and then purchasing games. Thats one.
Secondly, adults and kids alike are playing the games that come with it. Its not a sit down and learn codes, its a get up and play.
Everyone from seniors, Adults, young adults and children of cognitive age are using the wii sports.
My parents don't even speak english, but they learned to play buy doing. This is why the Wii is outselling the PS3. If the PS3 wants to compete, they have to realize, that people with simple money, want to play simple competitive games. No gamers language, just play. I would make sense that FAMILIES want to use the console and not just individuals.
This is who Nintendo is catering to and winning. You can bring as many war games as you want, but if your mom wants to bat against you in a game, which console are you going to choose. I already bought 2 Wii's and am trying to purchase a 3rd, but they are selling like hot cakes. I'm sorry Sony, but you guys are losing, not because your console isn't good, but because you are catering to a certain demographic.
That Demographic has parents and little brothers and sisters that want to play!!
I remember when I was sick as a kid and at Children's Hospital. They had this rolling gaming cart (this was back in 1996 or something, kind of ahead of it's time). Anyway I remember that we were playing Mario Kart on the snes, and my mom had never touched a gaming machine before, and in a few minutes she was beating me in lap time.
It's very unlikely that she would want to or could wrap her head around COD4 or Halo 3 (lol I remember her comment about all the buttons and such when she first say my Xbox controller), but at the same time I would never buy Wii as I don't think any of the games would interest her (and I know none of them would interest me). I'll be glad when someday people will be able to play an immersive, HD-game without having crazy dexterity and using lots of buttons. The Wii is the closest thing we have yet, but I still find it too simple. I'll get my mum into PSN/XBLA games for now =).
It will be interesting to see how many copies of the MGS4 console bundle will sell. I doubt it will overthrow the Wii but I think it will make it a record quarter.
So, when Sony is winning, it's because they're the best.
When Nintendo is winning, it's cause Sony isn't really competing for the same market....right
There's also something called OUTSIDE. Maybe gamers could try that for a change...
If the Wii sits and collects dust, you must not have people coming over.
The Wii is a family/friends console. I have had so many people come over and have a absolute ball playing on the Wii. People that have never played games.
It takes them no time at all to figure it out. They love it.
I have a fairly powerful PC, I don't need a 360 or PS3. Most people have a PC these days. I would bet a lot of them are like me and would rather play a FPS with a mouse not a controller.
